The Challenge Something as simple as blocked gutters on a block of flats has led to Plastic Surgeon carrying out a two week contract for one of its regular customers North of the Border.

Oatlands is a large scale residential development being carried out by Bett Homes on the south side of Glasgow in the famous Gorbals district. Construction there is programmed to run for more than five years and Plastic Surgeon was in fact called in to look at a four storey apartment building where the people had already been in occupation for some 18 months.

Despite an overall high build quality and a strong architectural treatment for the building’s facades, water cascading from the blocked guttering had discoloured the reddish reconstituted stone masonry, and earlier attempts to rectify the staining had failed.

The Solution Plastic Surgeon’s area sales manager, Graeme Campbell arranged for one of the finishers to execute a test panel on one of the less prominent areas to the façade, before Plastic Surgeon was given the formal order to proceed.

Two finishers working from full scaffolding applied the Plastic Surgeon’s own screed system. This firstly required all other areas such as windows, light fittings and down pipes to be masked off before the finishers used their skill to apply the material to bring the whole of the stonework to a uniform finish.

Despite adverse weather conditions for several days, Plastic Surgeon completed the work within deadline and to the satisfaction of the apartment building’s management.

The Site Agent for Bett Homes, Mr Paul Obyrne, comments: “This was something we had to get right for the management company taking care of the apartments, and Plastic Surgeon of course did a very good job.”
