SEMESTER 5, STUDIO PROJECT Group Project : Team of 5 Documentation and Analysis of a village VERNACULAR JAYANTI MAJRI, PUNJAB
vernacular settlement
..................................................................
The story of the temple of Mata Jayanti Devi goes back about 550 years. One of the brother of the King of the estates was married to the daughter of the king of Kangra who was a great devotee of Mata Jayanti Devi. When her marriage was fixed she was very anxious because it meant going away from her deity. When the marriage party started back from Hathnaur with the bride’s doli, a miracle happened. The doli turned very heavy and nobody could move it. The king decided to establish a temple for the Devi on a hillock in his estate. Presently, the temple is located 15 km from Chandigarh in Ropar district of Punjab, on a hillock in the Shivalik ranges. At the foothill lies the village Jayanti Majri that owes its existence and name to the temple, on the left bank of a seasonal stream Jayanti Rao.
Nodes Main road Paths
The main road of the village leads to the Jayanti Devi Temple. Public transport - Buses and Autorickshaws connect the nearest cities to the village and internally as well. The nodes mark important entry and exist points. Activity Public Spaces
These Activity public spaces can be either Peepal trees, shops, or Aangans in front of houses where people get together for a cup of tea, play cards or just sit and relax and discuss their lives. ........ ........ ........ /////

The built fabric is seen dense towards the temple and less dense towards the outskirts of the village. Also, new methods of construction are witnessed on the outskirts. Trees

PLAN
A family of 4, staying in a small 1 kanal plot house was one of those typical families we saw in the village. The head of the family was the father and mother took care of the home. They had 2 children, both studying in the nearby schools. Their daily routine involved going to the mandir for morning prayers, then heading to their respective works and being back home before dawn. The house was divided into 2 parts- one for the cattle and other for the occupants. They lacked a toilet but were going to build it in the near future.

SEMESTER 5, COMPETITION Individual Project Mural Design Competition for a Hospital wall PUBLIC GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL, SECTOR 36 CHANDIGARH
.................................................................. Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy in collaboration with the Chandigarh Administration held a mural design competition for a 90 feet long wall in a hospital. This competition was first of its kind in Chandigarh. The theme was to show Nature, Art, Environment Health and Happiness in Le Corbusier’s city. To bring Chandigarh alive through this mural was the main concept behind the design. The mural amalgamates the lifestyle of Chandigarh with the Architecture and Art through colorful graphics. It is a mixture of the attractions of Chandigarh and Le Corbusier’s thoughts about the city. As it was a Hospital wall, so bright colors were used so as to make people feel good as they come.
THE LESS MAINTAINED BARE WALLS WILL NOW MAKE YOU HAPPY DAINIK BHASKAR Newspaper October 2016 Dainik Bhaskar newspaper of Chandigarh covered the inauguration of the wall. It was inaugurated by Mr. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administration and Mr. Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home Secretary of Chandigarh in October 2016. The idea was appreciated and supported by the Hospital Administration and staff as well. Recently, Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy has also planned to build sitting area in front of the wall.

...............................................................
Public open space in India has had a rich and textured history. From courtyards to Jahangir’s magical charbaghs, from village mela grounds to the urban plazas, Indians have designed, built and used open spaces for a variety of purposes for thousands of years.Unfortunately in today’s India, many factors, ranging from the sheer size of urban population and the usurpation of public spaces for private use, have compromised, distorted and often destroyed the identity and our connections with open spaces. The trophy seeked to establish a re-connection with the open spaces that belong to all of us. It could be a garden, street, plaza, heritage precinct, waterfront, marketplace, etc. The space or the idea of the space was to be re-imagined for the future. Residential area Commercial area Connecting roads Unused barren land Historical monument
THE SITE
CURRENT SITUATION
In the shadow of the Khirki Masjid, is a sprawling multi-cultural village where shopsand cottage industries are interpersed with houses and artist studios. The village is home to foreign immigrantsmany of African origin. A jam-packed village with no place to interact has created cultural clashes between the Africans and Indians. Unchecked urban developments and unused public lands pose a threat to the beautiful multi-cultural village.

Building a true community takes the establishment of trust, respect and commonpurpose among groups and individuals of different races, ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds. One element of accomplishing this goal is the creation of spaceswhere people can come together and mix naturally, getting to know one another,or atleast getting used to one another’s presence and style. Another element would be preserving the environment through historic purifier systems.
visual access to monument
children’s park
A bunch of seasonal activities were provided to ensure the proper usage of the public area which in turn will avoid any kind of illegal activities as well.
It would increase the general enjoyment of life in the community. It will expand children’s horizons through interactions with people who have different assumptions and expectations. It will increase equity. It will also help to develop a sense of community pride and ownership. It will promote individuals’ understanding of one another’s culture and humanity. They can provide a forum for the exchange of ideas.

SEMESTER 6, WORKSHOP Group Project- 8 members Lighting design of less used areas LIGHTING DESIGN- PUBLIC CCA, Sector 12, CHANDIGARH
lighting design workshop
............................................................... The International Association of Lighting Designers, IALD organised a Lighting design workshop in our college, CCA along with mondo*arc India and ISLE. The theme of the workshop was to light up areas of the college which were not used to their full potential because of no light. We got the parking area of our college. The basic concept involved a journey of our life. A starry night was created on the ground by putting LED lights in bottles and spreading them on the ground. A circular light fixture marked the entrance to the area behind which was a lit-up concrete sculpture (the lit up frame makes the lid). Irregular patterns on the box and the colored light depicts the journey of a person. The biggest tree in the parking was lit up so as to depict the beginnning of a new journey.
Good lighting is felt before being noticed. ~TEJAS JOSHI
