THE PLAYCRATE
This project is an exploration of what a civic center is and what it could be in this renaissance of architectural boom. In this exploration of spaces and their relationship, this design consists of three distinct spaces during the winter, a greenhouse, Ice-skating rink, and produce market that emerges as a result of the greenhouse farming which during the summer transforms into a pool, basketball court and a cafe. The major challenge was how we as architects have a responsibility of keeping in mind the life cycle of the civic while make efficient use of the space. Reimagining the idea of what defines “The Civic” and how we as architects can change the public’s relationships between bodies and spaces. This illustration is the big idea of what the future of “The Civic” could articulate towards. Where spaces of play, perversion, corporate and residential together coexist in harmony.

Running Track
The core of the project was to use the square footage given to us to be divided into 3 sizes section, each small, medium and large in order to divided the space equally, keeping the project exciting. My take on the project was to use each of these spaces such that the space is constantly activated both during the summer as well as winter. Since Chicago witnesses almost 8-9 months of winter, I wanted the project to be able to give back to the community through community building. The space is divided into a pool during the summer where it turns into a TRX during the winter, a Basketball court that turns into an ice-skating rink and a running track that becomes a connecting piece into creating a ski slope. Keeping each of these spaces activated all year round. A safe space for the community to expend their energy and time after school.

THE WOODEN WAVE Detail visualization
The wooden wave detail as a light control and display furniture. The wooden wave is a project work in progress as a part of my internship with the 3D exhibition team at The Field Museum. The wooden wave is to be a part of the Hall 8 extension, sectioned for the Native American Pomo Baskets, is designed to be a supergraphic. The wooden slats are reminiscent to that of a woven basket, using this opportunity to overlay the various slats to create a complex wayfinding space. The designed components are meant to provide seating, display for screen/items and wayfinding through story-telling. The design process is a collaboration led by documentaries, curators, scientists and Pomo basket experts. An overall space visualization of the Upcoming permanent Native American exhibition to open in 2021. The rendering encapsulates the elements and aesthetics of the space that is to focus on the Native American Pomo baskets on the west coast. The wooden wave serves as a display furniture, seating furniture, light control as well as a wayfinding device.

FLANUER
Flaneur here is not a space but a quality of space inserted into the Alliance Francaise of Chicago where the doors camouflage into the walls and when opened, reveal a whole new world. This whimsical take on the interior architectural renovation of the space ignited upon my first experience within the space. My project creates an element of delight, like an Alice in wonderland except the fact that it is in real life. The project is highly inspired by the concept of elements of French architecture and Hotel Particulier (French townhouses) where the servants and masters use different modes of circulation in the same space. The closets help create this in-between space that allow users to experience an element of surprise. The purpose of the long dioramic wallpaper is to conceal the seams between the walls and the doors giving the residents an illusion of being in nature and a long infinite gallery space. All of these elements allow people to wander, get lost, and experience space a whole different way

(Honorary mention) As a part of the Alliance Francaise renovation project, we were to design a 1:1 installation for under the budget of $2500 for the new proposed space. This installation was to resonate with our concept of the project. My idea was to propose a retractable tent that performs as a stage as well as a wall furniture. The green velvet fabric exudes a plant like flow where the pink on the inside is to create a whimsical atmosphere, like inside the belly of a giant animal. In my 1:1 installation, I used bent metal rods, as the main retractable structures and pine studs as the base support for weight. The installation is to be installation on the second floor of the Alliance Francaise and camouflages with the other greens in the wallpaper. It is a living briefcase to be performed in. Project to be installed in the space late September 2019.
A TABLE FOR 100
“The beer channel is a table that explores the idea of the preparation and consumption of a communal meal for one hundred people. In contrast to the organization of a restaurant or reception, which divides guests into smaller social groups, this table facilitates an event that is participatory and collective. Reimagining how a singular object accommodates two distinct activities with their own constraints, requirements and outcomes, how form, scale, and material organize space so the guests interact as a community of one hundred people.
CLOUDELIER Ceramic + Architecture
This ceramic+architecture project is dedicated to the exploration of integration of advanced technology into our ceramics process, using softwares like rhino, grasshopper, etc., and the use of various methods of fabrication such as 3D printing and CNC Milling. I wanted to cater this project into learning the skill of mouldmaking, casting, glazing and firing over heavy research. The Cloudelier is suspended from a wooden structure made out of pine studs. The units tessellate higher as we go from stud one to stud five in order to symbolize an advancing procession and allow the viewer to appreciate each unit as a work of art. The tessellation and spacing between the units also allows the viewer to move in between the pieces, getting a view of the top, bottom as well as an elevation that corresponds to the average height. The shape of this designed object is inspired by Thai ornaments specifically worn by the mythical giants that guard the gate of Lord Buddha as well as the very simple shapes by 80’s Memphis design merging them into a translation of both these distinct styles creating an armored army in a suspended colorful procession.

CLOUDELIER BFA show
An installation produced for the mid-year BFA show. The piece of course was inspired by my use of previous forms that was initially produced in ceramics. The rendering on the previous page allowed me to envision these forms as clouds, airy, light and soft. In order to make the pieces interactive, they needed to kep light and airy, therefore, produced by creating CNC forms and then vaccum forming them with clear PETG.

Design for a Mirror and wall screen for a client looking to design a bar in Pilsen neighbourhood, Chicago. Since the Pilsen neighbourhood is occupied by a majority of mexican inhabitants, our client wanted to bing in a mexican touch to the bar. The motif used in the creation of the screens have been outlined from traditional mexican patterns used in tiles. The outlined motif is then multiplied and eroded as the patterns seem to grow into the wall from dense to vine like climbers. Mirror: The mirror screen is a layer of vinyl sticker that is to be laid on a an antique mirror, helps frame the the bottles. Wall Screen: The wall screen is a 4 layer lasercut panel that is stacked such that it erodes both vertically and horizontally as we move away from the origin. Each of these layers are a complex iterations of one another to perform this eroded wall.

TOWER BELLY
Tower Belly is a living fully functional lifestyle hotel. To pose a proposal to the question of “What is the future of co-working in the next ten years?”, to that a new tower inserted into a long narrow existing tri-parti building was the answer; this vertical life was the answer. A life where community is a firsthand, where lifestyle is a priority, by exploring the idea of designing a co-working space without a co-working space. The tower includes amenities crucial to any working individual such as healthcare, childcare, laundry service, boutique offices, shared kitchen, and event space, all co-living within the inserted tower which is surrounded by an ethos of co-work. Co-working spaces today don’t exist in a void where offices are in honeycomb cubicles but rather open plan spaces where members of the community benefit from one other; creating this inter-dependency of both work and companionship. The blob like event space crashing into the tower is a grand gesture that breaks away from the convention of the rectangular block, looking out to the heart of the city, tantalizing the very many individuals to want to experience the space.
FUTURA FOR PRESIDENT
FUTURE FOR PRESIDENT! A poster for the presidential campaign for the font Futura! As a part of this project we were to advertise our chosen font as the President, therefore urging the citizens to vote for it. I used Futura’s facts to present it as a forward looking candidate who will uphold his promises and words.
