Co-founder Grant Rowles is keen to hear how we can improve the show
Grant Rowles
Co-founder, Geneva Dry
Welcome to Geneva Dry, the world’s premier commodities shipping conference, designed to engage every rung of the dry bulk sector, the largest segment in commercial shipping.
In this second edition of the dry bulk summit, we’ve listened to what our delegates had to say from the inaugural event last year, and reshaped some of the output.
Yes, you’ll still find familiar cargo-centric sessions such as iron ore, coal and grains, as well as the popular Dry Decarbonisation panel, but what you’ll also experience over the next couple of days are plenty of new themes and panels. These include specials on Forward Freight Agreements (FFAs), an hour’s discussion on how the growth in demand for electric vehicles is affecting the dry bulk trades, while two digital sessions look at harnessing tech at sea, as well as in port.
Another change from last year’s conference comes right at the beginning with the inclusion of two workshops prior to Geneva Dry’s actual conference proceedings kicking off. The Crewing In The Digital Age workshop is designed to give delegates ideas on how to harness and standardise the digital revolution sweeping through shipping, while the Risk Management In Dry Bulk hour will offer important insights into fuel price risks, contract and counterparty risk, as well as geopolitical risk.
The global dry bulk event has surpassed last year’s 600 delegates figure and can report 58 brands have signed on as sponsors with 67 top names now confirmed as speakers spread across 13 sessions over two days.
Let us know what you’d like to see when Geneva Dry reconvenes next April
As ever, we’re keen to hear from you to understand areas we can improve, new topics to consider for 2026, so please do let me or my colleagues know what you’d like to see when Geneva Dry reconvenes next April.

You have the chance to make this event more special by simply raising your hand at some point over the next two days.
At all of our events we genuinely endeavour to make the level of participation from the audience equal to that on stage, and that is only possible if you decide to get involved.
We’ve all been to stultifying industry events where panellists drone on, PowerPoints serve as none too subtle advertising pitches, and there is no room for Q&As with the audience. That is not how we go about organising any of our shows around the world.
Making industry gatherings interactive takes a little bit of guts. Who will be brave enough to raise their hand and grab the mike first? Let’s face it, the conversation over the next two days will spark plenty of questions or comments in your head - now be brave, be bold, and say them out loud to our esteemed panellists.
At each of the 13 panels delegates can attend today and tomorrow there will be conference officials on hand with microphones so at any point thrust your paw in the air and we’ll be alongside and you can fire away with whatever’s on your mind.
We are indebted to the 67 speakers who have agreed to take the stage for the 2025 edition of Geneva Dry, and it would be remiss of me not to say a special thanks to the 13 brave men and women who have agreed to moderate the sessions today and tomorrow. Moderating is not a simple job at all, especially when trying to get an audience engaged as much as possible, and I can tell you each panel has been through extensive email back and forths plus Teams chats to ensure each session is packed with topical, relevant debate.
When scanning though the agenda you might notice we’ve extended this year’s edition so that there will be plenty more time for you to interact with fellow delegates with longer lunch and coffee breaks and more panels than last year.
As ever, we’re very keen to hear from you on how we can improve the delegate experience for the 2026 edition of Geneva Dry. Do track me down over the next couple of days with your thoughts. Please do let me or my colleagues know what you’d like to see when Geneva Dry reconvenes next April.

Co-founder Sam Chambers suggests ways for the industry to appeal more to the best graduates across the world
Sam Chambers
Co-founder, Geneva Dry
You’ll note the increased digital focus at this year’s Geneva Dry, whether it be in terms of panel topics or sponsors. Dry bulk is digitalising, no question, but are all the workforce fully onboard this shift, and are c-suite execs doing enough to get the top tech talent to consider a career in shipping?
Shipping has to revamp its image and look more lucrative and agile in terms of career opportunities and growth if it is going to get the cream of the crop coming from the next generation of tech students.
The sector has yet to fully adapt its thinking about future talent needs or positions, as very few shipping companies have R&D teams, innovation teams, or technology-related internships.
Shipping needs to do better in being part of the broader conversation and highlight how it is contributing to causes that energise younger generations including the environment, betterment of communities, and collective wellbeing.
Developing a compelling narrative to encourage students – and their parents – to explore careers in the industry is crucial.
The sector needs to raise awareness of maritime being an industry that is breaking free from its traditional nature and is enabling innovation. Other industries, often with less regulation, are able to present themselves as more exciting.
Communicating with students and showcasing how technology is transforming the maritime industry through automation, AI, and data analytics will be essential if the sector wants to advance with the best tech graduates.
AI won’t replace people but it will reshape roles, and that is something we all need to get used to fast.
AI is a tool, not a replacement for human ingenuity. The leaders who thrive in this new era will be those who can leverage AI while championing the human skills that drive maritime success.
As automation evolves, maritime professionals will need to adapt to hybrid roles. Digital literacy, data analysis, and AI-assisted decision-making will become essential, but so will leadership, resilience, and problem-solving. The most future-proof employees will be those who can seamlessly integrate technical expertise with human-centric skills.
As AI takes over routine and data-heavy tasks, professionals will have more capacity to focus on high-value activities, such as strategic planning, innovation, and customer relationship management. The ability to problemsolve, think creatively, and lead with vision will be more valuable than ever.
Transparent communication, clear career development pathways, and ongoing training will be critical in ensuring AI is viewed as an enabler, not a threat, something I am sure will be up for debate at many panels today and tomorrow.
The most future-proof employees will be those who can seamlessly integrate technical expertise with human-centric skills
9:20 - 10:05
What more can be done to ensure ships spend less time at port? Are terminals doing enough to drive efficiency across the dry bulk supply chain? The technology driving change will be scrutinised in this engaging opening session on Day Two.
