Silvermine’s annual juried exhibition has in recent years concentrated on a single medium. For this centennial year, independent curator and critic Lilly Wei asked artists to look ahead to the next 100 years and submit remarkable, original projects that reflect a vision of what the future might be. The Next Century will open on April 30 and run through June 9 at the Silvermine Galleries. The works on view “represent a dazzling array of mediums and styles, both classic and experimental,” writes curator Lilly Wei. “Pressing environmental, social, political, and economic issues intertwine with those of race, gender, and cultural heritage. The artists explore materiality and formal issues as well as spirituality, personal narratives, activism, fantasy, science fiction, comedy, and drama.”
