SCOTTSDALE, AZ LOCATED IN SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA, THIS NEUROLOGY AND NEUROSURGY RECOVERY CENTER IS AN IN-PATIENT FACILITY FOCUSED ON AIDING PATIENTS IN REGAINING THEIR LIVES BACK. THE DESIGN OBJECTIVE FOR THIS PROJECT WAS TO CREATE A SAFE SPACE FOR ALL USERS TO BE COMFORTABLE IN.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
"INPATIENT NEUROREHABILITATION (ALSO KNOWN AS RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION) INVOLVES THE MEDICAL TREATMENT OF
RESEARCH
PATIENTS ON-SITE TO INCORPORATE A HOLISTIC AND STRUCTURED PROGRAM.
WHAT IS IN-PATIENT NEUROLOGY REHABILITATION?
INPATIENT FUNCTION,
NEURO-REHAB REDUCES
IMPROVES
SYMPTOMS,
AND
IMPROVES PATIENTS’ OVERALL WELL-BEING WHO HAVE SUFFERED A BRAIN INJURY."
IN-PATIENT RECOVERY UNITS MUST HAVE COMFORTABLE, FUNCTIONAL FURNITURE
PIECES
THAT
CAN
ACCOMMODATE
ALL
BODIES
AND
EXPERIENCES. FOR THE LOBBY AND FAMILY ROOMS, MULTIPLE KINDS OF SEATING ARE AVAILABLE FOR LONG WAITING PERIODS, AND BOTH BLEACHABLE UPHOLSTERED SEATING AND NON-UPHOLSTERED ARE IMPLEMENTED WITHIN THE SPACES.
RESEARCH DESIGN DRIVERS
FOR
THE
HALLWAYS,
HANDRAILS
ARE
NECESSARY
FOR
THOSE
RECOVERING AS WELL AS CONVENIENT SEATING OPTIONS THAT DO NOT BLOCK THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. THESE ARE IMPLEMENTED AS IN-SET WALL SEATING. THIS ALSO ALLOWS PATIENTS TO AVOID ANYTHING BLOCKING THEIR PATH. ATRIUMS ARE ALSO ADDED FOR EXPOSURE THERAPY. FOR THE PATIENT ROOMS, AN ADJUSTABLE BED IS REQUIRED, AND COMFORTABLE, YET CLEANABLE, SEATING IS NEEDED FOR LONG RECOVERY TIME PERIODS. A PULL-OUT COUCH AND A SIDE CHAIR ARE BOTH INCLUDED.
CONCEPT THE BRAIN IS THE MAIN SOURCE OF INFORMATION, SENDING ALL NECESSARY INSTRUCTIONS TO THE BODY. NERVES ARE COMMUNICATORS TRANSMITTING SIGNALS FROM ONE BODY PART TO ANOTHER. THE NERVOUS SYSTEM IS AN EXACT PARALLEL TO THE IDEAL LAYOUT OF AN IN-PATIENT CARE FACILITY. CENTRALLY LOCATED NURSES STATIONS ALONG WITH A RECEPTION DESK THAT PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE NURSES, AND PASSAGEWAYS CREATE EASY ACCESS TO EVERY ROOM.
