“Reliving Space Through Memories” This transformative potential of the pop-up installation of pursuance aims to etch into public consciousness that can take place in neglected sites, squares and parks which have the potential to activate a range of different types of public spaces. The design should demonstrate that the installations can be set up at the chosen site that seek to activate the potential of public space that can be shifted and unfolded around Singapore and in the global arena.
its good connectivity and location, the site is not utilized other than for the means of getting through. The project takes the local setting into consideration by capturing the flow of people through the site, whether is it for people going to work or home. This is done through the introduction of different intensities of spaces meant for different intensities of activities which are specially catered for the people who would be passing through the area.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority advocates Our Favourite Place programme that supports projects initiated and implemented by the community to enliven public spaces across Singapore to build community interactions and create shared memories.
MATERIALS
SITE The particular site was chosen as the site has a very good traffic flow and it enjoys the convenience of the Tanjong Pagar MRT located right next to it. However, despite
The main materials used are bamboo and plywood. The use of natural materials integrates the pavilion better into the site as it complements the surrounding natural elements. Bamboo is used for its structural strength while plywood is used as a surface for people to draw on. The materials chosen can be locally sourced and are relatively inexpensive as well. The plywood used may even come from recycled elements to give it a rustic touch. Steel clamps
are used to hold the pieces in place. OVERCOMING CONSTRAINTS One constraint during the design stage was to ensure that the spaces provided will not seem to be to imposing on people – where people would be forced into what the space is meant to do. Instead, the aim was to create a space that free and easy, making it relaxing and unrestrictive. To ensure the effect was achieved, the material chosen are light-weight materials to give the sense of lightness and freedom. With the removal of certain planes and obstruction, it creates informal entries around the entire pavilion, giving more freedom to what the spaces can be used for. Another main constraint faced was the tight budget of $4000 we had to worked with. The problem was eventually solved by replacing the steel structural poles with equally sound bamboo ones and using recycled plywood instead.

PROJECT AMELIORATE Master Planning Phase One
04
“Improving one self of living” Project Ameliorate aims to address the environmental, social, and economical issues of Chandalipara, a village in Bangladesh, by simply making their lives better. The high grounds work in tandem with the contour to allow easy drainage of water and at the foot of that, a 160 meter long Water-
front is designed as a flood prevention measure to protect the site from floods. It also doubles up as a social public space, like many other spaces in the housing clusters, and increase social interaction, giving people a sense of ownership of these communal facilities.
The Youth Centre equips the youth of the village with relevant skills and a holistic experience to guide them away from illegal deals. This generation can rise up for the betterment for themselves and of the village’s future by being self-sustaining.

The key factor of the Masterplan is the waterfront, to act as a buffer against floods. After conducting a series of extensive research, we realized that during a heavy flood, the sea level will rise up to 1.5m. Acting as a dam during flooding season, it protects the houses thats are at above 2m in height. During seasons when there are no floods, the waterfront can be a park for people to enjoy the breeze and have a stroll.

Ameliorate master plan
As for the distribution of housing units in our masterplan, we created 2 types of clusters, one specifically designed for a steeper ground and one for a flat ground, as according to our hypothetical site. The one designer for a steeper ground is held by stilts for support. As part of the task, we had to design a communal facility. The communal building is place at the very top of the site, to ensure that
it would not be affected during a disastrous flood and it could be a safe point of evacuation at all times. Roads are planned in a way such that walkability is prioritized. To restore their livelihood, various public facilities are provided, which includes a city square for gatherings and social interaction, a common jetty for the fishermen, and a market near the jetty for convenience and to get their daily necessities.

FREEING CHANDALIPARA Transitional Shelter Phase Two
05
“Reliving Space Through Memories For many years, the people of Chandalipara have been living with strong winds and extreme floods; parents, have to spend most of their time working to bring food to the table and at the same time having to constantly
repair the broken state of their houses. This has led to the children, being uncared of, and many has taken to drug dealing, as part of their lives. With a structurally sound concrete frame structure and sustainable features like a
rainwater collection tank that brings water directly to their taps, Project Freedom, aims to solve this problem, to help the community break free from this cycle of poverty.
