__is represented by the industrial sites that in the present have no functionality. Many of this sites contains constructions or assemblies of great value for the industrial heritage and have also edifices that are stil in good shape structurally speaking, that can be reused in order to assign them new functionalities due to the type of space that defines them and the free plan representative for halls and production spaces. Through conversion and re-utilization, the negative image of this sites is transformed in the collective memory in a positive one becoming in time a city emblem, a local Brand. The cultural chatacter, suppressed and diminished in the communist era should be now emphased. The site is situated in Tirgoviste the residence of Dimbovita county from Muntenia region Romania. The city has a number of 90000 habitants and is located near Bucharest (70km ~1h car drive) and also Ploiesti and Pitesti. Being the royal residence and the capital between 1396-1714, the city owned over three centuries the statute of the most important economic, cultural artistic and polical-military center of “Tara Romaneasca”. Nowadays the city, as it is shown in the debate for approving the new PUG, has a character situated at the CONFLUENCE of cultural-histo -ric / medieval and industrial.

The site is situated in the close proximity and with a close connection with the city center area. The neighbor areas play an important role in the progress of the project. The present surrounding area and the context represent the starting key point. -in the past a big part of the site was included into the gardens of the City Church outlining a tight connection between the city center and the old industrial construction. -in the 60’s this area was wanted hidden , the arrier of block of flats varying between P+6/P+10 drew a line between the city center and the discussed site, a curtain that hided the industrial area. -after 1989 considerable plots from UPET factory were sold, and on this plots super-markets were build. So it happens that in the immediate proximity of the main façade PenyMarket was build. The current situation present itself like this: -the terrain was sold and it’s private property.-from the 6 initial halls symmetrically disposed in 2 corps in a shape of an U only one group is still standing with 3 halls .The facades of this halls were to be included in the volumetric of a mall project. -in 2007 the halls are declared historical monument and the mall project is
stopped, no innervations were allowed. After including the halls in the class B monuments they were arson and one of them lost the roof structure . The positon of the site, between a factory a super-market and a barrier of residential buildings , between commercial and places to live and work, the solution dose not obey to the context but does not deny it either trying to solve the existent problems(re-establish the value of the existing building and the reconnection with the city center) and to realize an coexistence statute. Because of the soundings, having no opening towards a favorable view, the solution becomes an introverted one, the focus is set to the patio. The patio is not closed, but open inviting the pedestrians in the created public space.

The TOWER -through its height it’s a signal for the city and a belvedere point. -the position gives him the statute of the vertical node that points and ties the different functionalities of the project. -the dematerialization suggest the connection with the Chirch. The Tower is open for the North Side , with a visible metallic structure , and the part that hols the stair and the elevators is covered with an metallic net with creepers. This façade with intermediate green terraces give the impression of an oasis , a vertically green space a connection with the Curch garden. The tower plays the role of reestablishing tne connection with the city center ad reconciling the boundaries imposed by modernism. Another important idea fir this project is the one of maintaining and potentiation of the memory and identity of the architectural object. This is accomplished by keeping in plan of the historical configuration on the Arenal, and of the volumetric forms. The old assembly , being a part of the industrial military patrimony stands out through symmetry and repetition of full-empty on the façade. This gives the rhythm. The order and discipline present in the army are represented in architecture through symmetry and repetition. The new volume, although are part of the same formal group, are different then the existing ones through the angles and heights. This diagonal game brings dynamic for the new compositions , also necessary for the chosen functionality. THE FAÇADE is composed of mobile panels mare of perforated corten and in is used to accomplish the same goal, to filtrate and targeting the natural light towards the interior spaces and to crate a play of shadows and light, similar to a forest place. THE MATERIAL used for the façade , perforated corten, reminds of the old functionality. As mentioned earlier the halls were also known as FONDERIE, a place for forging metal. The façade is neuter, uniform, it has no empty spaces for doors or windows, but the pace of the structure , the placement of the panels and the placement of the perforations take after the rhythm of the old façade.

Located in Azuga, a montain town with beautiful views, the house has a living room, which continues to the veranda and the garden, the doors open entirely, diluting the division between interior and exterior. The main entrance is done through pivoting panels that also open entirely to the front garden. In the internal space, a long irregularly-shaped sofa wriggles around the room, constructing a space with no hierarchy among the different orientations. On the top floor, a hallway distributes the circulation to the bedrooms, which are lit and also protected from direct sun by a wood covered loggia, in contrast with the corrugated zinc wall of the facade. The gutters are hidden behind the zinc pannels of the facade, keeping the volumes as sleek and pure as possible. The materials used for the facade are from the local area - stone, wood and metal, and they are continued inside the living area too, blurring the division between in and out. The structure of the house incorporates large spans which accentuate the idea of a floating volume, besides propitiating a totally free and continuous space.

Bachelor Pad
Urban Retro Apartment SPRING / SUMMER 2015 Location Bucharest / Ro Brief Interior design for a bachelor’s apartment Type Commission / Team: arh.Iulia Saftoiu Duration 9 months
Located in the residential district of Bucharest, Drumul Taberei, characteristic for the urbanisation movement begun in the ‘50s, the apartment was design as the updated version of a bachelor pad from that period. The interior is defined by clean lines, industrial touches and a concept based on the idea of bringing and old image in the present by upgrading each room and its functions to a more actual state of being, accordingly to owner’s needs, whishes and values. The owner describes himself as a bachelor, passionate by cycling, urban sports and cars.

His passion for speed and mechanics is translated in the chosen style - an industrial and urban look, translated in forms of furniture pieces defined by functionality, neutral tones, clean lines and rough materials (wood, metal, stone and brick).
Left The Former Ground Floor Plan
The two storage rooms and the partition wall between the hallway and kitchen area were been demolished creating in this way an opened unified space for the kitchen and dinning area. Even though each room is different in furnishing and has a different theme, the graphical aspect is keept in all of them and the urban and industrial style is what gives the whole apartment design calm throughout coherence.

The kitchen and dinning area features gray painted cabinets, paired with white carrara marble countertops and backsplash. The upper cabinets keep the same contemporary clean lines and the wood-like finnish accents a warm feeling in contrast with the gray tones. The ceiling is another surface for exploring the hexagonal shape inspiration, using for that 2 tones of hex mirrors, for resambling in a modern way the old ceiling medallions, and diamond shaped pendants. The kitchen cabinets are designed in a minimalist style, with accents of gold (brass), following the image of a simple box, almost like a wall, in order to accentuate the hexagonal, gray and white, floor tiled pattern. The white and gray hex tiled floor from the kitchen goes throughout the bathroom and all of the hallways, as a unifing element for those type of spaces and transitions into wood loors in the living and bedroom, for a ___ 43

___more cosy, warm feeling. In the center of the kitchen the floor tiles are used in a pattern which gives an almost 3D effect and are placed in a rectangular shape, creating a rug look. The kitchen and dinning space was designed around the idea that this room should not be used as a place only for its essencial functionality, but also as another place for meeting and entertaining guests. The kitchen becomes a transitional space and without using doors becomes a fluent and opened space which connects the other main rooms and functions in the apartment. It could be considered the first living space, the reception area for guests.

The living room continues the same retro urban style, with a color scheme inspired this time by the pictures of Saul Leiter and using some iconic pieces of furniture and decor. The exposed brick wall is used as a backdrop for the industrial shelves made out of wood and pipes and gives a vintage look for this room. Because of the small proportions of this space every piece of furniture is raised on stilts above the floor and has an opened, almost aery feeling. The rough and natural materials like metal brick, wood, leather resamblence the masculin image and contrasts with the glass used in the glass brick divider wall and some furniture pieces. The graphic aspect is fallowed in this room too by using contrasts in the color scheme, such as black and white and primary colors which complements eachother and gives a sense of simetry for the whole composition. 47

The bathroom features, in a minimalist style, a costom -made concrete cast sink with wood shelve and drawer, hexagonal black and white tiled floor and white subway tiled walls for the shower area. The subway tiles are a resemblance for the exposed brick wall used in the living room and the graphic play between black and white gives the illusion of a larger space.

The bedroom walls are painted in a rich blue tone and the furnishing and decorating pieces used in this room follow the same play between black and white, but introduces another theme with the aztek prints and touches of vibrant orange. The bed’s canopy is costom made and acts like a picture frame. Behind it are sheleves for books. The canopy’s height from floor to ceiling centers the bed and it gives a more majestic feeling. The idea of simmetry is fallowed through the entire room, considering the bed the ax of simmetry. The build in dressing closet is positioned in opposite direction with the window and has 3 sliding doors: two of them are mirror finnished and the other one is painted in vertical black and white stripes, in order to match the opposite window curtain.

Above this dimension of temporal skate overlapped the necessity of functionality and adaptation of the house to the new restaurant function. Wood in natural shade was privileged in terms of furniture, designed and built almost entirely in collaboration with Nod Makerspace and the ceiling area thanks to the apparent beams. All this wood heat is counterbalanced by the cool color palette (blue, indigo) and supplemented by vegetal accents. What inevitably draws attention to Dei Frati are the luminaires that personalize and delimit each area of the restaurant, taking different geometric shapes. These were custom made with Sign Shop. Type team project, commissioned Duration 12 months
Situated on the property of a larger stud farm in Sambata de Jos, Brasov, this small dwelling serves as a guest house for those making a visit to the equestrian farm. Converted by Viarchitecture studio, the sleek cottage actually has much humbler roots as a former canteen. It is located near by the Brukental Palace. This allows the house to be used while not occupied as an impromptu living space for hosting guests, with direct access to the property’s amenities. The remaining architecture of the house is mostly concrete in form, dividing each room and providing support for the roof. The entire house is sectioned into three areas, allowing maximum usage of its 350 square feet of floorspace. A combination of built-in features and decor cues define each open-form room within the glass and concrete walls, allowing free flow between areas without a loss of identity for each.

Left Interior visualisation, view od the living room beyond the dining / conference table Bottom Left Ground Floor Plan - the living room (room 02)
The living room serves multiple functions, being tought as the core of the house. It is divided into a leisure and relaxation area and one for conferences , studies or dining. The tall height from slab to slab of the room gives a possibility for using a large chandelier and tall mirrors in this space. The glass topped table devides the room, throughout its possition, in the two separate function areas. The use of glass for the costum made table was choosen for a reason: to offer the viewer a free perspective from every point in the room. The U shaped furniture unit unifies the entire space.
