Quick Note from our Editor MY WORK
Family
“When people know we truly care about them and not just about what we can get out of them, they tend to go the extra mile”.
Welcome to our latest edition #4, to be exact of our new style InTouch e-magazine. Many of us may say that we consider our colleagues like family, but then we act in a way that makes them feel that we are no relation to them whatsoever. However, we in Group Corporate Communications are hell bent on walking the talk! Colleagues should learn to respect each other and celebrate successes, failures, challenges and find ways to communicate without condemning others or the company where they work. Our Group is a great place to work! There! I said it, and more importantly, I mean it. I’ll tell you why in our next issue.
Let’s rethink our existing commitments to our friends and colleagues and “double-down” on our efforts to create a workplace where we can connect with open and honest dialogue and aspire to be the best and give our best. Let’s get to the level of caring about each other in the work space and defending where we work! Would you like it if someone bad mouthed your family? In this edition, we highlighted the Group’s recent achievements, profiled some of our leaders in the ANSA McAL family and for the sports enthusiasts you can check out the action from the Heineken Champions League and CPL. There is something for everyone!
We want you to feel that you are part of this new magazine InTouch. So, if you have something on your mind that you wish to share, or you would like to contribute to InTouch, just drop us a line at corporatecommunications@ ansamcal.com and I guarantee you we will respond. So let’s appreciate what we have. It’s the right thing to do!
Happy reading. Sharon
Sharon Balroop, Group Corporate Communication Manager P.S Happy Birthday to our comical photographer Kirwin. Check him out in the team shot.

FAZAL ARMAN SECTOR HEAD - DISTRIBUTION Q: You were recently appointed as the new Sector Head for Distribution. How do you feel about your new role and what are some of your priorities? A: This is a very exciting opportunity. In my previous role as Deputy Chairman I was tasked with driving some very specific sector improvement initiatives. I am very keen to extend that approach to the entire sector. Broadly speaking, my priorities are to improve the efficiency of the companies so they can reach their maximum potential by reducing complexity, implementing industry best practices and building a stronger collaborative & teamwork environment. Q: How did you get to this point in your career in the Group? A: I actually started my post graduate career with ANSA in it’s earliest incarnation of the “Champion’s” program. I worked with AMCO as a brand manager for 3 years. I then went on to work for Johnson & Johnson’s for 23 years as a director managing the Caribbean markets. After J&J, the opportunity to support the group arose with specific responsibility for business assessment & redesign. Q: A lot of persons may not be familiar with you so give us a line or two that best describes you? A: Informal, precise, more of a listener than a talker. Q: What is your leadership style and where do you draw inspiration from? A: I consistently work to build alignment with the teams I lead. I ensure that there is clarity of direction. I have found that when you can articulate the future & engage your teams in buying into that future, they will support the strategies to make it happen.
expectation is that they will be a stronger professional by the time they have concluded the project based on our joint interaction. Q: Do you ever turn-off your mobile device? How do you maintain a work-life balance given your portfolio? A: I don’t ever turn them off but even if I may read emails late at night, I tend to not respond to them till morning. I have found that as I have gotten more experienced (older), my capacity to compartmentalize has improved so that helps maintain a balance. Also I read & run a lot which provides the mental & physical balance that is required. Q: Live elsewhere or stay right here? A: I was never seriously interested in leaving Trinidad and Tobago. Every country has advantages & disadvantages and Trinidad and Tobago is no exception. Whatever its shortcoming, I have found Trinidad and Tobago to be a tolerant & diverse society where you can do well if you work hard. That is enough for me.
Q: How do you encourage employees to give the best of themselves? A: I invest a lot of time with people and usually I challenge them to raise their game on an initiative by initiative basis. If someone is working with me on project X, my

Rentals takes
Park&Ride to a New level at TIC Appropriately themed, “From T&T to the world”, Trade and Investment Convention (TIC) 2017 hosted its 18th annual convention at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya. TIC creates an enabling environment whereby local manufacturers can harness trade linkages across the globe. For the first time, the Trade and Investment Convention 2017 offered a Park and Ride service to their patrons. This was made possible through ANSA Rentals, a division of ANSA Motors, who partnered with the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturing Association to provide one of the services. ANSA Rentals continues to revolutionize the rental and mobility market in Trinidad & Tobago. Minister of Trade and Industry, the Honourable Paula GopeeScoon, conveyed the Government’s committed to facilitate the diversification of Trinidad and Tobago’s economy. “A tremendous amount of activity is taking place behind the scenes to open markets and create opportunities for
our non-energy exporters in particular, and I firmly encourage our domestic private sector to make full use of these opportunities in the development and execution of your business plans,” she stated. Also speaking at the recently concluded convention, Ms. Hilda Rosa Santiesteban, President of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce also highlighted some areas in which both countries can build more ties in . “We want to continue to strengthen our economic relations by exporting goods and services. In the specific area of services, we want to identify the possibilities of Cuba meeting Trinidad and Tobago’s needs in the areas of health, education and sports,” Ms. Santiesteban expressed. Apart from exports to Trinidad and Tobago, she said Cuba is interested in building additional commercial ties with Trinidad and Tobago conglomerates like the ANSA McAL Group. She concluded by saying that Cuba is the ideal place to set up business and encouraged all investors to visit Cuba.

Motors
Paving the Way to Sustainable Energy
Trinidad and Tobago is gradually reducing public fuel subsidies and introducing alternative energy and fuel options to the public. Thanks to incentives and the overall lower cost per mile, compressed natural gas (CNG) is quickly becoming the most cost-effective solution for consumers and corporate transportation fleets alike. ANSA Motors has accepted the challenge to provide the public with transportation options that align with this national goal. As the official distributor for the Jinbei brand in Trinidad and Tobago, ANSA Motors presented two CNG minibuses and one diesel minibus at a recent press briefing. The presentation was held at the Diamond Motors showroom on Richmond Street, Port of Spain to acknowledge the investment of PSTATT and to congratulate them on their movement toward sustainable energy.
CNG is the cleanest burning transportation fuel on the market today!
From left: President of the NGC CNG Company Ltd Curtis Mohammed and Sales Manager at ANSA Motors, Curtis Bowles presented the keys to three brand new CNG and diesel buses to President of the Private School Transport Association of Trinidad and Tobago (PSTATT) George La Vende.
All three 15-seater units were outfitted for private and commercial transportation and are ideal for maxi-taxi and school bus operation. Jinbei or the Golden Cup, as it is best known in China, has won multiple best-selling awards, and has been available locally since 2015 in panel van and minibus configurations. Though the panel van comes with a standard diesel engine, the minibus has a few options– fuel, diesel and bi-fuel tanks (i.e., CNG and gasoline engines). CNG’s fuel composition makes it very light and extremely safe. All spark-ignited vehicles can be outfitted with CNG kits. CNG saves up to 70 per cent on average per fuel bill and can service between 260 and 300km on a full tank. Dual fuel vehicles have the ability to switch between CNG and fuel and utilise the alternate tank. Locally, Burmac CNG offers CNG installations by qualified engineers.

Our ANSA McAL Colleagues Say
Furaha Emancipation! Did you know?
On August 1, 1985, Trinidad and Tobago became the first country in the world to declare a national holiday to commemorate the abolition of slavery. The day is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the country. The genesis of course is the observance of the emancipation of African Slaves. The world has changed since then.
Here are 5 interesting facts about Africa:
Africa is the world’s second-largest and second-most-populous continent. With 1.0 billion people as of 2009, it accounts for about 14.72 per cent of the world’s human population. The Nigerian economy, with a GDP of $594.257 billion, serves not only as Africa’s richest, but also the 21st largest economy in the world. South Africa is five times the size of Japan and three times the size of Texas or the size of Spain and France together. Two Nobel Peace Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, were housed on the same street. The world’s largest frog, the Goliath frog, can be found in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. It is over one foot long!

CARIB & CPL CRICKET
A MATCH MADE IN CARIBBEAN HEAVEN
Carib has always had a love affair with the people of the Caribbean and cricket, our beloved sport. So, it was no surprise when they announced their 3 - year sponsorship deal in early March of the Hero Caribbean Premier League.
Carib has been at the forefront of supporting local, regional, cultural, sporting, charitable and social activities throughout the diaspora.
Carib is the official beer of the tournament dubbed the biggest party in sport, and what a sight it was to witness a packed Queen’s Park Oval during the first leg of the tournament. Fans lapped up all the Carib paraphernalia and the Carib Team certainly took it up several notches with a carnival atmosphere, not just in the Trini Posse stand but throughout the Oval. Carib girls outshone their competitors by sheer vibes and of course beauty and even managed to distract the fielding side.
Check out the CPL action at the Queen’s Park Oval.
The duo of Carib Beer and Cricket remains legendary!

Champions League
Open Your World to the Football Fever Heineken annual Viewing party for the Champions League Final between Real Madrid & Juventus was like no other. Not even torrential rain could dampen the spirit. The Heineken team switched things up and treated the football enthusiasts to a pre-pump as they headed to Chaquacabana, Chaguaramas on chartered boats with Lurbz, Patrick “Hypeman” Alexis” and JW at the helm. Guests came out in their supporting colours, flags, face painted and apparel. They enjoyed the pre-pump to Chaguaramas, they partied in the heavy rain, all ready to take in the game sea side. Upon arrival guests saw the 1st ever floating football field on the sea as Heineken wowed them with a number of fun activities prior to the game.
It was an exciting match as Real Madrid came out victorious, defeating Juventus by 4-1, led by Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid retained their Champions League crown and also becoming the first team in the Champions League era to successfully defend the trophy with their sixth triumph in the competition. Although Juventus fans were not unhappy with the final score, they soon forgot the defeat with an after-party to beat all after-parties that included Ultimate Rejects, Iwer George and Shal Marshall. This was a fantastic close to another amazing UEFA Champions League campaign by Heineken and their fantastic team.
