DESMOND LEE Minister for Social and Family Development & Second Minister for National Development, Singapore

My warmest congratulations to the winners of the Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards! We enjoy lush and beautiful greenery in our City in a Garden. This would not be possible if not for the hard work by our friends, partners and colleagues in the landscape sector. We are transforming our Built Environment cluster to create good jobs for Singaporeans, grow strong firms with capabilities, and strengthen our overall economic potential. The landscape sector, as part of the larger Built Environment cluster, is no exception. Our landscape sector will need to rise to the next level, and become high-tech, high-value, and resource-efficient. Landscape architects play an important role in this transformation journey. They work across the various sectors within the Built Environment to envelop our urban spaces with green and blue resources. They also orchestrate the upstream design and downstream implementation skilfully, while taking into consideration downstream maintenance. It is inspiring to see how our local landscape firms have been setting the benchmark and promoting best practices. The submissions to the Awards show the maturity of the landscape architecture practice which goes beyond aesthetics. They emphasise the principles of ecological performance, sustainable design, and user-nature interface. The profession has evolved and grown beyond its roots in landscape design and environmental assessments to now include biophilic design, master planning, and urban design.

KENNETH ER Chief Executive Officer National Parks Board, Singapore

As we mark 200 years of the founding of modern Singapore, we reflect on the transformation from a trading port to a metropolis. Despite urbanisation, Singapore remains a city filled with lush greenery and rich biodiversity. This is the result of more than 50 years of concerted effort in greening Singapore. The landscape industry, including landscape architects, have contributed immensely to the protection, conservation and enhancement of our natural heritage. With the recent launch of the Landscape Sector Transformation Plan on 4 May 2019, we will strengthen our vision as a Biophilic City in a Garden. Landscape architects will be integral in connecting people with nature through biophilic design techniques allowing us to create a highly liveable environment. Over the past few years, NParks have been working closely with landscape architects to restore native habitats and curate natural features within a park setting. This is evident in projects like the Lakeside Gardens as part of Jurong Lake Gardens, and the Singapore Botanic Gardens’ Learning Forest. To enable all segments of the community to experience the benefits of nature, we have also applied evidence-based design in therapeutic gardens and nature play gardens programmes. We are encouraged to see how landscape architects are enhancing their skills through the Continual Professional Development and Accreditation programmes to keep up with the evolving science and art of landscape architecture. We extend our congratulations to all the award winners and our heartfelt appreciation to all landscape architects to making Singapore a more liveable and enduring home for all.

I have every confidence that our home grown landscape architects will continue to excel and lead the charge in enhancing Singapore’s greenery, in line with our collective vision of being a City in a Garden.

RONNIE TAN President Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects, Singapore

This SIngapore Landscape Architecture Awards 2019, being the 12th edition now, continues to set the benchmarks for landscape architecture practice in Singapore.

ABOUT SILA

The awards recognises and give due credits for the invaluable role the profession play in creating the biophilic City in a Garden. The world is ever changing. More so in the region and in Singapore. Recent announced plans of development in SG Southern Waterfront, climate change strategies and the shift of Indonesia’s capital to Kalimantan, present possible dawning of new opportunities for our landscape architects to contribute and serve. While we are good at what we do, we will have to increase our repertoire of expertise to embrace digitization, deepen our skill sets in urban ecology and horticulture, and engage in projects that stretches our capabilities and know-how. Only then can we keep pace with the changes that is taking place around us. This year we see the largest number of submissions so far in SLAA history. Hopefully it is an indication of the increasing business opportunities that our Recognised Practices have currently, and in the years to come. On behalf of SILA Council and SLAA2019 Organising Committee, congratulations to all the award winning firms in SLAA2019.

14

In line with SILA’s vision, the awards aim to increase recognition of the landscape architectural profession and promote the creation of sustainable urban landscapes.

CHENGDU PANDA LAND MASTER PLAN The Chengdu Panda Land Master Plan proposes a connected, immersive and authentic Panda Trail across the city of Chengdu that tells the conservation story of China’s iconic giant panda. It is based on the key principles of conservation, brand, destination, resilience and custodianship, and a high sensitivity towards the existing conservation sites and sanctuaries in the region. The master plan draws heavily on research into how people perceive and engage with wildlife; identifying key areas

critical to raising awareness of the environmental challenges facing giant pandas and other species, including habitat loss and livestock grazing. The design approach is based on a strong commitment to the protection of and respect for animals by enriching and safeguarding their environments. Subsequently, the proposals aim to promote the animals’ comfort and security through design gestures that aim to help dissolve the common idea of humans being dominant over nature.

COLLECT & CONNECT RESILIENT SOUTH CITY Located in San Mateo County, South San Francisco is the bay’s self-proclaimed ‘industrial city’. Major freeways and rail lines divide the city and limit residents’ access to the bay. Parts of the community suffer from flooding and their historic access to the shoreline is blocked by industry. There is also risk from sea-level-rise and seismic events. The Collect & Connect strategy proposes a resilient, responsive network where creeks and streets could be redesigned as

green linear corridors for water management and community gathering – transforming the regional structure from a vulnerable loop into a connected resilient network. To ensure the proposal truly reflected local needs and aspirations, the design team engaged the community – by transforming vacant old building into a community meeting place, design hub, education centre and display space. A virtual presence was also established to reach a wider audience.

JUDGES’ CITATION This scheme is a very comprehensive, sensible community-centric approach with understanding of the existing community. It turns the natural elements into potentially excellent public spaces, used as mitigating measures against flooding. This proposal reinforced notion public spaces are key to build resilience in areas of Water, Ecology, Community and Emergency. A good “call to action” challenge, which galvanized collaboration and inspired a road map. It presents a new paradigm in designing for Resiliency, to tackle the larger issues brought about by climate change and weather conditions.

TAMPINES GREENRIDGES The Tampines GreenRidges landscape realizes the visionary Tampines North ‘landscape master-plan’ through commencing the green network that connects future neighbourhoods across precincts and the entire town. Fostering community relations gardening plots, shared gardens, community pavilions and fitness nodes evolved from the “kampong” spirit of facility-sharing. These

activity areas are conveniently located for every day and evening use. Pavilions and outdoor seats become rest points for young and elderly who can wander the continuous roof gardens as part of their exercise or simply strolling. The pathways form an immersive meandering route throughout the precinct while shade from the hundreds of planted trees and towering apartment blocks shield the residents from the sun.

WEST ROCK @ BUKIT AND PARK West Rock @ Bukit Batok comprises of four residential blocks and features a landscaped central spine, connecting to an adjacent lush park with multi-generation amenities and a wide range of facilities. The development embodies an environment that reflects and re-establishes the link between nature and living. Its unique faรงade was inspired by the natural hilly formations of Bukit Batok, which also informed the colour scheme, as well as the stepped terraces. The Common Green is a centralized

community area, offering a lush green environment with recreational facilities. The area was conceptualized as an homage to its once abundant greenery and woodlands, and features pergolas and trellises amidst the landscaping. The Park was strategically placed between West Rock and the nearby Nursing Home, providing a welcoming seamless approach for all. A sustainable approach was also undertaken by incorporating bioswales to treat runoff water and promote biodiversity.

THE GROVE Located in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, the site is next to the lushly vegetated Baiyun Mountain, a rare natural scenery for urbansited projects. The overall layout comprises of a U-shaped highrise open to the scenery of Baiyun Mountain, and a twostorey height commercial block at the front. The landscape area formed as a courtyard enclosed by these building blocks, while the two garden terraces allowed the landscape to spread to the commercial roof reaching out to

the mountain, meanwhile the green amphitheatre at commercial street extended the greenery down to the sunken plaza. This project aims to be an extension of Baiyun Mountain forest vegetation, creating metapopulation for the plants, promote biophilia among the residents and its neighbourhood and to infusing traditional elements and image of orient into contemporary design, that has increasingly seen the loss of local culture.

70 SAINT PATRICK The landscape design and layout was conceptualized from a childhood game of “Pick-Up Sticks” in response to the random orientation and layout of the architecture. The design expresses the “Sticks” pattern throughout the landscape, creating a distinct recognizable landscape element and more importantly, functions as a unifying and way-finding element throughout the site. These sticks with varying dimensions evolve through the landscape in different densities, alignment, patterns

and functions. They eventually transform into landscape features such as passageways, planters, floor patterns, lighting bars and so forth, throughout the 5 zones of “holistic living” proposed. The Five Lifestyle Zones proposed are; Private Sanctuary, Social Niche, Wellness Hub, Nature Retreat and Leisure Enclave. The “5 Zones of Living” create a pluralistic and holistic living environment for the residents while also corresponding to the fragmented nature of the architectural block layout.

CONCOURSE SKYLINE A post-modern commercial and residential building, The Concourse is a contemporary urban ‘Gateway’ to the Bay. With the original commercial building designed by the architect Paul Rudolph, the new residential area is also made of wedge-shaped rhomboids that give the building an artistic architectural flair, staying true to Rudolph’s distinct expression. This wedge-shaped rhomboid element formed the landscape

spaces and landscape features, which defines the pathway, timber deck, water features, pools, and greenery. This forms are expressed horizontally in plan layout as well as vertically in 3-dimensional elements like the lawn mounds in the plaza, the glass bubble tank feature elements in the arrival atrium and the stepping cascades on level 5. Fringed with lush greenery, the amenities offer sweeping views of either the Bay or the city skyline.

THE PANORAMA The Panorama is a private highdensity residential development in Singapore. The landscape design for this development was conceived as a lush sculpted tropical garden environment, inspired by the naturalistic undulating contours of the site. Through abstraction and manipulation of contours, the landscape design features ‘ribbons’ of walkways and decks weaving across the central open space between the towers, in both horizontal and vertical dimensions, linking together different amenity zones, creating a multi-layered and pluralistic environment. The

organic under-pinning derived from nature becomes the centrepiece, propagating sinuous waves across the landscape, with a “Tree-top walk” feature sweeping across, over pools, walkways, playground and planting, providing unique vantage points to various landscape elements at different heights. A large variety of plant species were used to increase the biodiversity of the site and strategic trees provide a cool outdoor environment encouraging outdoor activities and engagement with nature.

MARINA ONE Marina One, with a unique urban ecosystem right at the heart of Marina Bay, will uphold Singapore’s image as a world leader and first example of a Cityin-a-Garden. The architecture of four towers acknowledge the new city grid on the outside whilst carving a dramatic and soaring green space internally, the famous ‘green heart’. The concept intent guiding the landscape design was the idea of environmental strata; forest at the base, green terraces upwards to cloud forest. The

central garden at level one draws the visitor in from the many entry points, which all converge on the shallow pool that curves through the space, criss-crossed with 2 level bridges. Cascading softly down into the pools from the upper louvres are the 2 and 3-storey high sparkling waterfalls. The intent is to foster the spirit of biophilia, a sense of closeness to nature in spite of the man made location, helping people to sense the peacefulness of a new type of urban tropical rainforest.

ROBINSON TOWERS Robinson Tower is a prestigious new commercial development in the center of Singapore’s CBD. Its landscape consists of the public realm surrounding the building and Sky Terraces at various levels. With a dramatic architectural play, the tower hovers above the podium building, creating a large void between these two main building components. The void creates opportunity for landscape to complement the architecture. Planting also gives meaning and enlivens the sculptural ‘cracks’, like in nature where plants grow

from crevices and slowly colonise hard geological features. As time passes, the vegetation will become more prominent in defining and filling the voids. Robinson breaks the trend of flat sky terraces with its connected Sky Terraces with Tree canopies flowing from one level to another. The final design result is a landscape that is beautiful in itself, but that actually only derives its real meaningfulness from its relationship with the architecture and the surrounding urban fabric.

But the site needed to go even further, breaking down traditional barriers between people within the company and the wider community, empowering people to perform their best. As the concept architect, landscape architect and interior designer, the integrated design team approached the project from the ‘inside out’, looking closely at what

inspires and engages their people to design an agile, open and multi-layered ‘green’ campus that promotes employees’ wellbeing – and brings those aspirations to life all around them. The landscape design seamlessly blends the building with its parkland site – with more than 60,000 new plants and trees that complemented retained existing mature trees – as well as the three revitalized colonial heritage bungalows in Rochester Park.

SETIA WALK The landscape design for Setia Walk, in Malaysia, was inspired by the natural landscape of a flowing river body of water. As the water flows and meanders along its length, it dynamically changes shape, form, and character. These subtle twists and turns are complemented and reinforced by the adjacent amenities, activities, and facilities, along the water’s edge. Together all these elements provide for a variety of experiences to create a series of vibrant, choreographed spaces outdoor rooms, as you walk along

a path of discovery and surprise. The dynamic mix of activities, amenities, and facilities creatively achieved the client’s wish to create a live, work, and play - an environment that is family friendly. The central landscape anchors the overall development, and adds to the overall value and prestige of the project. Since its completion, the landscape has helped create a distinct identity for the project a landmark within the Puchong neighborhood.

VILLAGE, OUTPOST AND BARRACKS HOTEL The overall landscape design of Village, Outpost and Barracks Hotel is an integrative response to the site and architecture design, with its main derivation from the responsive design process that actively sought to engage with existing macro, micro site conditions and architectural massing. Through analysis and interpretations of existing site conditions, based primarily on the stratified topographical elements of site, the existing site is respectfully retained by changing architectural

elevations whilst generating new visual connections, spatial relationships and thus sensory experiences. Meandering of green and blue curves resulted in the interwoven bands of varied scales, creating the tapestry of series of outdoor rooms defined by water bodies of swimming pools, eco ponds, reflective water features, deckings and communal social pods, all experienced within the lush setting of greenery.

FAIRMONT MALDIVES SIRRU FEN FUSHI Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, this 16 hectare island with 120 keys enjoys unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations. The main design challenge was to realise the client’s vision for a landscape that would differentiate the resort from the other resorts in the Maldives. The central design element was proposed as a 200m long and 10m wide Water Axis that spanned across the heart of the island, from East to West. This striking feature

would be the centre of the activities for the resort. This design proposal challenged the orthodox approach to resort planning in the Maldives that dictated the villas, amenities and facilities to be located along the sea frontage with views of the horizon, and the beaches. To be both sustainable and resilient, the landscape strategy also employed protective measures through planting and demarcation of an additional green buffer zone to ensure a future-proof project.

JINSHUO HOTEL & RESORT Jinshuo Hotel & Resort is a 21 hectares site located in Sichuan, China. It is a holistic marriage between nature and people that unfolds with a sense of mystery in a resort of luxurious beauty. Past and present meet in the utilization of materials such as rammed-earth walls to bring ancient Han culture into the design. An unexpected contemporary twist on historical architecture. A series of water sensitive elements

imagined very single drop of water in a bigger picture, where water plays a vital role in the whole story of the place. The plant selection is a mix of native plants and introduced species to create a more robust planting palette. Experience was also scripted with defining trees with seasonal interest. A truly integrated approach was achieved by having all the interiors, architecture and landscape run not only in parallel with each other by a deliberate blurring of the boundaries.

The landscape framework transforms the forest landscape into a coastal landscape, with feature rockscape as the main spine - the “Rock Spine” that ties the two together. The variations and intersections of the forest and coastal landscape creates interesting contrasts and juxtapositions while the rockscapes give the opportunities for three-dimensional articulation that become highlights with water cascades, cave, waterfalls and rock pools.

ANCHOR GREEN PRIMARY SCHOOL Completed in 2018, the Water and Sand Play (EWS) garden in Anchor Green Primary School in Sengkang provided the opportunity for the creation of a landscape design that is holistic and beautiful, and yet serves the honorable purpose of education. Pupils can play, learn and discover using water and sand as tools to channel their creativity and fun. Aside from providing play features, the garden includes a large variety of flora and fauna for pupils to explore nature, not just through textbooks and tests, but through the visceral experience

of seeing and being in the actual environment. As a nod to Anchor Green’s maritime name, the garden is nautically themed, with a sand pit ‘beach’ and a wet play ‘sea’, separated by a ‘ship’s deck’ elevated structure. The garden also provides soil plots for each child to grow their own plants, as well as a compost area to teach pupils more about planting and farming. As an outdoor classroom, the EWS garden is meant to inspire students and inject in them a healthy dose of the spirit of inquiry.

The clients envisaged a high-quality, open and flexible public realm that allows for both casual uses and organised events – vibrant spaces that heighten the experience of visitors to the venues, while presenting as attractions in their

own right. By reinvigorating parklands, integrating landscapes and incorporating water features, public artworks, plazas and event spaces, opportunities for activities as varied as open-air concerts, circus events, art appreciation, market stalls and busking are created. Improved pedestrian, cycle and public transport connections now also make it easier for people to access this precinct, its previously disconnected immediate neighbourhoods, the harbour and Sydney’s city centre.

ETHNOBOTANY GARDEN (SINGAPORE BOTANIC GARDENS) The Ethnobotany Garden is a multi-functional landscape, serving as a visitor attraction/ recreation facility, community work space, and research centre. It is an unexceptional portion of the botanic gardens that has been converted into a journey revealing how early settlers and indigenous people of Southeast Asia made use of plants in their daily life and culture. Containing approximately 300 species of plants and accompanied by a comprehensive and engaging interpretive

storyline, the garden provides the citizens and visitors of the highly urbanized city with a glimpse of the historical value of many plants and trees that are either common today only as landscape material or have been lost through time. Through collective research into the cultural history of the region, the design team generated a zoned plan based on a traditional village that allows visitors to experience the plants as they would have originally been utilised in a combination of naturalistic and cultivated groupings.

REDEVELOPMENT OF ADMIRALTY PARK AS A REGIONAL DESTINATION PARK IN SINGAPORE The redevelopment of the 27-hectare Admiralty Park as a regional destination park in northern Singapore serves as an important recreational space for the future North Coast Innovation Corridor Belt and also a transport node between Singapore and Johor Bahru. The redevelopment established a wetland-theme landscape concept to embrace the existing mangrove and riverine habitats and fostering environmental stewardship for sustainable resiliency. The urban zone was transformed into a mangrove-theme play site of

three different play areas: Family Terracing Play area, Adventure Play area and Junior Play area, with each play area strategically located to meet the multifaceted needs of the respective age group. The large turnout of the community upon opening of the park was a strong testament in achieving the Destination status. The holistic integrated playing experience is envisioned that the park users will bring back a memorable and fun experience which in turn fosters social cohesion and community wellbeing.

SINGAPORE BOTANIC GARDENS BUKIT TIMAH CORE VISITOR KIOSK AND BOARDWALK The opening of Botanic Gardens MRT Station greatly increases the visitorship of the Bukit Timah Core. It created an opportunity to enhance the arrival experience of visitors and strengthen the design identity of the Bukit Timah Core. The new Visitor Kiosk and Boardwalk was designed to address the site context, heritage, the arrival experience and authentic sense of place through thoughtful master planning, architecture and landscape design. The architecture uses botany as a design generator,

reminiscent of open porous tree branches, with visitors under canopies with filtered light and an emphasis on appearing light and non-intrusive to the naturalistic quality of the site. Further to architectural and landscape design interventions, a new master plan was conceptualized with physical and programmatic correlation to tie together various gardens around the Eco Lake, with the lake as an anchor.

BIDADARI GREEN & BLUE MASTER PLAN Bidadari is deeply embedded in Singapore’s history and culture, and holds significant ecological value in Singapore as a rare habitat refuge for migratory birds within a highly urbanized area. At the core of the Bidadari Master Plan is a vision of humans and nature living in harmony, through the development of intelligent and sustainable land management systems. The original woodlands are retained as a wildlife refuge, while surrounding parcels and networks are designed to support

this ecological heart of the site, acting as buffer zones and green connectors. Residential estates are woven through the woodland fabric, creating a biophilic oasis for residents within the city. Green and blue guidelines integrate water sensitive urban design (WSUD) throughout the estate, optimizing water efficiency within the site and ensuring excess is filtered and channelled to Singapore’s reservoirs.

JUDGES’ CITATION The project shows great breadth and depth in both analysis and planning, with considerations on how to retain and enhance the existing landscape of the area while developing a high density public housing estate. The efforts, complexity and details shown in enhancing the biodiversity and bringing back the natural habitats for birds alone is commendable, creating an attractive, accessible and connected living environment imbued with nature. The integration of urban design to landscape spatial zoning and park layout has pushed frontiers for ecological planning and environmental sustainability in township planning.

CONCEPTUAL MASTER PLAN 358HA OF MARINE ECOLOGICAL URBAN AREA AT QUANG NAM PROVINCE The 358ha master plan design well accounts the site’s existing geographical conditions and the government’s regional goal for a ‘development corridor’ eastwest and central of Quang Nam province. It is envisioned as a World-class Tourism Destination– a progressive tourism route/gateway between the vibrant Da Nang and UNESCO world heritage city of Hoi An. It faces east Vietnam sea to the north-east and is cradled by Coco River along north-west to south-

west, giving the site variety of natural water features. Its terrain of gentle hills and floodplains is graced with bucolic agriculture of paddy fields and vegetable farmlands interspersed with different local flora. Along with Quang Nam’s reputation as ‘local handicrafts’ haven’ significantly crafted in to enhance the heritage tours in Central Vietnam, the ultimate strategy is to create sustainable communities– adaptive to changes and resilient against rising water levels.

WOODLEIGH NEIGHBOURHOOD Woodleigh Neighbourhood is a 13.2 ha of public residential project set within Bidadari Estate in Singapore. It comprises a hill park – Bidadari Park, and 2 housing precincts – Woodleigh Glen and Woodleigh Hillside –which will house some 1,400 apartment units. It is sited on an undulating terrain and along the flight path of migratory birds on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. The project is planned and designed to bring the natural environment to the forefront and use it as a spatial organizing driver to guide its design. 3 broad strategies were used – respecting

nature by enhancing existing natural assets such as biodiversity, topography and hydrology; providing greater access to nature to allow more opportunities for people to reconnect with nature; and enhancing environmental health and human well-being through optimization of urban ecosystem services. Methodical site investigations and analyses included mapping of existing biodiversity, vegetation and the migratory dry land birds, as well as existing amenities and human circulation.

WOODLANDS HEALTH CAMPUS Humans in traditional societies have long valued forests as source of food, health and healing. We still value trees and flora of the forest as possible sources of future medicinal compounds. With a concept of “healing forest for the Woodlands Integrated Healthcare Campus (WHC) and Parkland, this holistic idea encompasses the entire site with a conceptual woodland character interspersed with a range of immersive experiences. Exploring these woods provides a continuum from the social gathering spaces of at the heart of the plaza and campus,

through productive patches, to open grasslands, shaded wood glades toward the denser, more forest like peripheral woodland hillside. It is a journey back to nature, and the healing powers of the forest. The landscape for WHC provides a physical environment that provides both support for the health care facilities and creates a series of enhanced and compelling places for people with the overall benefits of health, wellbeing and belonging.

GUANGZHOU LIJIAO MASTER PLAN Despite being once ranked as the best commercial city on the Chinese mainland, Guangzhou does not have the adequate plans to avert flood disasters, offering very little protection to its highly valuable assets. Lijiao, located at the mouth of, is an access point to the Pearl River Delta region, planned as a convergence point of new railways and metro lines in Guangzhou. Aiming to be a model for climate adaptation, this master plan consists of a continuous park system that ties nature and city together in a

cohesive network through a green axial corridor connecting Lijiao and Haizhu National Wetland Park. Landscape bridges span vehicular viaducts, forming seamless green connections culminating in a livable waterfront community. Urban stormwater management systems and holistic integrated climate adaptation strategies will be adopted to withstand the challenges of global warming, with infiltration encouraged while excess rainwater will be collected and channelled via the central axis to the estuary.

SEMBAWANG HOT SPRING PARK Discovered in 1909 by a Chinese merchant, this unique phenomenon of three springs were channelled into one, and were popular amongst villagers and kampong communities till today. As a historical spot for social gatherings, this hot spring has much potential to be unveiled as a park. The landscape architecture approach celebrates this wonder of Nature, for it to be enjoyed by people from different ages and capabilities with reminiscence of

the kampong setting. Given such rarity, the site size, context and the intention to bring more people in, the park is moulded to achieve its potential by illustrating the full extent of water cycle as part of the landscape experience. For the southern area, the source of the hot spring water and its drainage planned and incorporated into the landscape design as part of the recreational features in the park.

ICN DESIGN INTERNATIONAL PTE LTD

LAND DESIGN ONE PTE LTD

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Specializing in the conception, design and implementation of living landscapes, ICN continues to create distinctive living places for people, thinking and designing for the whole physical sphere where our everyday lives, learning and recreation take place; streetscapes and green infrastructure, plazas and urban farms.

Award winning designs, international experience, and creative solutions — this is Land Design One. Based in Singapore and Manila, we provide services locally and to all of Asia, combining the internationally diverse experience of our partners with a skilled technical team to serve a diverse and sophisticated clientele.

Not forgetting, waterfront promenades and estuarine mangroves, city parks and rainforests, community playgrounds and tech campuses, and stunning gardens that respect heritage buildings. Our experience demonstrates that bespoke design is crucial for each unique site, and each individual client. Tailoring services to your needs; for people in cities and communities in nature, across our dynamic and diverse region, we strive for excellence.

We approach all projects with a clear and holistic foundation of environmental stewardship, creation of liveable communities, and cultivation of the natural link between people and the land, all within a well-reasoned, problem-solving process.

Hotel & Resorts

Working alongside architects, engineers, and planners, we respond to the individual site and its unique needs, developing a creative and singular solution to each assignment and constantly recognising and balancing the application of various facets of our practice–environmental, aesthetic, social, and economic. This is accomplished with the understanding that the landscape is a truly public part of the built environment– experienced, shared, and valued by everyone.

SALD PTE LTD

LEN-TIL PTE LTD

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Name of our company does not mean anything but the sounds “Len” and “Til”.

We do landscape design for public space, condominium, institution and resort with perseverance like many other landscape firms.

They are mere waves that barely vibrate the air and water. They do not mean anything alone, however, they would be able to form a piece of music that convey mood and feeling. We capture invisible qualities belongs to the place and make them into the visible forms.

Besides these, we are wrestling to be triggered by the current flux of humanity, expressing its dynamism and fragility through thoughts and created objects.

The Lines we draw would mean Time and Space. The Planes we create would mean Wellness and Hospitality.

In the ebb and flow of the post-Anthropocene still within the epoch of Anthropocene, we are even more oscillating in the negotiation between artificiality and nature, science and culture, the physical space and the mental space.

The process of making invisible into visible form is our nature. We enjoy the process as much as the people who visit the place in the future would do.

We are based in Singapore, a place parented by the landscape of an environment of biotic species plethora, saturated with moisture and sunlight. It is in this extreme environment of plurality, that we are privileged to be experimenting with the single species of the human’s myth of morality and perceived beauty of our social order. We look forward to execute a landscape of either biophilic altruism or terraforming other planets as fugitive.

Site Concepts International is one of the earliest continuously operated International Landscape Architectural firms in Asia, and is the earliest to establish offices in India which have made us one of the best recognized names in the Asian Landscape Design profession. At SCI, we believe that the site and its surrounding, and project type, (appropriate design), are the most important factors in design, followed by the architectural style and then the marketing preference, (traditional, contemporary), of the client. These elements taken together, form the guidelines for design, and with creative energy, make each project a unique design statement, seamlessly conjoined with the architecture and the environment, yet made unique through the creative response to the sites character or the sites sever limitations.
