Theybroadcastlivestreamswherepeoplecould watchtheboyandhisrobotdogatallhours.And intheselivestreams,thepopulationofEarth soonlearnedthatMarswasasocietyfarpoorer thantheirs.

Theboysleptattheentranceofthecave,ashe wastaughttodoincaseofacavein,withone antennarestingonthefloorandtheotheronthe wall.Hecurledhisbodyaroundhisrobotdog.The boywouldoftencryoutinhissleep,graspingatthe airandtherobotdogwouldnuzzleinandcalm him.Theboy’sarmwouldcurlsecurelyaroundthe tinymetalliccreature,findingcomfortinthesharp edgespokingintohissmalltwiglikearms.
