A method of delivering fire retardant material via medium caliber artillery shells is presented. Various sizes, materials and deployment methods were synthesized and large economic advantages are established in internal studies favoring the artillery delivery system over the aerial delivery systems undertaken by helicopters and fixed wing aircraft of any size. The concept was offered for sale by Boeing Phantomworks to US Forest Service after having received public media coverage worldwide upon publication of the patent application in August 2016.
