Background • History of the competition at USC: • 2006-2007 – Phoenix Flyer (3rd Place Nationwide) - Special Light Sport Aircraft

• 2007-2008 – Aquila (1st Place Nationwide) - Very Light Jet Trainer

• 2008-2009 – Tranquillus (To be announced) – 150 Pax Environmentally Friendly Advanced Commercial Jetliner






Request for Proposal 2009-2010 • “Advanced, Environmentally Compatible Commercial Transport to use alternative fuels”: -162 passengers (dual class) -Range: US transcontinental -Significant improvements in fuel burn (with associated CO2 reduction). -Use of alternative fuels, potentially bio fuels -No particular Noise Requirements -Improved passenger comfort -Reduced DOC and acquirement costs


Goals & Objectives: - To provide critical, applicable and practical knowledge of engineering design, and the related fields with particular emphasis on aerospace and mechanical systems in all levels. - To provide General knowledge of the industrial organizations, and industrial processes (development and manufacturing). - Provide students with practical knowledge of tools, resources and methodologies considered valuable to a career in engineering, regardless of the field.

Method of Approach: -Mini Lectures -Working Sessions -Less likely to have assignments, if we meet on Fridays - Otherwise, work is distributed trough assignments -Potential members for the team will be evaluated based on their presence, responsibility, motivation, and involvement. -Highest ranking, and most responsible participants will be included in the final team arrangement (June 2010) for the proposal.

•Lecture 8: -Aircraft industry as a financial establishment (Manufacturers & airlines) •Lecture 9 -Computational Tools: AAA & GasTurb •Lecture 10 -Computational Tools: ANSYS CFD & CFX •Lecture 11 -Computational Tools: ANSYS FEA & Acoustics ...
