White is the new Black
White is having a moment, and we couldn’t be more excited! In the last 12 months, we have seen a strong movement towards white as the preferred colour palette for lighting. It speaks to the idea that lighting needs to be a calm element, blend in seamlessly, and provide a beautiful, muted accent or ambient glow at night.

White is fresh and clean and works beautifully with the 2022 aesthetic. It is often combined with brass or wood or even white as a relief from a few years ago when black fittings and cord were popular. Matte opal white glass is also being massively appreciated, just as it was at the turn of the last century and into the 20s and 30s. Opal glass can be used to create stunning diffused, broad spread light that is highly functional and beautiful. It hides the bulb and diminishes glare, letting you use a very high wattage LED that gives plenty of function but none of the downsides of looking straight at the bulb.

Entranceways and large living spaces need this grounding influence, and if you have the space, why not flaunt it! The trend of three smaller pendants over the kitchen island is giving way to bigger, more oversized pendants that are deeper or wider. These hover and add drama. A creative way to create this effect with smaller pendants is to cluster, but nothing works better than one or two big pieces. Often, the downside of a singular oversized pendants with one bulb is that you won’t get the function you need, but clever use of LED recessed or spots and layering light can make this a reality.

With the size of the average Kiwi home growing, magnificent areas with high studs are becoming more common, creating a desire for large space fillers. A statement pendant will delineate an area, provide a focal point and exude warmth.

Going straight with In homes where the dining table and kitchen island are in close proximity, pendant lighting over both can look like you are being attacked by pendants (what a way to go!). We recommend selecting one area only for pendant lighting, and often it is the dining room that gets all the decorative attention. The kitchen island still needs to be grounded by something simple and sleek that has LED lighting power, and that’s where the Lineal LED suspension comes in. With clean lines and a sleek, timeless quality, the Lineal LED suspension lamp enhances any space with minimum fuss. Beautifully crafted in Wellington and powder coated to any Dulux colour, they can also be a statement all by themselves. They also have that lovely utilitarian feel, they are what they do, and sometimes that’s all you need.

Ra an,
but not as we know it Generally, you are either a Rattan kind of a person or not; it has always divided us. It is either famously bohemian or coastal, but the new trend is much more formed, less lacy or patterned. Mr Ralph are about to launch a new Rattan range, and the feeling is more New Chalet-French feel or structured yet soft Mid-century. This new movement means they work everywhere, giving spaces a softness and the natural element we all crave. They are light in weight and can easily be upsized to fill a void, although you may need to gently tap the shade with a broom handle to dislodge any dust now and then! Focussing more on sustainability and green living, we are seeing a real movement towards Natural/ Organic materials like clay and wood alongside the rattan. Texture and warmth are huge right now, and these natural materials bring a casual yet contemporary vibe to your space. They work across all types of homes - think a super minimalist home with one handmade pendant over a dining table or an eclectic abode with a different colour and style of pendant or wall light in each room.
