Carbon Descent, formerly known as SEA RENUE, emerged in 2003 from a collaboration of the organisations Sustainable Energy Action (SEA) and Renewable Energy in the Urban Environment (RENUE), founded in 1998. Since then our team has grown to 10 highly accredited staff who, supported by various volunteers and board directors, bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to all areas of our work.

Climate change strategies and carbon scenario planning We use VantagePoint modelling software to model how area wide carbon reduction targets can most effectively be achieved. As a starting point to this modelling, we have developed a process to translate the impact of national policy onto a local authority area based on the potential for each technology supported by policy. This process allows Local Authorities to assess whether a gap exists between thier local target and the successful delivery of national policy. Project management Carbon Descent has extensive experience of project managing UK and European sustainable energy and transport projects. We can help with project scoping and development, budgeting and finance. We can provide technical support, ongoing monitoring, reporting, project evaluation and manage dissemination events.

We provide a range of energy and environmental assessment services for residential or commercial buildings and their occupants. Be it public or private, existing or new build our energy and environmental assessors can examine building fabric, appliances and policies.

We can undertake basic energy audits, or detailed environmental assessments, which cover energy, water, waste and staff behaviour. Carbon Descent can also calculate your footprint and can include energy use in buildings, power generation, transport, waste treatment and embodied emissions.

Research & evaluation

We provide written reports, with full cost/benefit analysis of all recommendations. Feasibility & installation Carbon Descent can undertake feasibility studies and manage installation for any sustainable energy generation project. We calculate required capacity using our modelling software, assess suitable technology and provide a clear cost/benefit analysis for renewables, CHP or district heating.

Carbon Descent can undertake research projects in the areas of carbon emissions, sustainable energy demand and supply (including renewables and CHP), alternative fuels, sustainable transport and energy performance in the built environment. We welcome unique requests and can compile existing data, undertake desk-based research, online or phone surveys, model findings and present results. Previous commissions have included the London Carbon Scenarios report for the GLA and the GreenBlue, a feasibility study on alternative fuels for leisure boats.

Education, advice & training We create bespoke schemes to inspire individuals to make more sustainable choices about energy use, transport, housing and recycling. Through one off or ongoing workshops, events, stalls or presentations our expert team help people to get informed, get involved and make changes that benefit them and the environment.
