C S ’ HILD’S T I A proverb is a short popular saying about how people should behave or about a belief that is generally thought to be true. A proverb makes sense on its own, but to understand its real meaning, we need to apply the proverb to a broader set of situations.

1 2 3 4 5 6

If something hurt you once, you avoid it after that.

If a child isn’t disciplined, he or she will become spoiled. Children have not yet learnt, and fools never learn. That people can lie to benefit themselves. Children should not speak when adults are present. This proverb is often used to express disapproval of a child who has spoken when he or she shouldn’t have. This suggests that there are basic rules of proper behaviour that even children should be aware of.

When I Grow Up …

Ever thought about what you want to be when you grow up? Think about what you enjoy and consider taking up one of these interesting jobs!

Are you a strong swimmer and dream about treasure hunting? If so, try being a golf ball diver! Every day, golf ball divers recover more than 3,000 golf balls that have fallen into the water on golf courses. However, this job is filled with dangers – golf ball divers usually cannot see very well, if at all, in the murky water. They are likely to injure themselves on broken bottles and other rubbish on the bottom, or drown if they become tangled in fishing lines or fallen trees.

What if someone paid you to sleep? Sounds like your dream come true? A bed manufacturer sometimes looks for bed testers to sleep in new beds that the company has made! After testing the beds for months, the bed testers take part in a survey about their experience. Through the survey, they give the company their views about the beds and information about what is needed to get a good night's sleep!

Need new goggles or swimming equipment? Check out Sun Paradise (03-15).

Want to be more than just a veterinarian? How about being an animal specialist who milks snakes? A snake milker has to take venom from poisonous snakes by “milking” the reptile’s fangs. Venom is a deadly poison but is also used to make anti-venom, which stops a person or animal from being killed by the poison. Venom can also be milked from certain poisonous spiders and insects. Be warned though – this job can kill!

If you like snacking, especially on chocolate, you could be a chocolate taster! You will be trained to inspect chocolates for how good they look, smell and taste. This job is not as easy as it sounds – you will need to focus and use all your senses to assess the chocolate thoroughly. Love snacking on chocolates? Get your sweet treats from Awfully Chocolate (B2-63).

28

Do you enjoy playing in the water and taking thrill rides? If you do, maybe you should think about being a water slide tester! Resorts and theme parks hire people for this exciting job that allows you to hurtle down water chutes and test them for future holidaymakers. A water slide tester takes note of the water slides' features like how thrilling it is and how big a splash it makes. Besides getting to enjoy all the water slides before anyone else, a water slide tester could also get a paid holiday from the employer!

If your parents are looking for new beds for you, head to Serta Sleep Center (05-07), Englander (05-21/22), Sea Horse (05-23), v.hive (05-04/05).

If you have an excellent sense of smell and a strong stomach, you should think about being an odour judge! An odour judge can work for a range of manufacturers for products such as foot creams and perfume. As part of the job, the odour judge may have to sniff armpits where different deodorants have been applied, or sniff at stinky feet!

Word Power manufacturer – a company that builds or makes something hurtle – move with great speed chutes – steep slopes or channels used as slides

Be A Posture Hero! Did you know that sitting with a slouchy posture is bad for your back and your growing body? So sit up with your back stretched long and tall and learn how you can become a posture hero today!

What is posture? Posture is how you position your body when you sit, stand, or sleep. Boys and girls need good posture because it is healthy for your back and helps your body grow nice and tall.

Help take care of everyone you know by reminding them of these tips for better posture.

a. Kids b. Parents c. Everyone d. All of the above

✔ Don’t be a Slouch Potato! When sitting or standing, ensure that your back is long and tall, not slumpy and small. ✔ Remember, your head is heavy (like a bowling ball) and falls forward if you don’t have a good posture. Stretch your neck upwards. This helps keep your chest up and ears resting over your shoulders for better posture every day. ✔ When using tablets or playing games on mobile devices, raise your device higher up so your head doesn’t have to be too far down for too long.

Want to know more about good posture? Just head to BackJoy (04-69A) to visit our specialist.

He was born in northern Greece in the city of Stagira around 384BC. Aristotle grew up as part of the aristocracy as his father, Nicomachus, was the doctor to King Amyntas of Macedonia. I enjoy playing badminton the most! It helps me to stay fit and has taught me how to stay focused.

Ever thought about what you want to be when you grow up? Think about what you enjoy and see if you'll consider taking up one of these interesting jobs! I like soccer best because I enjoy the challenge of scoring goals without using my hands.

Badminton became an official Olympic sport only in 1992.

BADMINTON Four feathers from the left wing of four geese are used to make up the 16 feathers on the best shuttles.

SOCCER Soccer is also known as football in many countries.

Soccer was nicknamed 'the beautiful game'. Some think that it is beautiful because anyone can play it and it can bring people together.

Swimming exercises all of the body's major muscles and makes the heart and the lungs stronger.

Badminton is the world's fastest racket sport. The fastest stroke of a badminton racket recorded so far is 332 kilometres per hour.

RUNNING

I love swimming because I find it very relaxing.

Cold water cools down the human body 25 times more quickly than cold air, so swimming in water that is below 15˚C can be very dangerous.

Who is Nathaniel Hawthorne? [Ne-the-nyel Hawh-thorn] Nathaniel Hawthorne was a 19th century American novelist and short story writer. He is seen as a key figure in the development of American literature for his tales of the nation’s colonial history. Hawthorne’s works probe into human nature, especially its darker side. Unlike most fiction writers of his time, he was not primarily interested in stirring the reader by sensational or sentimental effects. Hawthorne called his writing “romance”, which he defined as a method of showing “the depths of our common nature”.

Allowing natural light into the building means that less electricity is wasted on electrical lighting in the daytime. ildren’s Story Books from Ch It’s interesting how some of life’s greatest lessons can be found in children’s literature. Here are some of the best quotes from our favourite children’s books.

Promise me you’ll remember, you are BRAVER than you believe, STRONGER than you seem, SMARTER than you think. – A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. – Aesop, The Lion and the Mouse

– J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

It’s no use to go back to yesterday because I was a different person then. – Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid. – Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun, and the job’s a game. – P.L. Travers, Mary Poppins

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.

– Dr. Seuss, Oh the Places You’ll Go

Numbing the pain for a while will only make it worse when you finally feel it. – J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely. – Roald Dahl, The Twits
