PROFILE As a life philosophy, I have chosen to believe that everything is art, and that beauty is all around us just waiting to be found. So, when it comes to architecture being as ever present in our lives as it always is, I was fascinated by the way that it shapes our lives and engages with societal problems and global issues, and how it could potentially be wielded as a force of circumstantial improvement and positive change.

KSS Design group is a company focused on sports, residential & education building. Since I’ve been employed with them I have performed various tasks like 3D modelling, drawings preparation and issue, site meetings and interior design. I have worked closely with teams of interior designers, graphic designers and architects on the Wimbledon Court 1 & the Farmer Stadium renovations. I helped in creating this website with a friend from Newcastle University as an alternative platform for exchanging ideas, showcasing our designs, and learning from one another in order to achieve our mutual goals through the participation in professional international architecture competitions of various scales and functions.

Red box design group is a company focused on residential and commercial projects. in my short internship with them, I worked on a design for a canteen extension, shadowing the project architect in every task he overtook.

AEDES is a company focused on high end residential & commercial buildings. In my internship I worked on a closed competion for a new university building. Our proposal was shortlisted but did not win the bid.

The Wider Mbarara Project endeavours to provide resources previously unavailable to communities in and around Mbarara, Uganda. The Project is organised annually by students and alumni of Newcastle University. After raising enough money to cover the cost of the building work they plan to complete, up to 12 students travel to East Africa to spend around 6 weeks living and working with the local communities.

GRADUATION PROJECT For my graduation project, as part of the ‘Building on What is Already Built’ unit of the design module, I was asked to locate an existing building that may require an extension and create a brief for said extension. As a result, I chose an empty lot between the Science Museum & the Natural History Museum on Exhibition Road in London. The site is located between 2 Grade I listed buildings and had a connective corridor structure, and due to the sensitivity of the site and the historic value of the surrounding I had a very constrained site. My brief was to create the ‘Natural Sciences Museum & Research Centre’ that is both a unique standalone building, but at the same time was a connective extension of both buildings in terms of structure and functionality. The concept of the building is based on the behaviour of waves as they pass through small openings, the wave shape in turn was dictated by the shape of the distortion if a rectilinear building of the same area was squeezed in-between both existing buildings on the site. The extensive use of glazing is to minimize the visual impact of the new building on the neoclassical facades of the listed buildings and to create frames that display certain elements of the surrounding buildings.

URBAN JUNGLE

Infrastructure forms the substrata of our lives. We live in amongst a web, a network of connections that intersects almost all areas of urban and rural environments. These infrastructures are always, to some extent, physical - they have a material existence that is a constant state of flux: as technologies change, their distribution channels alter too. And they leave legacies - ones that offer the potential to be rethought, reimagined, and reintegrated into the fabric of the city`. Infrastructures Studio has set itself the challenge of addressing the small and intermediate scales of intervention into changing infrastructures in both the northeast and the and the A40 in London. Setting scenarios of future change, developing specific material responses to these scenarios, and deploying mechanisms of infrastructural renewal are seen in our studio’s Semester I Projects, in and around Northeast region.

SYLIVAN THEATRE

Cherkasy Theatre was an open entry student & professional competition, that was given to me & my classmate as a design project by my head of year at Newcastle University. My proposal for the design of the new Cherkasy theatre was highly influenced by the strong spirit of the society to save the cultural treasures of the town. The project aims for environmental development, urban regeneration and further involvement of the people throughout all phases. The primary challenge was to create symbolic building that respects the environment and it is not only for the people but by the people. Respecting all the efforts of the community and the tight budget of the project, I proposed a building that for the most part is built by volunteers. With the self-built structure, I tried to create a relationship between the people and their theatre. Process, which has already begun with the fundraising, that I hoped to continue through the construction and execution phases. The design is simple, unique and attractive, the form of a cube, made of interlocking vertical and horizontal mesh, using environmentally friendly and locally sourced materials. The final form of the design is achieved by subtracting simple geometric shapes from the original cube, to create negative spaces, where all functions are executed.

PLACED, DISPLACED

The Rising property prices in cities have squeezed many home-buyers out of the market. This was a small residential project aimed at young couples, providing them with a safe and affordable heav-en after their busy stressful jobs & lives. The building was inserted in within existing row of terraced housed and according to the brief no changes to the outer shell of the little home were allowed The design stands out as I decided to use black brick and give a contemporary touch to the building. The interi-or of the house is multifunctional to save space.

SUNCHEON ART PAVILION

My scheme for this competition was a collection of linked pavilions, each oriented to respect the site and setting, inspired by the traditional Hanok design and connected by an open-air courtyard exhibition space. I wanted to create simple, elegant, sensible to the environment, respectful to the Korean tradition and yet contemporary design that welcomes visitors and brings art closer to the community. The separate volumes of the proposal allow a strong integration with the landscape and create a continuous journey through the world of art. The traditional Hanok design is expressed throughout the various components from the special arrangement, to the form and the aesthetics of the art platform. In a similar manner to the historic well-known Korean house, the functions re divided into 4 categories: the main entrance hall, the visitor centre, the administration building and the art centre. The curved slopes of the roof derive from an abstraction of the vernacular roof forms used in ancient Buddhist temples.

URBAN OASIS This is an entry to a competition in Ryde, Australia. The brief was to create a mixed used master plan with public, residential and cultural buildings, incorporate transport links to the design, and create a landscape. The idea was to create a modern cluster in the heart of the city of Ryde where the community can live, work, create, imagine, shop and be entertained. Being settled in between the busy shopping area, the city council of Ryde and in such a proximity to Sydney the nature of the site is dynamic, fast and diverse, with number of layers of infrastructure, means of transportation, human traffic and constant movement. The main concept of the design is simple. The site is broken in three islands, each inhabited with mixed-use residential and commercial buildings the shape of which is inspired by the contours of the shores of River Parramatta. The master plan is developed with the intend to emphasize on nature and create a well harmonized mixture of the fast city life and the piece of a private setting to achieve a symbiosis between urban and suburban.

WIDER MBARARA PROJECT Volunteering Effort In Collaboration with: Newcastle University

Wider Mbrara is a volunteering project base in the province of Kitchwamba, Uganda. The project was started by Newcastle University students and it’s aims were to improve the quality of life for the local children. Every summer since 2006 a team of students was sent to help the locals design, fund and construct a series of buildings: from a hospital, to a simple family home, in order to create a suitable commune for the neighboring town and its inhabitants and also spread awareness regarding various issues including, but not limited to, education and public health. Me and my team were there in the summer of 2014 and completed the already started orphanage building. We designed a new guttering system to help the water collection throughout the year, and also created a playground for the local children.

WIMBLEDON No.1 COURT

Work Experience At KSS Design Group

This project covers a full range of architectural and design services for the redevelopment of No.1 Court at Wimbledon. The scope of work includes new hospitality and support facilities together with a fixed and retractable roof covering both the playing arena and spectator seating, giving the potential for uninterrupted championship tournament play. The contemporary façade properly respects Wimbledon’s unique heritage, and the new facilities will further enhance the quality of the spectator experience, thereby supporting AELTC’s aim of maintaining Wimbledon’s status as the premier Grand Slam event in world tennis.

BRIGHTON PREMIER LEAGUE UPGRADE

Work Experience At KSS Design Group

KSS was the architect behind the design of the existing stadium, which was completed in 2011, and since KSS has kept a very good relationship with the club, which in turn resulted in KSS being appointed to design the first team’s training grounds, KSS was once again appointed by Brighton and Hove Albion to design and deliver all the work required for the stadium’s Premier League compatibility update. We are currently working on a number of small jobs all around the existing stadium and designing a new South East Lounge with a TV studio attached to it.
