Updates UPDATE 3/15/2022 PC: 1.85.203.1030 / Mac: 1.85.203.1230 Console: Version 1.55 BUG FIXES The Sims 4 Seasons Get Famous Cottage Living Spa Day Strangerville My Wedding Stories Romantic Garden Stuff Pack Bust The Dust Kit
This update includes a mix of “bug fixes, Including several new Scenarios, and the expansion of Neighborhood Stories as a configurable system that applies to Neighbor Sims”
8
For this section, we will talk about the latest update from The Sims team! *drum roll please* Did you know? The Sims had a recent update about Neighborhood Stories last March 15, 2022. What does it mean by Neighborhood Stories, you ask? Basically, Neighborhood Stories involve changes in the Sims’ lives. In this update, two major additions are added. First, life changes happen autonomously for all neighbor Sims in the world, with or without relationships to the active household. The Sims that you do not play with can experience different life stories like adoption of children or pets (requires Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack), becoming pregnant from their partner,
enter a career or resign from it, or retire for elders, move in and move out of houses or die from various causes (eg. accidents, old age, etc).
Thank you The Sims for this new addition!
Second, players have the option to configure in enabling the Neighborhood Stories or not, meaning one can choose which families can experience these autonomous changes.
♥ Grace
All these life changes happen simultaneously as you are playing your active household (if you choose to configure life changes to neighbor Sims). Head out and check more details about it from ea.com! To know what other Sims are up to, click on any mailbox and select “Check Recent Neighborhood Stories” interaction so you can see and track for yourself.
Happy Simming y’all!
NEW RELEASES GAME PACK MY WEDDING STORIES
Personally, I find these changes interesting and as a Sims player who is
KIT DÉCOR TO THE MAX
more into trying out and spending lots of time with gameplay, I am stoked to play and test it out every chance I get to spice things up with my Sims. I hope all of us get to enjoy this new update! 9
The release of The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories came and went in a highly anticipated but unspectacular fashion. Unfortunately, the latest addition to the Sims franchise left many loyal Simmers feeling disappointed (to say the least). It appears that the frustration of yet another broken pack has taken its toll, causing players everywhere to question the future of the popular Sims franchise.
Despite the plethora of problems that came with My Wedding Stories, there are many positive factors in the newest pack. Sure, the gameplay is a mess, but the new world of Tartosa is absolutely stunning, and it truly is every builder's dream!
With numerous bugs already present from failed pack releases of the past, it is safe to say that many players resisted the urge to run to the checkouts.
Romance coats the streets of Tartosa, and love is in the air all around. The newest world in The Sims 4 is one to admire. With breathtaking ocean views, lush green lots, and a variety of different textures and details, the small world of Tartosa will immediately steal your heart.
While EA has promised a patch to fix the seemingly endless bugs accompanying the latest game pack, some players remain unconvinced of a resolution, and many have put off purchasing the pack until it is fixed. While I cannot deny that My Stories has some significant could not resist the purchase. my Sims have been waiting wedding for over 7 years!
Wedding issues, I After all, for their
The truth is, I was not excited about a wedding pack in The Sims 4, but what sold me was the new world and gorgeous build and buy items I knew would come with this addition. Granted, I can't help but wonder if babies will follow suit in approximately 9 months! Now, THAT would be epic! A girl can dream, can't she? 10
Welcome To Tartosa:
The new world is relatively small, but this was expected with a game pack. There are 6 residential lots, 1 rental lot, and 2 community lots in Tartosa, including one already assigned as a wedding venue. The two community lots are 50x40, while the others range from 20x20 to 40x30.
Several new families can be found in the world of Tartosa as well, including playable Sims with and without houses. The Laurent family, for example, lives on Thebe Estate and consists of Arnessa Thebe, Hector Laurent, Hilary Laurent, Greta Laurent, and Jace Laurent. According to their outline, the family owns the local wedding venue, which is "the cornerstone of the wedding industry in the area." The Laurent family is also said to have started a small food stall in the village, which grew and flourished into a profitable business venture. The Markovic family can also be found in Tartosa at The Old Wood Nectary lot. This family is locally-renowned for their musical talent and are significant players in the local wedding industry. The family is comprised of Lucia, Mateo, and Tomi Markovic, and they have an interesting backstory and an even more interesting relationship with the Laurent family.
Things To Do In Sunny Tartosa With the My Wedding Stories Game Pack, players can easily occupy their time in the world of Tartosa. Along with the new venue type, Wedding Venue, players can live in Tartosa or visit on vacation. Sims can visit many romantic spots in Tartosa and are sure to fall in love with the local culture that is rich with history. It can be hard to know where and how to spend your time in such a beautiful world. Thankfully, we have a few ideas of how you can make the most of your Tartosa experience.
Seal The Deal The romantic aura that permeates the streets of T a r t o s a makes it the perfect place for a wedding proposal. 11
Take in the beautiful sights that Tartosa offers and end the day with a sunset proposal on the beach. The breathtaking backdrop and romantic lighting of the area provide an excellent opportunity for a photo shoot. Use this moment to make some memories that will last a lifetime.
Visit The Tartosa Version of Lover's Lane. Nestled in the cliffs of Tartosa, and overlooking the village below is a magnificent old tree. Known as The Lover's Tree, you reach this gem by navigating a wooden walkway that winds over and around theTartosa lagoon and waterfalls that surround the village.
might be the perfect place to pop the question.
Fill Your Belly At The Food Stalls. Similar to City L i v i n g , Tartosa has food stalls d o t t e d throughout the village streets to provide your Sims with much-needed sustenance. When exploring the world leaves your sims hungry for more, these small food stalls are the perfect answer. With an extensive menu of food to choose from, there is sure to be something that will appease your appetite.
Take a Dip. With large waterfalls careening from sharp cliffs to meet in the center and form a swimmable lagoon, this spot is guaranteed to relax even the most h i g h - strung Sims.
This large, impressive tree stands on the edge of a cliff overlooking the village of Tartosa, boasting its wide trunk and thick winding branches. A closer look at the tree reveals the image of two lovers embracing. Whatever brings you to this unique spot in Tartosa, it is sure to stir up some romantic feelings within your Sims and 12
Tartosa's lagoon is not only picturesque, but it is also functional. Your Sims can take a dip to cool off or share a romantic moment underwater.
Get Married. While it may seem obvious, Tartosa truly is the perfect place to plan the wedding event
of the century. My Wedding Stories is tailored to create the ideal wedding experience. There is so much for Sims players to see and do as they prepare for their big day. From testing cakes and choosing a venue to planning your menu and hosting a reception party, you Sims will be busy building every detail of their dream wedding. While Tartosa comes with a pre-made wedding venue, there are many community options available on the gallery for you to choose from. Members of the community who purchased this pack have come out in full force to create a variety of venues that fit every theme, style, and need. Take a look and see what wonders you can find.
Returning to Tartosa. Once your wedding celebrations have ended and your Sims have returned home to the daily grind of everyday life, you may find yourself longing for the beauty and peace of Tartosa. This world, which was created to promote romance, will definitely steal your heart and have you packing your bags for a vacation or a relocation in no time. 13

It’s April and we are back with another new simmer to introduce to you. I found Kayara A.K.A Plumbit3 on Twitter and thought her small account was really inviting and refreshing. She is 21, and has been playing Sims since she was 10-years-old. Her favourite colour is Pink. She has not been on Twitter for very long, and there are not many posts made by her. She does, however, re-post a lot of community posts which is very interactive. On her YouTube channel, she has a few speed builds and CAS videos. She has also reviewed the recent wedding pack and states in her bio that she will be doing more reviews in the future! Go and follow this fellow simmer in the community and support her journey on YouTube! Plumbit3 (@Plumbit3yt) / Twitter (186) Plumbit3 - YouTube

If you’ve read SimmedUp Magazine, you’ll know that one of my favourite things about The Sims 4 is that you can mod the heck out of it. It’s easy to install the mods and the game handles mods really well. To me, modders are the celebrities, royalty and gods of the gaming world and I’m a hardcore fan-girl. Asking me to pick my favourite modder would be like asking a parent to pick a favourite child but SpinningPlumbobs is definitely at the top of my list. From updating occult's like spellcasters to creating brand new occult's like werewolves, SpinningPlumbobs mods are gamechangers. I chat with this amazing modder about how it all started and what we can look forward to.
Sue: Thank you for taking the time to talk to SimmedUp Magazine. Let’s dive right into it, who is SpinningPlumbobs? Sp: Thank you so much for this opportunity! This is a really cool resource for The Sims community, so I'm glad that I can participate in it. As for me, I'm just a small-town guy who sort of fell into this hobby and it became a lot more than I bargained for, but I'm really thankful for what it's turned into! It's taken me a little while to get used to interacting with so many people on this type of scale, but I think I'm starting to get more comfortable with it and with showing myself beyond the scope of modding. Sue: How did all this start? Sp: The truth is, I never really intended to become a modder or even thought I could accomplish what I have. I, as well as many other simmers, have used mods ever since the first discovery of the game. One day, I was really inspired by a mod I loved using and decided to open it up and see how it worked. Surprisingly, I started piecing
28
together bits of the code and realised it was something I might be able to do! Then, with the help of amazing programs like Sims4Studio, S3PE, and Blender, I taught myself the basics and it grew from there. I didn't expect to release anything significant, but after my first few projects got amazing responses, I HAD to keep going! Sue: How hard is modding really? Sp: It's hard for me to describe, but anyone creative or artistic knows that the better they get at their craft, the more critical they are of their own work and the simpler their early projects seem. To me, my first mod looks like something I could do in an afternoon, but it felt like I was learning a second language when I was making it! With every new project, I try to challenge myself to do new things and learn more about modding, with a lot of help from some amazing fellow creators. Sue: Your newest mod adds werewolves to The Sims 4 and I’ll be very honest, I’m terrified of werewolves. Yours are the scariest
I’ve seen. Where did the inspiration for this mod come from? Sp: Haha. Yeah, I anticipated those beasts would strike fear in some people's hearts. Honestly, I was a bit wary of including some of the content in that mod, but I decided the game could use a bit of edge. Werewolves were actually the most frequently-requested occults I've been asked about since I started creating! I initially considered doing a werewolf mod a couple years ago, but my CAS skills were much lesser back then and there were several aspects of the mod I just didn't feel confident attempting. Thankfully, I improved and I think the werewolf mod is my most popular and well-received mod yet! It's filled with supernatural pop culture references and inspiration from medias like The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, Being Human, etc., and I think that's
what I enjoy most; adding those little bits and pieces that fans of those things will appreciate. Sue: Do you have certain food, drinks or music you need when working on mod? Sp: I ABSOLUTELY need a diet coke and a cup of coffee within arms reach at all times when I'm modding. Otherwise, I'm useless. Lol. As for music, I'm a huge theatre nerd, so I love having musical soundtracks like Phantom of the Opera, Spring Awakening, Hamilton, etc. playing while I'm in the zone. Sue: Have you played older The Sims games and what did you like about them? Sp: Actually, my first real introduction to playing the games was with The Sims 3! I went over to a friend's place and she booted it up so we could remake ourselves and run around causing trouble in Sunset Valley. After that, I was hooked. I think I spent a week straight playing the base game with every free moment I had! I loved all the customisation, the open world, and the crazy entertaining gameplay. Also, I did technically own the Sims Makin' Magic as a kid, but before I knew about the difference between base games and expansions. Needless to say, it was completely useless without the main game and I seriously missed out on a lot of fun. Lol. Sue: Do you have a favourite mod and why do you like it so much? Sp: My essential mods in The Sims 4 are MC Command Center and UI Cheats Extension, as they are for many simmers, but as for gameplay mods... I have to say I love 20th Century Plumbob's world map 29
overrides and anything that adds more customisation and options to the game. Also, anything by Sacrificial. His mods are WILD. Sue: What other games do you enjoy playing? Sp: Oh gosh, that's a hard question. My favourite game is definitely The Sims franchise, but I also LOVE Subnautica. Anyone who knows me knows I love the ocean, but I fear it immensely, so it's the perfect combination of joy and terror. I also have a great love of Skyrim, even though I only play it occasionally. But my cousin is a VP at Bethesda, so don't tell him I said that. lol Sue: What future projects can we look forward to? Sp: I don't want to give away TOO much, but I'm actually reworking on my earlier mods to give them revamps with my new and improved skills. I've learned a TON in the last year alone, so I want to make sure my old mods keep getting better as I do. Other than that, there are some plans I have for future mods that I keep “bottled up” and I hope they'll fulfil a lot of people's wishes. ;) Sue: If you could add one thing to The Sims 4, what would it be? Sp: Hmm... If I had to choose one thing that I feel is missing from the game that would bring me a lot of joy, I'd have to say the ability to customise worlds the way we could in the previous games. I miss being able to plop a lot down anywhere on the map and add world objects in the environment. Customising the existing lots is great, but having the same configured neighbourhoods in every save gets a little monotonous.
30
Sue: How has creating these mods changed your life? Sp: Honestly, it's been such an amazing experience to not only start a hobby that I enjoy, but to be able to share it with a community of people who has been almost entirely positive and uplifting, to interact with them and hear what they like about my creations or what they'd like to see me make, and to become friends with other people who also do this, who are so kind in offering their help to me. All of those reasons made me extremely thankful that I decided to start my first mod 4 years ago. Sue: Your mods have a large fan base, does all of this attention make you nervous sometimes? Sp: While I'm so thrilled to see the outpouring of positive feedback, comments, and even videos about my content, I have to admit that it does get a little overwhelming sometimes. I wish I could talk to every person that reaches out to me, to help them, or to talk about my mods, However, balancing it with work, life, and making more content, it gets hard to juggle. Even with the limited time I have, I do scour through all of my social media and try to respond to everything. On top of that I love seeing pictures and videos of people playing with my mods, so if you've posted something, I've probably seen it! Sue: How do you deal with negative feedback and trolls? Sp: I feel lucky that I haven't gotten much negativity or trolling in my time as a modder. I tend to let things like that roll off my shoulders, because if someone needs to let off steam and vent their issues, it's their burden to deal with. Though I try to accept
constructive criticism with grace and an open mind, any disrespectful or hateful comments are easy to filter out.
can actually look quite realistic with the use of mods and CC.
Sue: What do you enjoy the most about The Sims 4?
Sue: With everything going on in the world, what small things make you happy, or what have you done to stay positive?
Sp: I think hands down, my favourite part would be create-a-sim. While the style of the game is a bit cartoony, there's something about the graphics and the way textures and lighting are handled that make things look so nice and natural when they're done well. And the game
Sp: Yes, it's true that there has been a lot of pain and suffering in the world lately and it's difficult to manage it yourself or to see how other people got through it. Therefore, I've just tried to do what I can with whatever resources I have, like
Truth be told, I think the most fun I’ve had while creating was when I was making the werewolf mod. It really tested my abilities and pushed my limits 31
educating myself on what's happening with the global health crisis or the atrocities in Ukraine, doing my part to keep myself and others healthy, and contributing to the causes I'm passionate about. Other than that, knowing that among all of the things happening in the world, something I'm creating is bringing joy to other people, and that's enough to keep me positive. Sue: Which one of your mods did you enjoy working on the most and is it also your favourite one? Sp: Truth be told, I think the most fun I've had while creating was when I was making the werewolf mod. It really tested my abilities and pushed my limits, but I'm very proud of the result. It also allowed me to venture out, because I tend to enjoy more of the lighthearted fantasy type of occult gameplay, rather than the dark and supernatural stuff. I got to explore more gritty and somewhat violent themes of being a werewolf, which was a lot of fun. However, my FAVOURITE mod I've made is definitely the Expanded Mermaids mod. The ocean and mermaids are an obsession of mine, so there's really no other choice for me. Lol. Sue: Beyond modding and The Sims, what do you hope to accomplish in life? Sp: That's such a difficult question to answer because I have so many different interests that are hard to combine, so I try to give them all equal attention in rotation. I guess my biggest goals in life are just to do things that make me and the people around me 32
happy, to put out as much joy and goodness into the world as I can, and to be the best uncle I can be to my niece and nephews. Whatever I end up doing with my life, I just hope it's artistic and fulfilling. Npt to mention, making a fortune would be nice too, I suppose. Sue: What is your biggest pet peeve? Sp: Thankfully, not a lot of things get on my nerves, but a huge annoyance for me is when I've been working on something for a long time, but I hit a brick wall and need to take a break to refresh. This goes for anything in my life, but I hate breaking a flow and interrupting my focus, even if my hyper focus is causing my brain to short out and stop working. Sue: What is the craziest mod idea you’ve ever had? Sp: Actually, it's probably the mod project I'm currently working on. I'm not quite ready to reveal it yet, but I'll just say that it involves going into a certain territory that the Sims 4 may not be able to accommodate. It's a prominent feature from a previous game that I really miss and I think the addition would add a lot of fun gameplay. Also; I once had an idea after Strangerville came out for a spy mod with disguises, gadgets, super-villains, and mystery after I played through the storyline, but it became a bit expansive for one person to do, so I set it aside for later. Maybe one day, it will resurface... ;) Sue: What is the best advice you ever got? Sp: The best advice I've ever heard is to avoid stressing about things I cannot change. It's important to take initiative
and try to fix things if they can be improved in your life or the world, but don't destroy your own happiness over something you have no control over. Simply look at what you have to work with and make the best of it. It probably sounds obvious, but it really has helped me through difficult times. Again, thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to share some things about myself with you and your readers. I just want to take a second and thank some of the amazing creators who have helped
make my mods what they are. It consistently blows me away how willing people in this community are to give each other a hand, to walk them through something, and to share their knowledge. I wouldn't be able to do half the things I can if it weren't for creators like thepancake1, MizoreYukii, frankk, my friend El, Lot51, TwistedMexi, PandaSama, Cepzid, and others who have helped me tremendously. I just can't accept the praises without also praising them.

The temperature started rising and it meant that summer was coming. Some wild rabbits, foxes, and birds started noticing the youths’ presence and they visited from time to time. As the sun rose, the breeze was arid and dry. Vincent woke up early only to discover that the camp stopped working again. “Man, why is it so hard to build a toilet? I don’t know how long we can live without a toilet. I feel so sorry that the shower is still out there in the wild”, he complained. The condition forced him to fish together with Emily while Terrence foraged around. “Ah! Someone help!!!” Chelsea exclaimed as she got bitten, but she ran away and used the first aid kit she got from the zombies some days earlier. “You probably should be careful next time. We can’t lose you even though you’re so annoying”, said Emily. As everyone returned to the camp with their lumber and food, the
50
day ended with sadness and fear in their hearts. “So it still doesn’t work?” Chelsea started her day with the question. “Nope, I don’t think so. It seems that nature is really against us. I guess we should leave again today”, said Vincent. “Let’s stay positive, guys. We have to survive here. Vincent… Do you mind if we have a little bit of private time later?” Patricia asked. “Hmm? Sure I guess…” Terrence decided to fish for the day, together with Emily and Vincent. They had to keep the whole camp fed as they never knew if anything happened to their garden. “I guess this is it. I know that I need to cheer you up, Vincent”, said Patricia. “Ehm… What…” said
Vincent as he blushed. They just had their first kiss, something that Vincent may have needed the most. “I… thought that you always liked Billy more”, asked Vincent. “Yeah, that was what I thought, but nah, you’re the one I love”, answered Patricia. They finally decided to start their relationship and announced it to the other survivors. “There we go, now it works! We get a bathroom today!” Their day started with Vincent’s cries of joy and everyone’s morale rose. “Now I’m curious if our luck stays great like this. I can’t imagine how harsh winter is without a house!” exclaimed Jefferson. “True, now that you mention it. We can only do our best for now. At least we can have a more private shower now”, said Billy. Life never showed any mercy at these sims as they had to survive the wilderness. After some hours, Vincent, Terrence, and Emily managed to make a functional bathroom even though it still had no ceiling. They even used their excess materials
to build a working toilet. However, they were still happy about it. The day ended with Vincent and Patricia flirting and kissing in the bathroom; a rather private place for that. Another normal day rolled in, but nothing unfortunate happened for the day. Everyone rejoiced and they started the day. With the spirit they already had, they did very well that day. “Do you think we need anything to be built now?” asked Vincent. “Nope, but we need a bigger camp with all these plants around”, answered Terrence. “Yeah, that’ll be nice. The plants would take quite some space. I guess we can focus on that now”, suggested Emily. “Then it’s decided. Let’s push the walls a bit further. We can also fully build the bathroom along the way. Let’s do it tomorrow so that we can get a meaningful impact here”, said Vincent. Many things happened that day and Chelsea was sloppy enough to get bitten again, so she needed to use another bottle of first aid spray. “I can’t die here. These zombies are no good”, she thought.
51
As their hard labour was done for the day, all of them went home, had dinner, and satisfaction could be seen in their eyes. “Isn’t your birthday today, Terrence?” asked Jefferson when they woke up. “It is. I can’t ask too much, can I? All we care about is getting a stable camp right here. Hey, aren’t you tired of sleeping in a tent?” asked Terrence. “Happy birthday! Yup, I guess everyone is sick of it. I kind of miss sleeping indoors now.” “Hey, thanks! That’s also a great thing to have. It’s too bad that we have to choose one now. Getting a double bed is probably better now. I think it’s just fair to let Vincent use it. Leading us must be very stressful.” The day started with everyone congratulating Patricia and Terrence for their birthdays, but nope, they had no celebration of any kind as food is still a big concern for them. “I don’t know what happened to me today, Vincent. I know that I’ve helped you build, but somehow I’m not doing all that well”, said Terrence. “You and Emily are helping me around these times, but now you’re on your own. Don’t sweat it, buddy, I’m sure that both of you can catch up very quickly”, cheered Vincent.
52
we need to work on it tonight”, said Vincent. Just like any other day, they worked so hard so that they could have a much better life. “Wake up, Chelsea. You know that this is a special day for us, right?” said Emily. “”Uh, what? Oh… It’s our birthday. Billy’s too…”, said Chelsea. “Hey, be a little bit excited! It’s true that we share the same birthday so let’s celebrate it.” “Well, no party, no cakes even. Don’t say that we’re going to eat those dull grilled plantains and apples again.” “Well, duh, what do you expect from this camp? At least we aren’t hungry now. Yeah, it gets old I know.” As the sun rose, they worked hard as usual. These youngsters never got any day off since any mistakes could mean death for them. The girls grew up into beautiful teenagers and they were ready to work as hard as adults. They worked hard that day and Vincent asked everyone to gather for a meeting that night while Billy cooked dinner. “I think this is the right time for this”, he said. “What do you mean? Did I miss anything?” asked Billy. “Does it ring a bell if I show you this ring?”
“I’m thinking about moving the plants on one side. I think it’ll save a lot of space”, suggested Emily.
“Yes, you’ve worked so hard during your breaks on that- Hey! Wait a minute!”
“That’s a wonderful idea! Alright,
“Is it…” Patricia mumbled.
“Yes, it’s for you. I think it’s a great time to get engaged.” “Ah, you’re so sweet, Vincent.” “More trees are gone on my birthday? Why mother nature!?” Jefferson started his day with a complaint. “You need to grow up, Jeff. We aren’t children anymore at this point”, said Terrence. “Well, I’m still a child at heart and there’s no one who can change that. It doesn’t mean that I’m ignoring my duties.” “Sure, whatever. By the way, you need to adapt to the workload as adults. It’s harder than I thought it should be.”
“Sounds good for me”, said Chelsea “But seems like it’ll take a long, long time to finish with this simpower”, said Patricia. “Hey, we only need to do it once. I think it’s a good investment. Vincent, you should take the first bed, you too Pat”, said Emily. “Alright, if you wish…” said Vincent. Their discussion ended and as they finished their dinner, they retired to their own tents. Billy had trouble sleeping that night. Everyone wondered what was wrong with him… To be continued…
“Really? Then I mustn’t underestimate that” Cool air started embracing the camp that day. The temperature started dropping as they worked. The leaves turned red and autumn is coming. “I’m glad that all of us are doing well. I hope that we can store some food for winter. Terrence, I’ve left the garden in your care, right? Please make sure to save a lot for winter as the crops probably go dormant”, asked Vincent.

“Yes, I can do that. I wish that we can have a canning station so that they last longer and taste way better”, said Terrence. “That’s a wonderful idea! However, we probably need to sleep indoors so that none of us will catch a cold. That isn’t our priority now”, said Billy. “That’s right. I think a good night’s sleep is more important now. Let’s hoard for beds”, said Vincent.

Growing Up in the World of Sims Children in The Sims have differed quite a lot over the years, from the original The Sims up to The Sims 4. It’s interesting how, looking at all four incarnations of the game, children started out, for example, not being able to gain any skill points in the original The Sims, to TS2 where they could gain skills in almost everything. In TS3 their skills were limited and to the present day of TS4, their skills are basically hidden until they become teenagers.
Games and Behaviours Although your sims could not visit other homes in The Sims 1, sometimes other children would come over to play. If your child saw another child on the sidewalk, for example, they could greet and invite them inside. The visiting child would stay until either their needs got too low, or if it got too late, one of their parents would come to take them home.
The Sims 1
Children would be able to play Rock Paper Scissors with other children and also play tag with pets if Unleashed is installed.
During the original The Sims years, Sim children were very limited in what they were able to do, compared to future The Sims games.
Children could also be quite mean by, scaring, taunting, and insulting each other, even kicking other Sims!
School Every day was the same in The Sims as weekdays and weekends were not ingame. Therefore, children went to school every day, 7 days a week from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. If a child missed a day of school, their grades would go down, and if their grades dropped very low and for a long period of time, they could be sent to military school, never to be seen again! Of course, with the release of the Vacation expansion pack, Sims could go on holiday, thereby giving them time off from work and school.
57
Skills Although children in the original The Sims could not gain skill points, they could use certain objects such as the easel, for example, to paint and sell their paintings, once completed. They could also use objects to gain fun, such as the Beziques Folly Card game (rather like charades), the toy box, television, and SSRI Virtual Reality Set, to name just a few.
doorstep for free as a gift. This included a “Hole in the Ground” whereby sims could “jump in” and visit Magic Town. This also allowed children to leave the lot and travel on their own, which was previously impossible without being accompanied by an adult.
Natural ageing didn’t come into play in The Sims until TS2 so children never grew up. The only “growing up” in the original Sims was from a baby to a child. With the release of Makin’ Magic, however, the last expansion pack for the original The Sims, children could learn magic and perform the “Age of Instant” spell, enabling them to grow from a child to an adult. However, as genetics did not play a part in The Sims at this point, the grown-up child would look nothing like his or her parents! Again, with the release of Makin’ Magic, the Mystery Man would deliver a box of magical goodies to your

Other Activities Children in The Sims 1 could go fishing but only by “joining” an adult Sim. The only gardening that they could do was to water the plants, including houseplants which also needed to be watered in the original The Sims!

Help with homework
The Sims 2 With the release of The Sims 2 in 2004, ”Playing with Life” was a whole new ball game! Life stages were introduced into The Sims whereby sims would age up naturally. The player could hold a birthday party by buying a birthday cake from buy mode and inviting guests. Once the candles were blown out on the birthday cake, the sim would age up. Not only did we have babies and children but also toddlers were added so that babies aged up to toddlers and then children as opposed to babies ageing up straight away into children. Other life stages included teen, adult, and elder and while the release of the University expansion pack, the young adult life stage was added to the game.
Genetics also came into play in The Sims 2 so that when Sims aged up, they would look like their parents and, if they had siblings, they would all have a family likeness.
School Children in The Sims 2 could do so much more than they could in The Sims 1. With the addition of weekdays and weekends, children went to school Mondays to Fridays from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm, enjoying weekends off. However, homework was given to children every day which they would have to complete before the next school day. Children could ask their parents to “Help with Homework” or the parents could offer to
59
help, thereby getting the homework done a lot more quickly.
and meet them and invite them in for tea and/or play.
Also, at the end of every school day, the child would bring back a school report card which they would glance at when they got off the school bus coming home. If their grade wasn’t that great, they would put the report card back in their pocket and saunter back into the house. However, if their grade was high, such as an A, the child would run into the house waving the
Children also had the chance to enter Private School. An older Sim would make a telephone call to invite a Headmaster over for dinner. During the meeting, the Headmaster would be given a tour of the house and then a nice meal and conversation. If all went
report card and, shouting, and jumping up and down in glee to the nearest adult or teen who would then cheer them for their successful grade. Sometimes, the children would bring home friends from school who would get off the bus with them. As The Sims 2 did not allow sims to visit others’ homes (which only came into effect in The Sims 3), this was great for having friends to tea, getting to know them better, and playing games. Of course, if a child was seen walking on the sidewalk, your playable Sim could go
60
well, the Headmaster would allow your children to attend Private School. Children who attended this school would wear smart uniforms instead of everyday wear when going to school..
Games and Behaviours Children could have fun with objects such as playing the chess table or watching television together. Playing video games on the television via the consul allowed two children to play together and build their relationship. Other games such as Mary Mack, Tag, and Cops ‘N’ Robbers were great fun for the kids and as well as for the
player to watch! Peek-a-Boo was another game that was added for toddlers. Children and older could sit on the floor in front of the toddler and play this game, building their relationship whilst doing so. Again this was great fun and the children would laugh and chuckle, thoroughly enjoying themselves! If a child was awake when a parent got home from work, they would run to greet their parent, waving and smiling, which was such a cute addition to the
Skills Children could also learn skills in The Sims 2, which was a great addition to the game. These skills would help them in later years when going to work, and with the addition of the University expansion pack, would allow them to gain scholarships for entering University. Although children couldn’t cook on a normal stove, the Bakers Oven, made specifically for children, allowed kids to bake cakes and gain cooking skill points. Watching the cookery channel on TV also gave them cooking skill points.
game. Children cannot go out to a community lot alone; they must be accompanied by any older household members. A child Sim would have a favourite meal and you could find out what this was by looking at the icon above their head when they were seated at a table in a restaurant. This favourite dish was random and would be their favourite meal for the rest of their life.
The mechanical skill could only be learned by reading a book. However, if the Trauma Time Incision Precision Training Station career reward was available then children could watch an older Sim use the object and would gain mechanical skill points in this way. Charisma could usually only be gained
61
by practising romance or a speech in the mirror. As this interaction is not available for children, the I Object Litigator or Enterprise Office Concepts Bushmaster TelePrompter career rewards can be used by children, helping them gain charisma skill points. Likewise, the Execuputter could also be used by children to gain charisma. The body skill could be learned by either swimming or using the Selflog Obstacle Course career reward if available or by reading a body skill book from the Books First for Learning Bookshelf, also a career reward object. Logic was gained by playing chess and creativity was learned by either painting on an easel or playing the piano. The cleaning skill was gained by either
reading a book or using the Prints Charming Scanner, another career reward object. Other Activities Children can also garden in The Sims 2 by fertilising the soil, planting seeds, and watering plants. They can also go fishing and if two Sims fish together, they can gradually build their relationship with each other and also build their nature hobby enthusiasm. With the release of the last expansion pack for The Sims 2, Apartment Life, butlers, landlords, and witches were added to the game. However, unlike The Sims 1, children in The Sims 2 could not learn magic and this has continued to be the case for future The Sims games.

The Sims 3
The Sims 3 shipped with an open world, which had its pros and cons! This was a first for The Sims franchise and was the main advertisement for the game. As in The Sims 1 after the release of Makin’ Magic, children could now go out alone to community lots or visit Sims at home. This was great for meeting other child Sims and also buying items such as books and ice cream! However, there was a curfew put in place for 10:00 pm so if your child Sim was out and about at 9:00 pm, the player would get a message to say that the child should make their way back home or look for an adult!
School As in the previous Sims games, a school bus would come and pick your child up
at 8:00 am, school being from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Mondays to Fridays. Again, children would get homework which they would have to complete by the next school day. As in TS2, weekends were free time to enable the child to either complete homework, learn skills, or just have fun! Whilst on the bus going to school, a drop-down would be available (just as when an older Sim is going to work) to enable the player to choose how the child should behave in school. The options included “Normal Effort”, “Work Hard”, “Slack off”, “Meet New Friends” and “Talk to Friends”. The option the player chose could be changed at any time. If a child hasn’t finished their homework then the option for “Finish Late Homework” would appear, allowing the child to finish the homework on the school bus and/or school. Once done, the option would default to “Normal Effort” until the player changed it.
63
Homework could also be done with other children, either friends or siblings, which would allow the homework to be done much more quickly than if done alone. Older Sims could also “Help with Homework”, again allowing the child to complete the job much more quickly. With the release of the Generations expansion pack, after-school activities became available in the form of ballet and scouting. Children could also be sent away to boarding schools, such as the prestigious Smuggsworth Prep School. Games and Behaviours As in previous The Sims games, a toy box was available for children which contained items for the child to play with. Children could also watch TV, play chess, and also play computer games,
64
either by themselves or with others. With the addition of the Generations expansion pack, an imaginary friend was added to the game which was not to everyone’s taste! This was a doll that the child received when born, supposedly from a distant relative. This doll could be interacted with and if a close bond was formed, could turn into a real Sim. Children could also dress up with a dressing-up box, pretend to drive a car whilst sitting on a seat with a hard hat and goggles, set booby traps, and check for monsters under the bed Certain behaviours in a child Sims life would allow a lifetime aspiration to appear. For example, if a child was allowing a unicorn to sniff their hand,
they might get a lifetime aspiration in their “wants” section of the UI to be a “Fairytale Finder”, which was basically to adopt a unicorn. It was up to you, the player, if you wanted to lock in that lifetime aspiration or wait for a new one. As in The Sims 2, children in TS3 would also have a favourite meal, colour, and music genre. This was automatically generated when the sim was born ingame, but their favourites were chosen by the player when the Sim is created in CAS.
Charisma or Handiness (Mechanical in previous games), nor could they learn the athletic skill. They could, however, go swimming and work out via the radio or TV which would earn them hidden skill points. These would show up as proper skills once they grew into a teenager. Playing chess would earn them the logic skill and they could also take a class in logic at the Science Lab to gain more skill points.
There were quite a few skills in The Sims 3 with new skill-learning items having been sold in The Sims 3 Store. However, I will just be covering what skills children could learn based on the basevgame and the expansion and game packs.
Children in The Sims 3 could also learn the inventing skill. Inventing on the crafting bench, digging through items at the junkyard, and taking a class in inventing would all go towards earning skill points. However, children would have to wait until they became a Young Adult before they could use the Detonation Packs!
Skills for children were more limited in TS3 than in TS2. Children couldn’t learn

As with previous Sims games, painting can be learned via painting on the easel, giving skill points and children could also go to a painting class held at the local school.
Other Activities Children cannot garden in The Sims 3 but they can go fishing and also take a fishing
class at the grocery store to improve their skill and earn skill points. As you can see, there are a few similarities between games where children are concerned but I think that what children can and cannot do has changed quite a lot over the years, especially with regards to skills. I love the fact that we now have children cooking with adultsand being able to garden again, as they did in The Sims 2.

Off Topic From Roleplaying Games to Dungeons & Dragons Written by Nitras.
Greetings, traveler! My name is Nitras and I have been addicted to Dungeons & Dragons for the last 2 years. To delve further into this, I dare say an introduction is in order. What’s a better way to introduce myself than with games. You see, I have always had a massive interest in RPGs (RPG stands for RolePlaying Games). I’ve Been a massive fan of Bioware’s powerhouses, such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect, as well as the more RPG-heavy classics like Neverwinter Nights and Baldur’s gate. In recent years, I have been so fond of, among others, titles like Pathfinder, Pillars of Eternity, and hardly surprising, also the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3. Now, games like these are incredible for the story they tell, whether you are more into Sci-fi Fantasy or more
70
into the whole Might & Magic setting. However, I often found the story lacking, not because it was not brilliant, but because the story was bound by the game's core writing, more so than my imagination. My favourite thing was to create characters with sophisticated backgrounds, but these backgrounds would typically have next to no impact throughout the story of the game. So – What do all of these have to do with Dungeons & Dragons? Easy, you tell a story of your own. A story that you can shape and form as you wish, and more so than that, it is a story you shape with people around you. To delve into this story aspect, let us go over the basics of what Dungeons & Dragons is; Is it merely a nerdy game that is played by young men in a basement under the cover of night? Well, in recent years, platforms like Twitch and YouTube are growing in size, especially in regards to a gaming and role-playing aspect; it brings with it an interest in Dungeons & Dragons. Myself, since my first experience, have become a massive Critter. That being a fan of the channel “Critical

Role”, in which a group of voice actors gathers somewhat weekly, playing their own games. Watching their sessions is also a really good way of getting a taste of what Dungeons and Dragons are, so from me, this would be a high recommendation.
In Dungeons and Dragons, there are multiple ways to tell your story. If you prefer a shorter story, the choice of a one-shot, which is a singular session, or a shorter campaign might be the solution. If this catches your interest, you can always
71
delve into a longer campaign from there. In my own experience, to start with a shorter campaign, in which there are even pre-written options available in sourcebooks and the like, is a wonderful tool to both see if you like the setting and to get a proper introduction to the game. For everyone to be on the same page, I should probably delve into the core rules; which yes, there are rules. These help to define what can and cannot be done. At the same time, it works as an aid to new players and serves as a baseline for which characters, both player characters and NPC’s are created, controlled, and limited. To explain it a little further, as may be knowledge to most, a Dungeons and Dragons setting consists of a group of players as well as a Dungeon Master. The players are the ones responsible for telling the story through a character they have created. Their characters have different strengths and weaknesses as well as different personalities, backgrounds, and traits. The Dungeon Master's role is vastly different, since the Dungeon Master is the one who sets the theme as well as the boundaries for the world, in which the players operate. Through these tools, the Dungeon Master has a vast influence on the story being told, even though the players always have the option to stray from the path laid out to them. That is one of the (in my opinion), most brilliant things about Dungeons & Dragons. Now, it is a rather well-known fact, that the Dungeon Master role is a lot heavier than the average player. Heavier in the way,
72
that they are the ones responsible for maps, stories, rules, and the like. Nevertheless, this is not necessarily the truth. I have personally found that my players can function as a group well and roleplay a bit in between themselves, it eases a lot of my burden as the Dungeon Master. I suggest taking the Dungeon Master role is nothing to be scared about for this very reason. Further information in regard to the different aspects of Dungeons & Dragons can be found in the sourcebooks of the player’s handbook for Dungeons & Dragons as well as the Dungeon Master’s Guide. These two will explain thoroughly, the core aspects of both the players, as well as the Dungeon Master. So, how does one find a game of Dungeons & Dragons? Well, the most important thing is to find someone willing to be the Dungeon Master. Once you have that, gather some friends and create your characters. Although I’d advise a core understanding of the rules and guidelines of traditional Dungeons & Dragons, it is not necessarily needed. What I have found in regard to playing the game, which is the main rule, is to have fun. All other rules come second to that. This article is part 1 in several of the same type that will lightly explore both my own experiences with Dungeons & Dragons as well as what I find to be the core basics. My hopes are that these could possibly spark an interest with people of the same mind. But until then, signing off. :)

Welcome to SimmedUp Magazine, please tell us and our readers a little bit about you, your name, where you are from, your star sign, any pet peeves, hobbies you have, and anything else that comes to mind! Who are you outside of The Sims? Hello everyone! My name is Aydan or Semplice and I am a teenager from Australia. I am an Aquarius baby, even though I know nothing about star signs, and love all things the Sims. Other than playing video games, I love learning new things, cooking, and animals. I love interacting with new people and also creating content! When I decided to make my first Sims Twitter post, it was probably one of the best decisions of my life, I am so happy that I pressed ‘post’ because I have made so many new friends, done some amazing things, and been able to take part in awesome creations like this interview! If you had to describe yourself in three Sims traits, what would they be and why? I would have to say that my three traits would be Clumsy, Outgoing and Lazy. I will start with why I picked these three with the last one. As much as some people hate to admit it, everyone has their bad traits. I tend to procrastinate everything and give up very easily, I would much rather eat and sleep then actually do something productive. I know that sounds so bad but oh well!! As for Clumsy, I always find myself hurting myself when doing the basics of tasks. The other day, I was just walking down the corridor and somehow I stubbed my toe…. Don’t even ask haha. And for outgoing? I love talking to people and
being loud and out there is nothing new for me, I am always told to keep it to myself or calm down a bit when having a conversation. Let’s talk a little about the past year, how was 2021 like for you? Have you achieved everything you had planned for it, were there any curve-balls and obstacles, or was it mostly a smooth ride? I would have to start off by saying that 2021 was a crazy year! After what was 2020 I did not really have any idea where the world would go and so I don’t think I really set myself any goals or planned for much! I basically just wanted to get through all the lock-downs and school. Here in Australia, a constant obstacle in trying to get through a ‘normal’ day was all the lock-downs! The state I am in, I was in 7 different lockdowns across the year and that was just a pain, never knowing what to expect, and always having to change plans. However, closer to the end of the year when I started my Twitter and Twitch, all I wanted was to have at least one person looking at the work I am posting and I am so glad I have a platform that I am so proud of! Please tell us how your Sims journey started, when and how did you start playing the Sims and why? I remember it was a Christmas party in 2020, Covid restrictions had eased in Australia and all of my friends were having a nice lunch at another friend's house! After lunch, some people were leaving. I saw that my friend had a gaming PC and I was always curious about computers so I asked if I could go
77
on it! They said yes and one of the games they had there was The Sims 4 and so I clicked it and started playing. From that moment on I wanted to play The Sims on a gaming PC just like theirs. So when my birthday came in February I bought a decent computer so I could play The Sims! I would say I am very new to the game, barely a year of knowing that The Sims existed, but I am so glad I found it! Your builds and sims are always so detailed, on average, how long does it take you to create one, which one took the longest, and which is your favorite? Well it really depends on the sims and/or build doesn’t it?! An average sim that I want to post on Twitter or share with everyone can take anywhere between 10 minutes and literally a whole hour! I remember I spent nearly 3 hours making one sim on a stream once, but she turned out amazing! And as for a build, well geez… once again it really depends on how big and detailed the build is! Where do you find the inspiration for your creations? Most of the time, I might be looking at other creators' content and feel super inspired by the amazing stuff other people make, but some other times it might be me just playing the game and
78
realizing I do not have one of the things I want, so I might try to make it! If EA was creating a wish list by sending out a huge survey to all The Sims players asking them what they want to be added to the game during 2022, what would you say? What is a major element that is missing in the game for you? See I do not think I am one of those people that are begging for new things all the time, I think I am quite happy with what we have in the game, of course, that does not mean that I do not want anything else or do not want things to be fixed! I of course do love gameplay and building, but Create-A-Sim is my favorite Now a little bit of a controversial topic, what do you think about all the new kits that have been added to the game? Where do you think EA is going with the new kit system? Do you think there is a better way to add more content to the game? Ahhh kits!!! They are very controversial in The Sims community for a good reason. Personally, I am happy to pay for some really good niche-quality content (even though I wish they were even cheaper), but I know heaps of people do not like them. Since they are so certain-themed and particular to one who plays
“Looking back, I would have done so many things differently; but at the time, it was groundbreaking for me!” 80
81
the game, it does not matter if you have all the kits or not! So, I do not know why people are super against them as no one is making you buy them! On the other hand, I also would not complain if kits never existed and we got small amounts of content in free updates like the new Sims delivery drops! How did you start on your CCmaking journey for The Sims? I always looked up to certain creators before I started creating my own custom content; I always told myself one day that I wanted to be like them! One day I joined a Discord server for CC creators which has a billion and one links to videos and written tutorials all over the internet about how to create different types of CC. From there I watched many videos and experimented in Photoshop and Blender until I created my first skin blend. Looking back, I would have done so many things differently; but at the time, it was groundbreaking for me! I released it and since that time, I had been expanding my skills and learning more about different types of CC and how to perfect my skills! Your CC is primarily focused on the creation of hair in The Sims 4 at the moment. Was that your intention when you started creating CC and what creations can we expect from you in the future? I started off with the basics when I was learning how to create CC for he game like makeup and skin details, but my dream has always
82
been to create hair and clothing. Almost every day I am trying to expand my skills and learn more so I can be the best CC creator I can be. My goal with my CC is still to have a wide range of a heap of things! I would love to create more makeup and skin details but I am also looking forward to making more hair and clothing items for everyone to have! We can imagine creating CC can be very time-consuming. What do you do to unwind and relax, to avoid the creative block? When you are always trying to create new CC and play around with different
84
ideas, you can lose motivation and start to procrastinate a lot. To avoid feeling burnt out, I usually just simply stop creating. I do not want to force myself to do something I do not feel like doing. I can always come back to it later when I feel motivated again! Are there any other games you play apart from Sims 4? If so, what attracted you to them and what makes them enjoyable? To be honest, I used to only play sims; it was the only thing on my entire gaming PC! However only in the last couple of months, I have really gotten into games like City Skylines which I love
85
a lot! I love being able to control everything, kind of like The Sims, but in this case a whole city! I also enjoy games like Fortnite and GTA V, some fun actionpacked games are a big change to Sims but still a heap of fun! Nevertheless, most of the time, it's really only The Sims, which I do not know if that's good or bad! Are you part of any Sims communities on any of the social media platforms or offline? What makes those communities great? I am a part of a few Sims-related Discord servers actually! They are so much fun and a really good way to connect easily with other creators and Sims fans alike. I have not only been able to talk to friends on Discord, but also to make new ones as well. I think Discord is such an amazing place to very easily connect with other people like you! My favourite build is this crazy nightclub I built during the time when roof manipulation was added during a patch update. It was my failed attempt at building a chicken hut restaurant. It ended up with an Egyptian style shape and I decided to then make a Egyptian-Arabic-themed nightclub with a spa as well. Each floor has a swimming pool. BudgieFlitter
Hi there! I'm Budgie, a hobbyist artist from Russia! Art has always been my passion and my main creative outlet. When I'm not drawing, I enjoy gaming and studying languages. I fell in love with The Sims ever since I was 8 when I borrowed The Sims Pet Stories disc from my friend. Thanks to my tech-savvy older brother, I got to enjoy other Sims games, but The Sims 2 definitely won my heart! I am truly fascinated with the stories the developers created for the game, for how much love and care they put into it. I prefer media which doesn't give me much info on the characters - this way, I can have my creative freedom burst out; and The Sims characters are exactly what I needed! Even though I have been a fan for a long time, I didn't start drawing fan art until the spring of 2021. The main influence for me was finding an audience with whom I can share my art, and little did I know that Tumblr has such a massive Sims community! Each and every neighborhood has a special place in my heart, but mostly I enjoy drawing Strangetown and Veronaville, as well as some less popular hoods such as Riverblossom Hills and the university subhoods. Lately, I've also been very invested in spin-offs like The Urbz - for its unique and amazing characters. I have tons and tons of ideas for The Sims fanart I have yet to make into reality, so I'm not stopping anytime soon!

OUT NOW
Simmer Jet
Titan Architect
Simmer Jet has been on my radar for some time now. His YouTube videos are addictive, relaxing, well done, a joy to watch, and he has some serious building talents: from a Scandinavian colony to a post-apocalypse settlement, he builds them all. Let’s get to know this creative builder better. Sue: How do you find inspiration for your builds? SJ: Well, my sources are unlimited to be honest, from walking on the streets of Madrid (the place I live) to remembering all the trips I’ve done. However the majority has come from my dreams, for some reason, I always dream a lot. It has worked before even with my life in general or with the novel I wrote: I dreamed of the characters until the plot of the novel.
Sue: We only see the sped-up versions of your builds, so how much time does it really take to complete a build? SJ: Wow, hahaha, this is a tricky one; in the beginning, it took me FOREVER! However, now it’s a little bit faster; in a small build can be like 2 or 3 days (I have a regular
job, so my time is limited) and for the big ones, like the Scandinavian Colony or The 1 million simoleon house, each took me 2 weeks. After that, I get the video! That’s a completely different story! XD
Sue: Who is Simmer Jet and what does your family think about your online life? SJ: I’m a regular guy to be honest, like hang out with my friend (when I have time), love old music (my favourite singer is Frank Sinatra), I’m a professional Graphic Designer (I design everything on my YouTube channel and social media), I used to be a model, and I’m a really outgoing person but very reserved with my personal things. My family supports me in this journey, my #1 fan is my mom, she always watches my videos, and it’s super cute! We live in 111
different countries and our time zone is super different too, but she is always aware to watch them all.
Sue: What do you love and what would you change about The Sims 4? SJ: I totally love the graphics in TS4. The aesthetics of the worlds are amazing, the build/buy modes are great, even though I will add something simmers have been asking for, from cars and rounded walls for build mode to better babies for gameplay; I think the core of the Sim’s personality is not quite enough to give them “really different personalities”. They feel kinda plain, and that comes from a person which don’t use live mode as much as build mode, soooo I can’t imagine simmers who need to make series, machinimas, or things that need live mode. I’m saying this from the respect zone, but EA should listen a little bit better to simmers’ needs. In the end, we love The Sims, and we want it to be the best game possible because we are faithful and we will continue being there in all The Sims games which are to come.
112
Last but not least, they need to make The Sims Gallery better! Hahaha, it’s not exactly the best way to share your content XD.
Sue: What other games do you play and what new games are you looking forward to? SJ: I love building games, as you can imagine, hahaha. I like playing Planet Zoo, Cities Skylines, and SimCity. On top of that, coming from my kid’s heart I play Need For Speed, Hitman, Jurassic Park Evolution, and Diablo III. About the game I’m looking forward, I hope to play Paralives; the game intrigues me a lot! I’m not a big fan of their kind of graphics but, they have a lot of things that I really want to try in build mode.
Sue: What are your favourite kinds of builds? SJ: To be honest, I don’t have a specific love for a kind of build. I really enjoy all of them, from the modern Big Mansion
“I’m saying this from the respect zone, but EA should be listening a little bit better to simmers needs”

like the Luxury Baxter Mansion or classical shape of the Vanderville Mansion, the one-million-dollar mansion, to the small houses like the Base Game starter house or the Post-Apocalyptic Settlement. I used to love making big houses, but I fell in love for the small ones too. I usually make my houses for Sims in my mind and try to give them a story as well as what I think they will enjoy the most. Sound kind of crazy, but it helps me to make the builds more alive. For me it’s not just architecture to be shown or gain some followers, but a live piece of art I want for my sims and most importantly, OTHER SIMMERS’ SIMS really enjoy.
Sue: What are your gaming goals? SJ: To be honest, I just want to give other Simmers satisfying houses their sims can live happily ever after.
Sue: Which Simmer would you like to collaborate with on a project and why? SJ: Wow, this is a tough one! I have a loooot of Simmers I wanna collaborate with. In Spanish, I would love to collaborate with Mprin and SraSimmer as I’m a big fan of them both. If some of you speak Spanish, you are the perfect choice to enjoy The Sims, Mprin has the best content when it comes to opinions, reviews, content, I just love him! And SraSimmer, OMG I’m kinda obsessed with her series, she has a talent to tell stories that is out of this world! Totally love her.
In English, well, I would say Mr.Olkan, Kate Emerald, lilsimsie, SatiSimsBuilds, KawaiiFoxita, and The English Simmer! Love them all! They are super talented, creative, and nice, which mean that it would be a total honour to be in a collaboration with them!
Sue: Do you just play The Sims 4 and do you use mods? SJ: Yes, I have my personal gameplay and my crazy stories of drama, hahahaha, I do use mods, like Slice of Life, MCCC, WickedWhims (not the super-sex part, hahaha, but it includes something that really changes the sims’ personalities and the way they interact with other sims; like decide to go for a baby without the need of my permission.), and others to give the game more depth.
Sue: Do you sometimes feel pressured to create and how do you keep it fun? SJ: Yes, when I feel that I’m not making enough builds to upload on YouTube and satisfying my followers I start to feel that I’m disappointing them all. But, after that I remember and tell myself: well, everyone understands that you do a lot of things, and if they are really interested in your creation, they will be there always no matter what, even if you don’t upload builds every week. Because their love and support are sincere, that helps me to keep up the fun. And I have tried some challenges that make the fun high too, like the Michelle Dillman Craft (on Facebook) or
117
PatsuanT (on Twitter)
Sue: Which social media platform do you think works the best for Simmers who want to share what they create? SJ: This is my personal opinion, but I think Twitter is the best place to share because The Sims community is really big as well as supportive, and well, in my case, YouTube, of course. However, to be honest everything started on Twitter for me!
Sue: SimmedUp’s Granny Ruth loves to cook, what is your favourite meal and do you like to cook? SJ: I loooove cooking! I feel super free and relaxed in the kitchen. My mom used to teach me how she cooked when I was a little boy; she always said: someday you are going to be far, living on your own, and I’m not going to be there to make your food, so at least you will never go to bed without a good food in your belly! My favourite food is pizza! Hahahah, not too healthy, but I love it!
Sue: What do you enjoy the most about making YouTube videos and how did it all start? SJ: I love to tell stories. I know it’s kind of hard telling stories with a build, but at least I try! The other thing I love about making YouTube videos is the comments on the videos, Simmers are
118
amazing! All that love inspires me to get better and better every day! Everything started during quarantine; I started making a lot of houses because I had a lot of time in my hands, and uploading to the gallery. It was really funny because I did that in Spanish, which is my native language but Simmers started to comment in English, so as I speak English too, I replied them in English. After that I tried to upload the builds on Twitter and everything changed from there on, Simmers started to interact a lot with me, and some of them asked me if I had a YouTube channel, so I decided to make one. That idea has been in my mind for a long time, but I wanted to do it with something I really love, not for money, but to show the world what I really love, and that's The Sims and architecture. Sue: Which parts of your culture would you like to see more in The Sims 4? SJ: To be honest, I just wish that The Sims team make collaborations with Spanish-speaking creators; that’s all I want. SimGuruRusskii is from Venezuela, like me! So, I hope that she puts some pressure on the team to collaborate with more Latino’s, including me of course haha! I hope that they can see that it is not necessary to be super famous in The Sims community; in order to have talent, I know a lot of not famous but SUPER talented Simmers in this community, sometimes I feel they just see the famous simmers, and that’s not a bad thing, because I admire them

too, but I think collaboration with small creators would be great too!
Sue: What is the one thing you like the most about The Sims community? SJ: The support and love they have shown to the small creators like me; that’s what I love the most as it’s like a big family, they are always trying to make you feel welcome and be a part of the big river that is Sims Content Creators.

I think we can all agree that The Sims is a highly addictive game. Whether you enjoy playing multiple generations, are hooked on the various challenges that circulate through the community, or even enjoy the game's darker side, it is easy to lose hours, or even days, once those loading screens appear. There is no better way to escape reality than in The Sims, and for some players, this happens in build mode. I can get lost for days building almost anything in The Sims, especially with the amazing mods available for building, such as T.O.O.L. by Twisted Mexi. This mod allows you to manipulate in-game objects in ways you usually can't. Still, building in The Sims 4 can be difficult with or without mods, and many people complain that the houses they create look like decorated shoeboxes. Thankfully, this brief tutorial will help you to get started and release your creative inner beasts.
Building 101. If you are brand new to building in The Sims, there are so many tools already built in the game that can help you succeed. In fact, the game has everything you need to create the perfect home for your sims right there waiting for you.
Pre-made Rooms and Houses. Luckily, The Sims 4 build mode is beginnerfriendly. There are a ton of options to help you create your dream home, including premade rooms. When you first enter build mode, you are presented with an image of a house on the left side of the screen. This small image has everything you need to build your home in The Sims. Clicking on each section of the house will bring up the corresponding build items. Clicking the roof, for example, will bring up all of the available roof styles, and clicking on the door will show you all the available doors. Next to the house, there is a picture of a room with a chair, table, and lamp. Clicking
on this room will reveal all the pre-made rooms within the game. You have the option to add empty rooms or rooms that have been designed for you. These pre-made spaces are sorted by purpose
and range from living and bedrooms to miscellaneous rooms. Explore these pre-made rooms to get ideas for your design, or throw one down if you are not into decorating a space yourself. The small images and pre-made items are helpful when you first start building, and I suggest using them for ideas and inspiration. When viewing a pre-made room in The Sims 4, you can select specific items from that room to place in your build or use the entire space if you wish. Getting Started. Once you are ready to begin building your Sims dream home, it can be difficult to know where to start. As explained, a lot of people build houses that are just plain squares and end up looking like a shoe box with windows. Look at floorplans and study the homes in your neighborhood to understand what your Sims house needs. Although houses in real life can be wonky in The Sims or challenging to replicate due to game restrictions, they give you a starting point. Even after years of building, many people still utilize floor plans for inspiration and guidance. I suggest starting with a simple box – a square or rectangle – and adding small bump-outs on the front, back, and sides to add depth and realism. A few wellplaced bump-outs can quickly take a home from drab to fab .
The Perfect Layout. Creating the floor plan for your build can be daunting. Even expert Simmers struggle when placing rooms and drawing out floor plans. Once again, using a reference image can help with this process by giving you a general idea of the areas required. I suggest thinking about the essential rooms as you add bump-outs to your box. You will save yourself time, energy, and frustration by preplanning the design. Pro Building Tip: Remember to think about where you will place the stairs early on in the process if you are creating a multi-level home. So many times, I have created the floor plan for the main level only to discover that my stairs placement makes the upper level impossible to shape and layout. Make sure that you have both floors laid out the way you like before you begin to decorate to save yourself from disappointment.
Roofing. I had done short roofing tutorials in past issues, and I will not get into it here. I am planning to create an in-depth roofing tutorial in the coming months. However, I will share a bit of advice with you about roofing. 1. Practice, practice, practice – Roofing is one of the most challenging aspects of building in The Sims 4, and
sadly, there are very few shortcuts.
yourself. There are many sites and builds out there to inspire you. Seek them out. When I first started to build in The Sims, I would do renovations of EA houses. I would remove a wall here, add a wall there, and create a home that fits my game style. This is a great way to practice your skills and learn tricks that you can apply on a larger scale. Jump into any EA pre-made house, and you are sure to find things that can be changed and improved.
The only way to master roofing is through practice.
2. Start with the largest area – When roofing any build, always start with the largest space first. 3. Try Out Different Roof Types – There are a variety of roof types in The Sims 4 for players to use. Try using various roofs and see which one works best for your build. 4. Mix and Match – Along with the tip above, it is important to mix and match the different roof styles. In the real world, roofs are not all the same, and various pitches are used to protect the interior. Apply this to your builds.
Just Go For It. You can watch or read all the tutorials you want, but this knowledge will be useless if you never enter build mode. Forget about creating the perfect house, and aim to create any house at all. Once you get started, I promise that each build will get better and better. Take the leap and see what you can create.
Building Cheats Before you start building in The Sims 4 you will want to enable the following cheats; testingcheats true bb.moveobjects bb.showhiddenobjects bb.showliveeditobjects If you want to build on a locked lot use: bb.enablefreebuild
Seek Out Inspiration. I often build with a reference image. Many times my build ends up looking nothing like the image. However, it gives me a great starting point. Utilize the internet, magazines, real life, and the gallery to inspire
Remember, you can find extra objects by searching ‘debug’ and the catalog will reveal thousands more items to use in your builds! Have fun and remember to share your builds with us on Social Media using #SimsMag Have a Simtacular Day!

Or you can download the NO ANTS file if the ANTS annoy you too! Exclusive Story: This was the first mod I did: the struggle of paying $100 for a single picnic basket? and then it only lasted for like 3 hours and ants start coming by while you have to pay another $100 because you want your Sims to connue chang and munching on? No Zombies Mod (Tuning File Style) by SimmerZozo Compable with 1.67 This is a basic Tuning Mod that removes all Zombies Spawn during the Full Moon. For anyone who uses the Returner Mod, you may have done this: City Hall - NRaas > Re-tuner > Sengs > General > ByTunableXML > Sims3.Gameplay.Controllers > LunarCycleManager > kChanceToSpawnZombie > 0 kNumberSimsToBeZombifiedOnFullMoon > 0 This Mod now gives you the Tuning File of "LunarCycleManager" and it is now set as kChanceToSpawnZombie > 0 kNumberSimsToBeZombifiedOnFullMoon > 0 So what's the point? Basically every me you create a new save, you will now ALWAYS have no Zombies Spawning. This is mainly for people who don't want to go through Retuner and do the edit themselves OR are unsure how to save the sengs for the new save. There are other Zombies Mods which does different things or are modded differently, if you are looking for something else, please look for those other Mods. This is focused on the Tuning Style Version. Exclusive Story: I already menoned about the struggle of not knowing how to save the sengs for NRASS when a Tuning is not

FB SHOWCASE 146
Hey all, Spoonie here with another Facebook Showcase. This month, to keep with the kids theme, I’ve focused on family-style homes and was astounded to find an amazing creator, CilasYT, who uploads blank shells for you to style and furnish however you wish. How cool is that?
BASE GAME GENERATIONS HOME This stunning multi-generational home comprises two floors with 4.5 baths, a generous living area, separate dining area and orangery to be found on the ground floor, along with a space for a study and a double bedroom with attached bath. On the first floor you will find 3 spacious double bedrooms and one single bedroom. 3 of the 4.5 baths are found up here as well. The landscaping is neat and easily maintained while it also features a large fenced in backyard.

PRICE: $99,162 HUGE GENERATIONS HOME This gorgeous Tudor-style home comprises of 6 bedrooms and a generous 4.5 bathrooms. The covered entryway leads into a large area with a fireplace, which is mirrored in the spacious kitchen with island. There is also a lovely dining room area, laundry room, and not one but two home offices. On the first floor, you will find the immense master suite, alongside the 2 double, and 3 single bedrooms. The manicured landscaping at the front of the home would suit someone who likes to garden, and the enclosed rear garden includes a pool. 148
SINGLE MOM HOUSE ECO-SUBURBAN This modern jewel of a home has two storeys and plenty of space for a growing family. The entryway leads into a large open-plan area consisting of kitchen, dining, and living areas. There is a halfbathroom down here, as well as a large office space and what I would turn into a reading nook off the living space. On the first storey, there are 4 bedrooms, including an incredible master suite, two of the other double bedrooms have their own attached bathrooms as well and there is also one other full bathroom. The grounds are simple and elegant while this home also has a covered deck area, perfect for barbecuing with the neighbors. The back yard is fully-fenced in.

Mar 21 - Apr 20 If you ever think that life is unfair, then you are right, fairness doesn’t come into it, hard work, patience and a good inner circle is what will see you through those unfair times. Let friends know you appreciate them this April, some of them need to hear it.
Oct 23 - Nov 22 Everything happens for a reason but sometimes those reasons may not align with our own set of moral rules. Take a step back this April and make a decision, is losing what you love worth not compromising, when it takes just a second to see it from another point of view and at least acknowledge it? Nov 23 - Dec 21 If you can do it, then why not? Get your adventure on this month, Sagittarius, because avenues are opening up to you, that you, have never thought possible. You may just be surprised at where and how you can make those vital connections. Outdoor adventures are key this April.
Dec 22 - Jan 20 Never in a million years did you expect things to happen as fast as they are this April. Under prepared? That’s OK… Take a deep breath in, and let it out slowly. You got this, you have always had this, trust in your own abilities is all you need to believe in now.
Jan 21 - Feb 18 Flow is the basis of everything. If you are feeling a little off-balance this April, it is because you are trying to hold back those emotions that have been held back for so long. Time to release that dam and really let others know how you feel. It will change everything if you are honest.

Feb 19 - Mar 20 Don’t be a fish out of water, join in and make the most of every little bit of fun you can this month. Time’s not going to be easy for you as we reach mid-April, but you need to hold on as rescue is on the way and you just have to believe it’s coming. Remember to laugh at the situations you cannot change. Tears no longer serve you.
Sep 23 -Oct 22 If you could have only one thing right now, what would it be? Now you’re sorting through this long list in your head trying to find out what it is you are to choose, weighing up pros and cons… time to follow your heart and not your head Libra because only then, will you see the path you truly need to take.
Apr 21 - May 20 The magic number this April is 2, the best things come in twos, and occasionally you get that bonus third one that sneaks in. What I am trying to say: Taurus is having someone come along for the ride isn’t a bad thing. Two heads ARE better than one after all.
May 21 - June 20 If you didn’t see it, it never happened… OK so this is certainly not the best way to go through life, Gemini, and maybe, just maybe this April you can believe in what you are being told, because blindly denying something because you can, isn’t the way to win this argument.
Jun 22 - Jul 22 Being at home isn’t a bad thing, when you can get five-minutes peace and gather your thoughts without someone else barging into the room, or someone shouting at you to come downstairs. Peace and quiet are precious things, but remember that silence isn’t always golden. Appreciate what you have.
Jul 23 - Aug 22 Of all the energy in the world, Leo, yours is limitless. You command attention when you need to and others wish they could do half of the things you are capable of doing. Burn out is a reality though, so make sure to grab those moment to rest when you can.
Aug 23 - Sep 22 Individuality is an important part of everybody’s personality, but isn’t it annoying that someone seems to be ‘copying’ you right now? Don’t let others take the credit for what you have achieved, it may be easier to let it go, but why should someone else shine in your light. Stand strong and take back what is yours.
