This project is to design a museum on the riverfront of Gateway Arch in St. Louis.A ferry terminal and a metro station locates close to the site, therefore I decided to integrate the two transit facilities into the museum, to create a better connection of transportations to local residents and visitors.

To express the idea of tranforming from “vertical” urban space to “horizontal” landscape, the body of the building twisted 90 degrees, to create a dramatic transformation in the space as well as the facade, and also better coordinates with the flows of people.

Current situation: urban Goal: Relink the city dynamics are blocked

This is a residential and office complex locating in the center of downtown Sao Paulo. However, an urban expressway cut off the connection between the site and the downtown area. The idea of the design is to create a pedestrian bridge with also retail and service programs in it, to connect the several residential towers and go over the high way to connect the complex with the downtown urban space.

Topography

The site locates in the crossing of Interstate Highway I-210 and local Inwindale Ave in Los Angeles. The design of the shopping mall is trying to meet with the special living style of people in CA, living on wheels. With a ramp going all the way through the building, people can enjoy the service of the shopping center easily without even leaving the car.

The Renascense of Beijing City Wall

The city wall of Beijing was built during the Ming Dynasty. City wall comprised 39.75 kilometres with 16 gates, which was dismantled in 1960s.Now the 2nd Ring Road of Beijing, an elevated freeway loop was built exactly upon the footprint of the 300 year old city wall of Beijing.Once helped to solve traffic problems at the beginning of Beijing’s urbanization process, the Ring Road is now a most undesirable space in the city. Our strategy is to overlap several urban and landscape systems right above and below the Ring Road to create a “new wall”, which amplifies traffic capacity, accommodates new public spaces, creates a continuous open landscape and stitches isolated urban areas along the ring. Unlike the ancient city wall that serves as a boundary and barrier between nature and city, the new wall merges nature and city, infrastructural and landscape.
