Another Day in Paradise
Feeling relief? Never been so happy to feel the cool breeze of autum? Even the accompanying rain? You’re sure not alone. This month, we welcome back Lillian Paetzold Chen who writes from Shanghai. We hope her new regular column that is “Teenage Jailbreak” will appeal to the younger part of our demographic seeking fun in the “big ol’ smoke”. Afterall, we’re not going to be here to write and read it all for you forever, you know? Onto the theme for this issue. It’s been forgotten by most just how much impact COVID has had on our city’s philanthropic organisations. We decided it was time to investigate and see how they coped (p. 12-144). Elsewhere, we examine the history of giving in China, how it has developed, been legalised and look at where it may be going in the future (p. 10-11). Lastly, we also have our regular fiction piece. Morgan Gallup Zhu will have you scratching you head as to how philanthopy is related to robots on Mars… (p. 16-19). Welcome to “Charity” from The Nanjinger.
