As Jakarta - current Indonesia’s Capital City - continues to sinking due to uncontrollable groundwater extraction, President Jokowi start the plan to moves Capital City to Borneo Island. The idea of New Capital City is a smart new city between the rainforest of Borneo as a gift for the whole World. Implementing smart transportation, smart movement, smart way of working, and smart self-produced energy & food. Total Area of Nagara Rimba Nusa is 180.000 Ha, with only 42% developed as city, and 58% remain as forest. The City Center of Capital City as Governmental City supports by satelite city with diverse unique character.

ANALYSIS

We used GIS-Based Analysis to choose where we should put our Capital City’s City Center, and overlayed all together. Key factors of GIS-Based Analysis that we ran through were:

City Center Area should be in the seashore or near water to implement the idea of ‘Archipelago City’

City Center Area must be on 10-12 m height from water level and relatively flat to secured the city from flood because of water-level rising

City Center must not be located in or near fault zone

C

City Center must not be located in area that prone to ground movement and flood.

City Center Area must not be located in protected forest area.

In the present-day, Jakarta hosts 10 millions people -30 millions if the satellites cities is included- that deny the chance to walk around in the city open space. The reasons couldn’t been more diverse, for instance blistering weather, prevailing pollution, unshaded path, or simply yet tragic, the absence of walking infrastructure. Refusing to succumb to this condition, We pioneered the refurbishment of planning & design of pedestrian infrastructure. Our restless guerilla stole the attention of the authority and gave birth to various pedestrian projects that attempts to improve urban linkage. Urban Guerilla, as Urban Designer Community, and Holcim helping DKI Jakarta City Government, involved in research and design Jakarta’s new pedestrian to creates better movement in Jakarta. Taking examples from many good pedestrian in other cities, the vision is to adapting the aspiring development for Jakarta’s future growth. Melawai and Mahakam are the pilot projects.

Jakarta for Asian Games

After Jakarta won in the bid to host Asean Games 1962. It brought the forth infrastructure renaissance in Jakarta. Huge sums of investments were turned into road infrastructures, sport facilities as well as monumental and celebratory structures. Jakarta grows exponentially, yet, it is not accompanied by proper supporting facilities development and maintenance. Pavements were cracked, sewer covers were missing, electrical wires were exposed on the ground, and aggressive motorbikes raiding on pedestrian walkway are general picture of what’s going on in Jakarta. By the 2014, the appointment of Jakarta-Palembang as the host of Asean Games 2018 became the turning point of Jakarta’s Development. Aware of the sustainability issue, authorities initiate plan to develop the first ever rail based mass rapid transit system in Jakarta along with major upgrade on existing sports venue, pedestrian walkways and bus systems.

ISSUES CONTINUITY

CLARITY

SAFETY Three biggest issues of Jakarta are Safety, Continuity and Clarity. It is generally considered unsafe to walk in pedestrian walkway because often, pedestrian have to share the pedestrian walkway with speeding motorcycle, terribly uneven and inadequate footing platform and unlighted pedestrian at night. Other issues are continuity. Many areas in Jakarta doesn’t support a proper transition between different mode of transportation, or simply from one region to another, making walking a pointless effort. Un-Clarity of the space is also commonly found where people feel that the space is not legible and disoriented in city.

INNOVATIVE & CREATIVE COMMUNITY ORIENTED SPACES

The circular economy is typically viewed through an ecological perspective: respecting the environment, preserving resources, reducing waste, etc. But it also offers strong economic advantages such as creating more jobs and improving economic conditions for the locals. For Vida Bekasi there is no better time than now to shift from their linear economy to the circular economy. Over-view of the relationships between the players, the circular economy: • Sharing of knowledge and expertise • The development of local distribution networks, • Responsible consumption and shared infrastructures In addition, the jobs it generates are often tied to the social and solidarity economy. In short, the circular economy in Vida Bekasi does not only preserves the environment, but also creates jobs and business, contributing to a more socially responsible community.
