The right time for an upgrade
Maximizing Output Volume and Production Efficiencies Many shops both big and small are now realizing both increased productivity and profits by investing in a new roll-to-roll printer. Today’s printers are faster, more reliable, more economical and they possess an array of options that didn’t exist when the digital print revolution began some 15 years ago. Increase profits today
If one or more of the statements below describe you, then congratulations you are a candidate for increased profits today. • I need to babysit my printer to ensure quality. • My equipment lease is coming to an end. • I have been sourcing more projects lately. • Printer service is needed frequently. • My printer ink costs more than $.26 per square foot. • The speed or quality of my work is not up to today’s print standards. • My printer runs at least six hours per day. • I am concerned about energy-efficiency and/or being environmentally-friendly Where many shops fail: they wait too long. Often times, the delay is due to hope of landing that “perfect customer,” but if you lack the production capability it will only handicap you from getting the customers you need. Procrastination and fear of change also keep shops waiting too long because they don’t fully understand the benefits that increased productivity will do for their business.
Ink savings can justify an upgrade
A good starting point when considering a printer upgrade is to factor in the monthly ink costs. For example, if you could save $.08 - $.10 per square foot on ink and you ran as little as three rolls per week, you could realize a savings of $700 - $800 per month in ink costs. If you can justify an upgrade based on your volume and a lower cost per square foot, it is definitely the time for you. When you also figure in faster through-put, increased quality and lower cost of production without breaking the bank, it is a no-brainer.
Speed = Productivity = Profitability
In today’s business environment, there are many downward pressures for items like banners. A printer upgrade can provide a platform to either compete or help gain more margin from this segment. This is where increasing your speed can affect your business. For example, if you are producing jobs at 120 square feet per hour, but an upgrade allowed you to produce quality work at a minimum of 350 square feet per hour you could be at least three times more profitable or you could eliminate over time. This example is considering all things are equal including banner material and ink costs. Furthermore, an increase in volume can also help drive down your price on material. The expansion of your capabilities will allow you to take on larger jobs and be profitable in more ways. The longer you wait for that “perfect customer,” the longer you lose out on increased productivity and profits. Other factors to consider in your printer choice include: new time-saving technologies that can reduce labor costs or improve efficiencies, durability, reliability, overall life of the printer, service expectations, output speed, quality of work, type of work you produce.
