Urbania: A summation and fast paced location exposing a culture’s variety of food, music, and media. Times Square is researched and surveyed in how to make this urbania into a surbania. Excercises to reach such nirvana are by way of meditation, strolls, and mini escapes found around the vicinity that represent a more suburban lifestyle.

“Speakeasy Using ethnographic tools, to find new ways of communication at Parsons The New School For Design. (InDesign)

In this solo project, I first began with the question of how can girls going to design school find a dating scene for them. As the project progressed, I saw that the main issue was the way of communication and little sense of community that existed within Parsons. Takine this observation, I began to test ideas that could create a greater dialogue amongst students about an array of topics and interests. I proposed Speakeasy which would be a weekend gathering by and for only students, where they can linger, talk and collaborate. There would be an an online platform that would compliment the events, where topics for each Speakeasy is crowd-sourced. 27

Design As Ethnography

speakeasy steps DIY Remain open in what happens. Group 2 or more friends with you. Choose what other disciplines you are looking for. Create a theme / topic of conversation. Seek your guests: email profesors, posters, etc. Reserve a space at school during the weekend. Make it fun, unique, attention-grabbing.

“Project Yarch Doing social good through socializing. (InDesign)

I made a simple plan in how using my knowledge of social entrepreneurship, I could align this with my interest in event planning. Under project Yarch, 10% of the profits made in the event would go towards it. The 10% would be divided into two parts, 5% goes into kickstarting a local dream. This would happen in the medium of a luncheon, gathering of pepople that could further fund each dream. The other 5% would go into investing in making art pieces by our artists to be sold in future events, where profits from those items would go back into Project Yarch.

For my senior thesis, I created an event called Doplar Sensebox. Doplar is an evolving art form, sensebox a living playground. Each area of the venue was designated towards a certain sense. We attracted over 160 people to attend, made possible with the collaboration of 15 artits. Flavor-food pairings were served, sense performers, musicians, visual and touch installations. My resposnisbilites were to manage, organize, and support the artists in their creations, wether in finding resources, to moral support.
