EDITOR’S WORD

Save the date for the dress

EDITORIAL TEAM

The modern bride is spellbound by Pinterest’s charm but she has also accumulated a rich experience and knowledge of style by herself: blogs, magazines, books and style tips have raised a new generation of women who do not dream of becoming the princess wearing a white dress and crystal shoes anymore. A new generation of brides-to-be have firm opinions and often their own stylists, and they choose their wedding dress not only in their home city but on the Internet and anywhere in the world. They visit not only e-stores and boutiques but they fly to Milan, Los Angeles or Paris, travel to neighboring countries, order dresses from Australia, or have their dream dresses designed from myriads of images of different dresses tailored. The bridal style has become a particularly important element and it is not enough to have only the dress; therefore, a hairdo, the make-up and flower compositions are created and, let us recognize this, the groom’s style is chosen to match the bride’s. A modern young woman is aware of large supply available and enjoys it. There is no sense in looking through magazines or hanging torn pages on the wall in one’s room anymore. Now, one can use YouTube to travel to the NY bridal fashion show, to drop in Paris boutiques, to get inspiration on the streets of Milan, to visit the most famous designers in one’s country and even observe the bridal fashion show of one’s region, which attracts all bridal fashion designers to show what will softly embrace the skin of brides-to-be in the near future. Dresses have their own stories and they are waiting for the opportunity to enfold a woman and help her create her story as the bride. Now, as you are reading this magazine, LOREAL BALTIC BRIDAL FASHION SHOW, an event that is very important for designers in the Baltics and neighboring countries, is taking place. This event, as if the Baltic gold, has combined all the designs into one large amber and now, all of us have the opportunity to admire its beauty. Charming moments that shine in different colors... Sincerely yours, Miglė

Worldwide publicity is required to call attention to the creativity of designers from the Baltic States An active account on Facebook and Internet site are not enough for a designer, and it is no less important to strive for a hundred thousand followers on Instagram and other social networks to allow the constant appearance of their works in magazines along with pictures of their collections in order for everyone to share their thoughts on different topics. So, where is the time needed for work, relaxation and the search for inspiration? Many fashion houses and designers have worked together with specialists in public relations and marketing, but there still hasn’t been a world-famous personality who has chosen a dress for her wedding created by a Baltic designer. Moreover, even the Baltic countries themselves do not know any news about the wedding fashion of the Baltic countries. A renowned stylist, Kęstutis Rimdžius, in his interview with the organizers of the “L`Oréal Professionnel Baltic Bridal Fashion Show”, mentioned that the Lithuanian market is small, but he knows nothing about the neighbouring countries and their designers. “It will be a great stimulus to start to become interested in what’s going on outside the territory of our country, not only for brides, who will be able to buy dresses from Estonian or Latvian designers, but also for the designers

themselves. The brides of our imagehouse buy dresses from foreign designers and this does not create any problems, and to find something special close to your country has been even easier, you just need time and knowledge. It is good that the first show for brides is being organized, because it will save a lot of time. After all, there will be a large number of designers in one place, but personally, my main expectation is for high quality”, he said as he shared his thoughts. “The event, entitled the L`Oréal Professionnel Baltic Bridal Fashion Show, will be held for the first time, where a collection of new 2017 wedding dresses, created by designers from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Belarus will be presented. “This is the first great event of its kind, whose significance and value should be taken as a message to the world about the creations of Baltic designers. The show will take place in the elegant surroundings of Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square, and the presented collections will be captured in photos, on camera, and broadcast around the world on a free-of-charge basis on the Internet. All of this will appear later on Internet sites, social networks, Instagram and Facebook, blogs and mass media. This opportunity is being provided for the Kęstutis Rimdžius first time, and it is precisely intended for highlighting the works of Baltic designers. The foreign mass media are especially interested in this particular event and are waiting for all the material immediately after the completion of the show”, shared Simona Krasauskienė, one of the show’s organizers.

It will be a great stimulus to start to be interested in what’s going on outside the territory of our country

The “Big four” of the fashion capitals spend a week celebrating fashion twice a year and represent the work of wedding dress designers from around the world. The Baltic countries will take part in such an event for the first time. “This is the first show of this type, and the front rows have been reserved by the representatives of portals, magazines, TV editors, stylists, and by other representatives of the fashion world. The organizers of the event believe that all the attention should be paid to the models of dresses being presented, so the fashion runway of the “L`Oréal Professionnel Baltic Bridal Fashion Show” will barely be decorated, and will surprise you with its simplicity and eclectic diversity”, said Armina Staniulienė, another one of the event’s organisers in sharing her thoughts.

It is not only the bride who must be stylish

but the bridal couple! Here it is – the true triumph of romance… The most important celebration in one’s life – that’s what the wedding day which gives a sense to the symbolic idea of eternal commitment and never-ending love is often called. Irrespective of your personal style, lifestyle, attitude towards the wedding or its significance, the status of this celebration has no equal in everyone‘s life; therefore, I tend to uphold a bold position that this is the occasion when we can afford being “tastefully immodest”!

Nevertheless, how one should not get lost in the turmoil of dreams, visions and realistic plans? How to remain true to oneself and, the most important thing, not to lose the sense of subtle taste?

fashion winds with its rigid bridal dress constructions, almost fiction decorations and, in general, the rules of doubtful taste. Finally, bridal fashions deserve the status of a fashion field and become closely related to the latest global trends. The main objective is HARMOBrides feel more free, and they NY! First of all, the mutual harmowant their special-day dress to ny of the couple... Since childhood reflect their individuality, personaligirls tend to somewhat selfishly dream ty status, sense of style, etc. The items about their bridal dress, wedding cake, wedthat could most probably leave our grandMARIJA ding bouquet… but have you dreamed of mothers speechless now have become the PALAIKYTĖ the outfit of your husband-to-be? It is not attributes of a stylish bride and the means of by chance that the husband-to-be is called the self-expression; therefore, it is more often that we “other half”... You should be compatible not only in see modern, bold or even emphatically original terms of your inner world but also on the outside. stylistic solutions made by bridal couples. A wedding is not the bride’s show – it is the first official common and public appearance as a family, As the 2017 race toward the altar has already startthe celebration of the couple’s harmony and if one ed, I would propose that we pay attention to the manages to maintain this, even external, harmony fact that fashion is becoming increasingly decoraat all times, it would be perfect. tive not only this year but in these times in general. The same is with the latest wedding dress trends However, harmony must prevail not only in the which offer to courageously select one or several outfits of the bride and the groom, it is the overall oversized bows or embossed 3D effect application consistency of the whole wedding stylistics, the elements which may be not only classical flower season, the chosen space and its formality status ornaments and various bead decorations but also and, finally, the outfits of the bridal couple that graphic patterns. A bridal dress is not one-piece matters. and smooth, it surface creates the effect of a certain light movement is not static anymore. popular choice of non-standard shades, and in rare cases – even light blue for wedding dresses in 2017. And what choices are available for the groom? Talking about the groom’s outfit, the main criterion is the consistency between the suit and the type of formality of a wedding celebration. Although we live in the culture of a more conscious consumption where everything must be practical, I am still inclined to romanticize the idea that a wedding is not and should not be “practical” and, therefore, we can allow ourselves to dress up more than usual. Even at the humblest wedding, the groom should not look as if he wears a new but still an “office-type” suit... When we know already the level of formality of your suit, the next step despite your style or wedding vision is the appropriate size, to be more exact – the size that fits you best. A perfectly fitting suit is not the sign of luxury but of respect to yourself and your bride!

The last year trend of nude shoulders still remains distinct; however, somewhat contradictory alternatives such as even extra-long sleeves have emerged. Although sexuality should not be the main criterion of the bride’s image (at least not during the ceremony), deep necklines either in the back or décolletage zone will be very popular in the latest bridal fashion trends. Perhaps the most distinctive novelty of this season is various cloaks and capes the variety of shapes and fastening points of which allows them to become alternatives to long trails or even veils. The boldest solutions for the most courageous brides. Is it a must for a bride to wear a long dress? Does she have to wear a dress at all? Trouser and blouse sets, interpretational experiments of a men’s jacket, play with unexpected lengths, bold accessories and, finally, colourful solutions – all this form of the “freedom to choose” is not surprising and remains relevant at all times. Eternally white is not only white anymore – it is offered to choose pink, which is obviously the most

16

BALTIC BRIDE STYLE

The choice of colour for the groom’s suit depends on the wedding stylistics, formality of the celebration, and the wish of the bridal couple to be original. Certainly, one should take into account the body proportions, colours of the skin, hair and eyes, particularly, when choosing a varicoloured material. Lately, the shades of red wine have deservedly received a lot of attention in men’s outfit combinations. However, even if one wants to wear a classical suit, it is very important that the groom would be distinguished among other participants in the celebration; therefore, I would suggest making the combination more lively by choosing a bow-tie and fantasy décor or subtle decoration elements on the jacket’s lapel. To achieve a completed image, it is important for the groom, just like for the bride, to take care of his hair, face skin and hands. As everybody knows, details make up the successful totality. No matter if you choose to maintain a more conservative classical style or more courageous solutions, the most important thing is to transfer your inner mutual harmony into the outside. It is one thing to know what is fashionable but to remain unique is quite another. Do not let the celebration to upstage you – be yourself and, what is even more important, seek all-encompassing harmony! Follow the news @ www.balticbridalshow.com

The BIG Egidijus Rainys

Every year, Egidijus Rainys designs and presents a collection for brides. The designer laughs that he has already lost track of the number of his bridal collections to be presented in 2017. “I consider the award of a diploma from the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts, which granted me the right to call myself a designer in 2004, to be the start of my professional career, irrespective of the fact that I started my creative activity a decade earlier”, said Egidijus Rainys in sharing his memories.

Inga Miltenienė

The designer has been actively working in the field of fashion since 1998. She became famous in 2015, when she presented her first bridal collection with Inga Stumbrienė, who was her model. Every dress designed by Miltenienė is totally different and can be worn by both a young girl and a more mature bride.

Ingrid INŽI Fashion House

Since 2014, this fashion house has been presenting bridal collections every year. Ingrida Rutkauskaitė designs for each bride individually and says that she never does this according to a picture. Her main distinctive feature is fluttering dresses with abundant decor details and lightness.

Jan Si Bridal

Since 2012, the designer has been actively creating readyto-wear collections. In the first Baltic bridal fashion show to be held in 2017, she will present her first bridal collection.

Liutauras Salasevičius

Liutauras Salasevičius, the designer and stylist of the Madam Pareis Vėliau fashion house, is one of the most popular bridal designers who always completes an image from A to Z. All of his shows are impressive, and it is hard to calculate the number of all the dresses he has designed. Every year, Liutauras presents several dozens of bold and particularly elegant bridal images.

Mas 924

During the past several years, the Mas 924 fashion house has dressed several dozens of brides, and its distinctive features have enchanted many famous Lithuanian women and future brides. In January, Monika Kazakevičiūtė will present her first collection for brides.

Raimonda Silė

The designer started her individual work with clients in 2011, but her first designs for brides were created in 2013. Raimonda Silė does not have any series of dresses, all of them are unitary. She has already been designing for brides for three seasons, and says that she tries to create something new every year and promises to play with colours more in 2017.

Rasos & Christian

Based in Panevėžys, this fashion studio has been actively operating for four years. The fashion studio presented bridal collections in 2016. The plans of its designers for 2017 are to concentrate on individual designs.

Robert Kalinkin

The Robert Kalinkin fashion house is admired by brides who are looking for a style designer. Here, they receive a common stylistic tandem with the groom, and the dress is chosen individually, according to their personality. The internationally known fashion house dressed up a number of international stars on the red carpet, for instance, Ashley Roberts, The Pussycat Dolls, one of the most famous Indian actresses Deepika Padukone who has over thirty millions fans, Vogue India, the former Miss France Marine Lorphelin, one of the most famous African actresses and a women’s rights activist Yvonne Nelson, members of the All Saints band, and the Chinese Princess Ye Mingzi. Shortly, in January, this fashion house will present its first bridal collection.

SILĖ Escape from monotony A meticulous game with different techniques, be it silk painting, soutane, embroidery or other, the aim stays the same – to create a sensual femininity, represented in a wedding dress, that is a piece of art. PART OF THE DAY: The most important part is determined by whatever my agenda is. If I feel inspired to create, I must take advantage and do it. This can be very sudden, even at night. FAVORITE FABRICS/MATERIALS: I mostly work with natural silk. I usually choose non-decorated, high-quality fabrics. I like decorations on garments and not on fabrics, because a decorated fabric is often the result of monotony. BRIDES: My brides are mature, educated, sensitive and feminine women, who love the classics with a splash of modernity.

STREET STYLE INFLUENCE: Street fashion does not interest me. A wedding – this is an opportunity for women to wear ‘art’. In this case, there are different rules as compared to street fashion. LOCAL TRENDS: A Lithuanian bride is more cautious, unlike brides who live abroad. They are more concerned about the opinions of other people. But they are stylish, and have an intuitive sense of what is appropriate and when they overdo it.

Talented Estonians: Kristina Viirpalu and Hanna Korsar Kristina Viirpalu

Kristina Viirpalu is one of the most famous Estonian designers who creates bridal gowns as well. Her exclusive feature is unique handmade knitwear which is combined with different materials to become fairy tale wedding dresses. They are extravagant and reminiscent of deeply-rooted Estonian traditions, and all of them are unique and stunning. There is no designer of this style in Lithuania yet. The most recent collection by Kristina Viirpalu is like a challenge for one’s eyes – when looking at the photos, more courageous people open their eyes even wider, whereas more conservative ones hurry to press another button. It is impossible not to become fascinated by the work of this Estonian designer. It is spellbinding!

Hanna Korsar

The second Estonian designer is young Hanna Korsar. She studied not only in Estonia, but also in Finland, besides she won various competitions for young designers. Her greatest passion is evening and wedding dresses. The main exclusive features of her works are delicate silhouettes, colour palette, and the quality and workmanship of the materials used. Magic in wedding and

prejudices

1

3

THE DRESS. Perhaps there is no other outfit so closely related with prejudices as a wedding dress. The most famous is that, by all means, the groom is forbidden to see the wedding dress before the ceremony.

SHOES. Even though it’s a question of preference whether it’s better to choose open or closed shoes for your wedding day, from the conservative or traditional perspective, it is recommended that closed ones be worn in order to keep all wealth and prosperity in the family and not to allow it to disappear through open spaces.

DATE. Here in the Baltics, we prefer summer and it’s definitely the wedding season. The best date according to astrologists for a wedding is a full moon.

5

6

NEW, OLD, BORROWED AND BLUE. There is a popular belief that during a wedding day, the bride should have something new, something old, something borrowed and something of blue colour. They can be anything from bridal outfit details or accessories.

LOVE. Believe in love, and it’s the background and essence of everything, no matter whether it is young moon, evening or Monday.

4 RAIN. There is no reason to be afraid of it. A rainy day is a promise of prosperity for the new family.

A thousand and one nights’ sparkle, shine and mistery Meters of luxuriously crisp organza, soft silk, kilograms of beads and crystals, and lace braids, where eyes are dreaming… This is a fabulously luxurious fairy tale that the Middle East brings to Europe. Lebanon is a pearl of this region. Where oriental sparkles meet European modesty. Designers from here are those who bring a brilliant radiance to a long established minimalism, with strong and too perfectly shaped European wedding silhouettes. The oriental touch gives us a splendorous tale, where fluttering and light wedding dresses are decorated with lace and crystals. In addition to that, veiled and unveiled play is also a contribution of oriental inspirations and has become almost synonymous to wedding dresses nowadays, together with long sleeves. If we look closely at the latest trends, we can clearly see that the use of glitter and spatial elements while decorating wedding dresses only confirms the oriental influence. What’s more, here in Europe, the oriental intensity of sparkle and glossiness assumes a more moderate expression that allows it to live in an honest and true fairy tale.

in bridal accessories

They say that great genius is hidden in the details. Speaking in a clearer way, accessories are key players if we talk about style, delicacy and splendid choices. This year, the following elements in the bridal look will be these essential elements that will charm, sparkle and intrigue.

1

Bridal capes. Even though in the majority of cases, capes are considered part of the bridal dress, they can be playfully used as an accessory.

Fresh blooms in the hair. A slight touch of Mother Nature in order to praise the eternal glory of flowers.

Flaunt long chandelier earrings. Shining and dancing with secret passion while you walk in.

Long, and very long veils. It’s sublime and moderate princess time. If we already have moved away from puffy dresses, royal length veils together with falling silhouettes create a statement of style.

5

Forms of crowns are not only for hair accessories. This year, wedding rings also tend to be preferred in this style, as this form is an eternal symbol of infinity and love.

6

We have already become used to vintage style, silhouettes and details. Almost everything except… Vintage wedding rings. These are rings to dream about.

7

Stone bracelets. We just love them, and they are part of our daily life, so why change to something else that is strange and does not suit our personality. Let a bracelet that is worn daily be with you during your special day.

Collars and chokers. It is evident that this year we will be praising history and adopting such elements in a modern way.

9

A measure of glamour can be achieved by using wispy feathers, not only as wedding dress elements, but as a part of hair and other bridal accessories as well.

Alexandre VASSILIEV: How can you become world famous as a wedding designer from the Baltics?

A very well known in Lithuania Set designer, Interior designer, Fashion historian, Art critic and Collector Alexandre Vassiliev has a lot of bridal dresses in his collection which he exhibits during his exhibitions. Not only he follows creations of few designers - their trends, changes and innovations, but he also remembers their first fashion shows. A known man in his interview for the “L`Oréal Professionnel Baltic Bridal Fashion Show” mentions the fact that as far as he knows, there’s not still a world-famous bride, who has chosen a dress for her wedding day, created by a Baltic designer. With an upcoming new wedding season and brides looking for their perfect designer, the Baltics Bridal Fashion Show will take place and the newest collections of bridal dresses creators from Baltics will be represented. Due to this event, we’re talking to A. Vassiliev about the first fashion shows and we discuss how Baltic designers can become world famous. At the end of this interview he tells us about the bridal style that he admires the most.

If we analyse a wedding dress from the historical point of view, what kind of story could you tell? A.V. The idea of white wedding dress has been born only two hundred years ago. There were no such idea as wedding dress in the history of fashion and every nice dress was considering to be a wedding dress. And ladies, when they had money and chance to get an expensive dress, let’s say in the 16th or 17th, 18th century, they would prefer a dress that could be used multiple times. So, it won’t be especially, of course, white in colour, it could be green, gold, blue, or, even pink. But when the Napoleon came to power in the early 19th century, his sister, Caroline, who married Prince Murat, became Princess Murat, was the very first lady who ever wore the white

dress for wedding. And since all the fashion of the Imperia - which is represented in my exhibition now at the end of this hall – they were all white, it became fashionable to wear white for wedding and this fashion last for two hundred years and right now we all consider white as the colour of wedding dresses. And nowadays, ladies are getting wedding dress or ordering wedding dress for a single occasion. They don’t have any idea for a multiple use. What are the first known wedding dresses and bridal style accessories that you could mention? What kind of personalities worn them and which period would that be? A.V. STYLISH SUGAMOUR from Lithuania to all the hearts in the world A stylish way of life has won everybody’s favour and people who live in cities, near them or even in rural cottages try to create an especially comfortable and cosy, as well as exceptional environment for themselves; however, if one has to choose between stylish and comfortable, global trends are currently crying out that STYLISH WINS. Sugamour is a trademark that blends in with city lives and not only provides top-notch satisfaction for the palate, but also exceptional attractiveness in its presentation. It is more than a dessert fashion dome; it is a whole stylish way of life in your city. Currently in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania and the second largest city of Kaunas, it is still a secret where hungry roads will lead to it. We are talking to Laura Normantienė, the founder of the SUGAMOUR trademark, about a stylish way of life, stylish weddings and business.

Complete the sentence: “A STYLISH DESSERT TABLE IS…” A STYLISH DESSERT TABLE IS…Modern in a French style. When the French spirit meets modernity and minimalism, it’s complemented with elegance and luxury at the same time. All the details really depend on the occasion and guests. Some of them want real poshness and glamor, and others want simplicity and minimalism, so all this can be accomplished with our creativity in a professional way. What is “SUGAMOUR” and which type of a city person is it intended for? “Sugamour” is a prestigious dessert boutique in Vilnius and Kaunas, Lithuania, known for its aesthetic approach to handmade confectionary, original specialty coffee, all-day unique desserts, and all day breakfast in its exclusive interior. “Sugamour” is intended for everyone: for a city person, for a tourist, walking around in the old-town and wishing a warm cup of tea with a dessert, for a business man, who

is having a meeting with a fully accomplished breakfast, for a fashion blogger, who not only observes the beautiful interior around them, but sweet tastes as well, for a mum with a kid, stopping for a sweet treat, and for those who haven’t been there yet and are looking for the right moment to come. What does “SUGAMOUR” look like during weddings? Tell us which type of weddings the desserts are intended for, and how they are arranged there. Do you do the decoration tasks yourself? It looks delicious, elegant and exactly as the bride and the groom expect. We try our best to fulfil their needs and always suggest creative ideas, so their wedding day can be the best and sweetest day of their life. The wedding cake and all the desserts are the real adornment and are planned quite a bit in advance with the newlyweds and their wedding planner, including what size, shape, colour and taste they wish to have at their wedding. We plan how the sweet table will look together with decorators and florists so that all the themes are represented and fulfilled with all the important details.

What desserts would you distinguish as trends of 2017? “Sugamour”, along with the Pastry Chef Ekaterina Buldakova always follow the most popular and worldwide trends, the latest desserts trends in France, Italy and around the globe. However, as she is a truly passionate creator, she thinks of new ideas herself – according to the seasons, new trendy ingredients, what could surprise our guests, what would be eye-catching and what amazes or astonishes the palate. How many and what kinds of desserts do you recommend ordering so that everything is not too much and that all the guests would remember the divine taste? Hmm…Very good question! Thanks! I would say it really depends on the occasion and quantity of guests. If it’s a wedding, then a cake and a small sweets table is a perfect choice, and macarons as presents for the guests are very popular nowadays. We would say - choose quality over quantity, so one piece of cake for a guest and few macarons as a present are more than enough to fulfil the need for sweets. And if it’s a celebration at home, like a birthday, we would recommend a decent size cake or a selection of mini desserts as well, but not more then 2-3 different tastes, to keep the balance and not mix the tastes too much. Is there any dessert that could replace His Majesty Wedding Cake? If yes, what would you recommend? Well I would say no, but yes… The His Majesty Wedding Cake is a big part of the wedding and usually the culminating moment, but if the newlyweds have different traditions than a classic wedding does, or if they want it to be more crazy, modern, innovative or challenging, then of course, everything is possible! The wedding cake could be served as a pyramid of mini desserts, or a tree of desserts or something more creative like a fountain with flowers, which would suit the wedding theme of course. Tell us about the everyday atmosphere in “SUGAMOUR”: what mood, aromas and emotions surround you here? What emotions do you share during the festivities? When you just enter “Sugamour”, you feel like you are in a little part of France, which is really surrounded by the French spirit, where you can

feel lots of love in the atmosphere, cosiness and warmth, and you can feel… very special and good just by being here! It is a place where you want to invite your friends and loved ones, where you want to celebrate your special days and even every day! With a very exclusive interior where you feel like you have entered a fairy tale, you are surrounded by beautiful desserts, aromas of freshly ground coffee and croissants, and smells of sweetness – it is very pleasant and welcoming. What emotions do we share during the festivities? Oh, you must visit us and see! You’ll experience the best festive feelings of all, with all our Christmas decorations, music tunes, friendly emotions and smiles, and you will feel very special during these holidays! What kind of people work there? Who creates the desserts? Who is the main fairy and what inspires her? Here we have the best team, which really loves its job and what they do. These people are loyal, reliable and willing to learn every day. Our team feels really special and proud of working here in our special environment, and serving our special guests, who come here to relax and have a sweet treat. And of course, our sweets fairy, talented dessert creator and chef – Ekaterina, works with such passion and enthusiasm that you can actually see sparkles in her eyes every time! And all her team members are really strong and professional people, who make inspiring desserts and who know that our guests will appreciate them. So, the entire “Sugamour” team is like a family with very strong personalities, whom I’m very proud of and who would like our boutique to grow bigger and become even nicer!
