Trick or Treats!
MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Yes, at the Spokane Club this year, it is “treats” for its members between now and the end of the year, not just for Halloween. Be on the watch for improvements coming to the pool, in childcare, for the meeting areas, and in the locker rooms. It takes time to complete plans, request bids, and begin work so it may be more like a holiday gift than a Halloween treat when you start to see the changes The Spokane Club Board has authorized the General Manager and staff to begin the improvements and we are sure that you will see the value of the improvements to the member experience as they happen Please give your feedback to a staff member or Board Trustee when you see the results of the changes
Another “treat” that happens quicker and is more readily enjoyed is one of the activities and events that the Spokane Club offers to its members. There are the Pickleball League, Parent Night Out, Shrimp and Rib Prime Night, the Hiking Club, Cellar Dwellers Wine Tasting, New Member Orientation, and Cutter Steak Night to name a few on the current calendar There is also the very popular Thanksgiving dining event that will be coming in November so
be prepared to sign up early for your preferred dining time Be sure to check your email regularly for the calendar updates to make the most of your Spokane Club membership
A third “treat” that we have as members of the Spokane Club is the connection to the Kemper Club Collection of private clubs. We have club reciprocity with award-winning Kemper golf courses, resorts, and tournament venues. Preferred rates, guest allowances, and preferential access at destination facilities are benefits that we have because we are members of the Spokane Club Contact our General Manager, Molly Sandhu, at generalmanager@spokaneclub org to set up a visit to a reciprocal club, and visit Kemperclub com/kempercollection to see a list of locations
Have a great Fall season and be sure to maximize your time in all the activities for you and your family at the Spokane Club!

Meet Sean Bainbridge, Personal Trainer at the Club!
"I was born in Florida and played multiple sports throughout my entire childhood, with my favorite being football After finishing high school, I debated between playing football at the local community college and joining the military In the end, I chose to join the United States Marine Corps While attending university, I volunteered to work with an organization that did training clinics with disabled veterans and another that did personal and group training for ASD students in college. Volunteering with both organizations was a huge learning experience and I realized how big of an impact fitness could leave on a person ’ s life. I am looking forward to helping fitness make an impact in your life.”

Stories o Superna at the C
Anastasiya Mayerchuk MAs Halloween approaches, it's now the perfect time to share some spine-tingling tales of paranormal encounters within the historic halls of the Spokane Club After all, our beloved Clubhouse has been standing on the corner of Monroe and Riverside since 1910 Over the years, members, guests, and staff have told eerie stories of inexplicable phenomena that have left us marveling
One such encounter comes from a recent guest at the Spokane Club Inn, an active duty member of the Air Force, who reported hearing ghostly whistling echoing through the quiet hallways of the third floor, though no soul was in sight. Another guest staying in room 310 woke up to a startling occurrence. Their alarm, which had been turned off, mysteriously blared to life at 4 am
Even Chris Barry, our Athletic Director, has his own tale to tell During a stay on the second floor with his young children, his son claimed to hear footsteps running up and down the halls, yet every time they opened the door, the sound
would inexplicably cease. Peering through the peephole, they found nothing but an empty corridor
But perhaps the most frequently encountered ghost is a playful spirit affectionately referred to as "Henry " Numerous members and guests have spotted a young boy in their hotel rooms, with room 215 being his favorite haunt One guest calmly phoned the front desk and explained how Henry would inch closer to her every time she rolled in her bed Although she sensed that he meant no harm, she kindly requested a room change nonetheless. There have even been notes passed along to the front desk from children staying at the hotel, indicating conversations with Henry, who apparently did not appreciate guests in his space but said they thought the hotel room was nice. Staff have heard his gleeful giggles and the pitter-patter of his feet echoing even across the skywalk connecting the Clubhouse to the Athletic Building
Other presences can be felt in other areas of the Club as well In the bride getting ready room, an entity of a bride known as "Helen" is said to play pranks whenever her mirror is moved
In the Georgian entryway mirror, a spectral chef has been spotted hurrying towards the kitchen, dressed in full chef's attire. An 8-year-old in the bathroom near the Georgian claimed to have seen a young woman in a prom dress in the bathroom mirror, only for her to vanish when she turned around, leaving the child understandably startled
In the Georgian ballroom itself, a photographer capturing pre-wedding shots found a mysterious addition to his photos A young girl in white was peering through a side door window, though no one else was present in the ballroom at the time.
Down in the basement, specifically in the employee breakroom, the echoes of bygone eras seem to linger. When empty and silent, whispers of music and conversations from the Club's prohibition-era past can sometimes be heard Read ‘Post-War Prosperity’ on page 38
In the childcare room, toys have a mind of their own, springing to life and playing music and sounds when only staff are present Employees often exchange words with the unseen mischief-maker, scolding them for frightening them One evening, Tracey, the Childcare and Family Events Manager, witnessed a particularly eerie event. While alone at her desk, she heard a loud bang. Investigating further, she found a toy train bridge had been flung several feet from its container, which quickly turned her into a believer in ghosts.
In the Cutter Room, staff have reported swinging doors moving on their own, lights flickering, and the door to the red wine storage room shutting without anyone there Our Hotel Manager, Brandy, even experienced doors being wrenched from her hands violently in an employee area when she was giving a tour, only to close gently afterward
The paranormal presence extends to the 1910
Restaurant and Lounge as well. Brandy, on one occasion, had a strange feeling in the kitchen while making coffee early in the morning. She left the room and returned to find the ice machine door wide open without any logical explanation or other staff in the restaurant
Ann Marie, Sport Shop Associate, recounted her own eerie experience in the lounge She was opening up the restaurant and was the only one in the area The patio door, usually locked and secured, swung wide open when she left the room momentarily While investigating, she spotted an unusual fluttering in the air by the patio.
In the early morning hours, while setting up breakfast, Ann Marie was startled when her coworker claimed to have heard a loud noise. When she returned to the lounge, tables and chairs had been scattered inexplicably, ruining the tables she had already set Ann Marie also recalled another coworker hearing voices when she was alone in the area, despite Ann Marie hearing nothing herself
The Spokane Club has indeed earned its reputation as a place where history and mystery intersect If you would like to see the location of some of the encounters above, please join us for a Haunted Tour led by our very own General Manager Molly Sandhu on October 21st. Remember, the past often leaves a mark, and here at the Spokane Club, it seems that mark includes the echoes of those who once walked these halls in life or perhaps, in the afterlife.
