Broseley
F
Award-winning construction company specialising in the building and refurbishment of residential and listed properties
ounded in 1973, Broseley is a unique family-run business, managing to combine full in-house resources, while remaining small enough to take a hands-on and responsive approach. Employing over 65 people, the Broseley team includes engineers, quantity surveyors, researchers, project managers, master builders, technicians and cabinet makers. Perhaps one of the best-known small construction companies, it has worked on a wide range of properties for private clients in central London – both period and modern – and combines the latest technology with traditional methods. Much of its work comes through client recommendation, architects and interior designers, for whom Broseley is often their first choice. ‘Close collaboration and the long-term trust we have in our suppliers and workforce is the foundation of our success,’ says John Thursfield, Managing Director. ‘We all have the same goal: to provide the very best in terms of quality, materials,
craftsmanship and service.’ Broseley’s secret? The company does not take on more than it can handle, taking great pride in the workmanship, reliability and relationships it has with its teams, suppliers and clients. Typically, it has eight to ten projects on at any one time, plus a waiting list. At the properties Broseley has worked on, they have installed lofts, basement rooms, lifts, wine cellars, underground garaging, pools, roof gardens and steel and glass structures – anything that a city dweller can imagine to add to and enhance their residence. Ongoing ‘after care’ is an integral part of the service. Broseley has done some extraordinary work over the past few years, ranging from a fourbedroom townhouse in Mayfair, a significant family home covering some 7,000 sq/ft in Belgravia, a roof top apartment in Knightsbridge and a small Chelsea cottage. And, of course, many of its clients are well known in their fields but don’t bother asking – the firm will not be drawn on names!

Award-winning drawing room
‘Because we know these areas so well, we are often invited to participate while the drawings are still on the board,’ says John Thursfield. ‘We know so many of the idiosyncrasies of the properties and the planning regulations, so we’re able to make a valuable contribution from the very beginning.’ Splashed across these pages are photos from a recent Broseley project in Kensington. A three-bedroom family home, it underwent a complete refurbishment with structural reconfiguring to achieve a coherent lateral space. The apartment includes full home automation plus a multi-media room, with specialist soundproofing, a spa area and staff accommodation. Exquisite
materials have been incorporated, including figured Japanese wood, routed metal and hand-worked chiselled mirrors sealed with gold leaf. Internal doors and windows have been specially designed with bespoke stained glass. The property was designed by Casa Forma, an international practice based in London. Founded by Faiza Seth, its teams of architects and interior designers provide a comprehensive bespoke service for luxury residential, corporate and leisure properties. Since its inception in 2007 it has won over ten awards, including the ID&A Award for this property in 2015 – a winning collaboration for Broseley.
