head coach

rick isaacson The 2017 season marks Isaacson’s seventh at Simpson, where he has guided the Storm to a 66-518 record. Isaacson has led Simpson to four 10-win seasons and four trips to the IIAC Tournament Semifinals. Isaacson has coached 15 all-Iowa Conference performers, including 2016 IIAC Offensive MVP Garrett Pochop. He has also coached the program’s career leader in goals and points, Mitchell White (2011-14), and the all-time leader in assists (Tyler Neumann, 2012-15). Isaacson led the Storm to a tie for third in the IIAC standings in each of the last two seasons, advancing to the semifinal round of the Iowa Conference Tournament both times. He led the 2012 squad to a 13-win season, the most by the program in a decade. In his rookie season of 2011, Isaacson piloted a big turnaround, guiding the Storm to their best record in five years en-route to a third-place finish in the league. Isaacson came to Simpson from Ankeny High School, where he served as head boys soccer coach for six years. He led the Hawks to a 110-25 record during his tenure, winning the Iowa High School Class 2A State Championship in 2007 and finishing the season with a No. 7 national ranking by the NSCAA. Isaacson earned CIML Central Conference Coach of the Year honors three times, made four trips to the state tournament and earned the State of Iowa Coache’s Achievement Award in 2007. A goalkeeper at Luther College, Isaacson led the Norse to three IIAC Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances as a player (1999, 2001, 2002). He was named league MVP in 2002 and is Luther’s career-leader with 40 shutouts. Isaacson led the Norse to an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight in 2001. Rick and his wife, Kelly, reside in Urbandale. The couple has two children: Addison and Charles.
