Public Healthcare Case Study
To implement a service provision that included a Food and Dry Mixed Recycling Service About the Project:
Project Challenges:
GPT Waste has been providing waste service provision to Queens Romford since contract award in August 2010. The services are provided to our partner Sodexo Healthcare.
The process of change was agreed with our partner and the implementation process was managed and coordinated to specific locations reducing the opportunity of contamination and resistance.
On contract start GPT managed all of the waste streams except the clinical waste. The objective of the service delivery was to increase recycling, maximise waste leaving site and implement a food waste and mixed recycling service. Prior to GPT managing the waste contract the majority of waste was classed as GMW with little or recycling taking place.
Project Challenges: Supporting our partner GPT implemented a dedicated food waste provision and mixed recycling service within 4 months of the contract start. The challenges associated with implementing the changes to such a facility included educating staff, contractors and visitors alike to the proposed changes being made and the benefits this would being to the Trust.
A key factor in delivering this was the ‘Waste Awareness’ event that GPT participated in to discuss with staff and visitors alike. A waste awareness questionnaire was also completed on the day by all and the results then provided an understanding of waste perception that could be managed by the team on site. The current level of recycling has increased to over 97%.
