Greetings Fellow Spokane Club Members!
Lesley Gangelhoff Board Chair
The winter holidays are a magical time at the Spokane Club. Growing up, Thanksgiving at the Club kicked off my family’s holiday traditions. There is something really special about celebrating the holidays with family and friends in the historic Kirkland Cutter clubhouse. This year, my husband and I look forward to creating new traditions and memories with our daughter at the Nutcracker Tea There are many other opportunities to connect with friends and family this holiday season, from Tom and Jerry’s in the Library to Ugly Sweater Dodgeball There is something for everyone at the Spokane Club!
Outside of our Club community, the Spokane Club team has been busy making connections in the Spokane community Our culinary team recently attended Epicurean Delight, a fundraising gala benefiting The Blood Center Foundation of the Inland Northwest and Vitalant. Chef Pete Wilcox and his team showcased the
Club’s culinary talent with scalloped sweet potatoes with smoked gouda and candied bacon They received wonderful feedback from guests and judges alike The event provided an excellent platform to reach potential members and to participate in a great community event
Meanwhile, the Board has focused its attention internally to identify the next significant capital improvement projects. We look forward to sharing more soon.
Thank you for your continued support of our Spokane Club community I hope you find a Club event to attend this season that will make your own holidays merry and bright
To the Membership
Derek Intinarelli General Manager
Hello and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
We hope you will be celebrating with us here at the Spokane Club, but no matter where, we wish you and yours the happiest of holidays and times.
Since my arrival in late September, I have been busy getting up to speed here at the Club It has been great being home, after twenty-plus years away, and wonderful to be able to see my three daughters frequently, my parents, and my extended family as well That and catching up with old friends in and around the PNW too I am so happy to be home and here at the Spokane Club I would like to thank the Search Committee and Board of Trustees for bringing me to the Club and look forward to doing great things now, and in the future as well.
The Spokane Club administration plus staff and I have been working on a multitude of things over the last seven weeks. Hopefully, you will see these improvements and changes as we make progress The list of things to do is long, but membership services, 1910 Restaurant and Lounge, Riverside Deli, lobby, hotel, and overall cleanliness are all paramount in getting out of the gates We will be conducting an in-depth member survey in early 2025 and look forward
to hearing from you via your participation in this. We have also embarked on a number of capital projects, repairs, and improvements. The Library windows and framing have been repaired. The Skywalk glass window is scheduled for replacement We are beginning on the front entryway façade update on the main building There will be new carpeting in several areas, and painting and ancillary repairs are all in the works We are looking forward to all these upgrades and know they will be enjoyed by all Thank you for your support via our capital funding initiatives Your patience and understanding as we work on all these projects is very much appreciated
Again, Happy Holidays and I look forward to seeing you soon here at the Club!

Water, Life, and Community
Cherese McCoy Aquatics Manager
Water, we must have it to stay alive, as it’s the essential ingredient for life! Our body is made up of around 70% water, and without it, we would certainly wither away Although we love to drink it, most of us love to work-out and play in the stuff as well. So, if you haven’t ventured to the pool in a while, and want to learn more, please come down and introduce yourself and see who we are and what we have to offer. However, if you are ready to jump in, Spokane Club Aquatics can get you healthy inside and out Just grab a bottle and head on down Many of us have deep roots here in Aquatics and have this connection from either playing as kids at the pool, growing up through open swimming, youth programs, swimming lessons and of course, the opportunity to competitively swim on a team We branch out to do many other water recreations in our lifetime, but water confidence starts here with us! We have such a great
aquatics community here at the Spokane Club and I am so happy to be a part of it Our aquatics staff are truly the best instructors, coaches, and Lifeguards and I am grateful to be working side by side with each of them. Our members make the pool fun and are the reason why we are here! The Masters swim team wakes the pool up every weekday at the crack of dawn with their steadfast leader, Rob. He represents our Club very well at various swim meets in the community and is ready to assist you with furthering your skill set and becoming the best swimmer, you can be If that doesn’t entice you, how about joining “The Pond Scum” as they like to call themselves They are our largest group fitness class in the club, reaching numbers nearing 30! Instructors Patricia and Janel know how to mix things up to keep this posse coming back for more You will find this tight-knit group going out for breakfast together, holding potlucks at lake cabins, and polar plunging in the dead of winter With so
many activities at the pool, you’ll run into some characters as well. You may swim into our faithful, famous, and friendly aqua jogging queen, she is one of the fittest women around If you need to aqua jog for injury recovery or for a great workout, she would be a good person to team up with as her kind spirit will brighten your day You may also meet our best storyteller; you’ll notice him turning out the lights over in lane 4 If you want a dose of reality and some fun comical banter, look for the guy who consistently dives in at the halfway mark to the deep end he’s a hoot! If you really want to get your groove on, look for “The Lunchtime Quartet.” They tend to get things rocking and rolling, with their strength, speed, and fine-tuned skill. You’ll notice the waves of energy that flow through the pool at this hour, generated by age group and college swimming that have linked these individuals together Very awe-inspiring to
watch! Our triathletes come to perfect their stroke and build endurance; a few members come to tread water or snorkel their way through a workout It is these everyday swimmers that are the glue that holds us all together Towards the end of the day and on weekends, it’s all about our youngest swimmers! You’ll hear the littles in lessons and our novice and age group swimmers humming along as they are the heartbeat of our community, the new and future roots We strive to give them lifesaving skills and tools to take with them on their journeys through life I’d like to say I’m the luckiest lady at the Club, to be touched daily by life’s essential ingredient, and a whole lot of glue.
Please contact Aquatics Manager, Cherese McCoy with any questions at (509) 838-8511 x512 or cheresemccoy@spokaneclub.org.
The Holistic Approach of Pilates
Monica Moench Personal Trainer
The fitness world is constantly changing, that is a big reason I have such a passion for it. There is always more to learn! Science is always evolving meaning new exercise techniques and modalities will result Pilates has been a form of fitness that has been on my radar and I've taken the first step to learn more about this 20th century exercise by getting a certificate (16 hours of hands-on classes) to teach Pilates on the reformer I had the pleasure of learning from a second-generation Pilates instructor who learned from Romana Kryzanowska herself! Pilates is a low-impact exercise method that focuses on strengthening muscles while improving postural alignment, flexibility, and overall body awareness. Pilates combines
controlled movements with deep breathing techniques to target the deep core muscles, although it also engages other muscle groups. Pilates exercises can be performed on a mat or with specialized equipment, such as the reformer, which uses springs for resistance It’s emphasis on mindful movement and precision makes it suitable for individuals of all fitness levels, from beginners to athletes, and is often used for rehabilitation or injury prevention I have seen multiple individuals with scoliosis benefit greatly from pilates Through regular practice, Pilates helps improve balance, coordination, and muscle tone! Looking to get into pilates? Stay tuned for workshops and personal sessions available soon!

The evolution from a gentlemen’s club to a multi-faceted gathering spot for families, foodies, and fitness fans didn’t occur easily or overnight But the seed of one of those changes was clearly planted in the 120 pages of Cutter’s original blueprints and the finished building Prior to the Riverside and Monroe location, women were only allowed in the club once a year for a special occasion. In the design of the new building, Cutter envisioned the front of the clubhouse with two entrances on Riverside, one to welcome men and the other to welcome women.
The primary entrance, still in use today, had an air of stately distinction and elegance This was the men ’ s entrance and generations of townsmen, visiting dignitaries and performers have climbed the entry stairs
From Mark Twain to George Plimpton, Teddy Roosevelt to George H Bush, Harry Truman to Bill Clinton, and Bing Crosby to Lorne Greene, the club has hosted lectures, fundraisers,
meetings, and parties for an incredibly diverse group of people Many of them have stayed at the club’s hotel, which has been part of the club’s services
