Editor of The Ch’orti’ Maya Area: Past and Present and Chocolate in Mesoamerica: A Cultural History of Cacao

EXPERTISE: Mesoamerican archaeology, the ancient Maya, Teotihuacan in the Maya Area, historical ecology, uncovering the senses through archaeological practice, gender studies, pollen analysis, archaeobotany, and ritual practice

EXPERIENCE: Has worked in the Copán Valley in Honduras for over 25 years investigating ancient ritual plant use and human-environmental interactions, patterns of societal collapse among the Maya, and the beginnings of the Early Classic period. Has directed excavations in the Copán Valley since 2011 and is the PI on the Proyecto Arqueológico de la Periferia de Copán (PAPC)

McNeil is currently investigating a Teotihuacan Fort in the hills above Copán
