Committed to Developing Close Partnerships with clients and employees

Aventure Staffing and Professional Services has come a long way in helping to fill the large and small gaps in the job market since its beginning in Sioux City in 1983.

placements in the fields of light industrial, office and clerical, a direct-hire division for professionals, and a medical division which hires RNs, LPNs and CNAs.

What began as a temp agency for mostly office-related placements, has expanded 33 years later to eight branches in Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota providing temporary and permanent employees in various fields, and has earned Aventure recognition for client satisfaction.

While Aventure’s Sioux City location has been here for 33 years, other branches have had similar longevity: the Spencer office has been in business for 20 years, and the Sheldon, Iowa, and Norfolk, Neb., branches have been in business for 10 years. Aventure has grown to include locations in Wayne, Neb., and Humboldt and Grinnell, Iowa.

The need for a full service staffing agency in the area is evidenced by the staggering number of placements Aventure makes. In 2015, Aventure issued more than 3,800 W-2s, and more impressively, helped 651 people land permanent jobs. Long gone are the days of the typical “temp agency”. In fact, Aventure provides temporary, temp-to-hire, contract, payrolling and direct hire

This month, Aventure opened its eighth branch in Fairmont, Minn. With the proximity of Aventure’s Spencer, Iowa, branch to Fairmont, the staff recognized a need for a staffing agency there. Sara Pierson, Marketing and Compliance Coordinator at Aventure says the people of Fairmont have been very welcoming to Aventure. “Everyone we have spoken to in Fairmont has expressed their excitement in seeing us join their community.” “We thrive in Midwest markets,” says Pierson. “That’s our niche because we are committed to developing close partnerships with our clients and employees.” Aventure says they provide several advantages to people in all industries, including gaining work experience, having access to job openings from several area employers and flexibility in choosing from full-time or part-time work. Employees in their medical division can choose

a full-time work schedule or work part-time in addition to another full-time career. The staff at Aventure has worked hard to form positive client relationships during the years, and were recognized for that accomplishment in April 2016. The business was awarded Inavero’s Best of Staffing Client Award, based on client surveys administered by Inavero and unknown by Aventure. Aventure Staffing received satisfaction scores of 9 or 10 out of 10 from 71.3 percent of their clients, while the industry average have scores of 9 or 10 from only 27 percent of clients. Aventure has also scored well with its employees. Last week, The Des Moines Register named Aventure Staffing as a 2016 Top Workplace, based on employee feedback surveys conducted by Workplace Dynamics.

Siouxland Ethanol

continues to grow as it moves into its tenth year “Our plant has a lower carbon foot print which is good for the environment and creates more value for our product,” says Pam Miller, director of industry and investor relations and chairwoman of Siouxland Ethanol, LLC. Board of Directors.

JACKSON, Neb. | At its inception, Siouxland Ethanol had the capacity to produce 50 million gallons of ethanol per year. Now as its moves into its tenth year of business, Siouxland Ethanol is producing 70 million gallons per year. Built in a former cornfield near Jackson, Nebraska in 2007, Siouxland Ethanol produces homegrown fuel that helps fuel the economy. As the U.S. output of ethanol continues to grow and alternative blends are becoming more common at gas pumps, Siouxland Ethanol grows to keep up with high demands. In February, the company completed a push that streamlined its processes, tweaked some ingredients and added some new equipment. As a result, capacity grew from 50 to 65 million gallons per year. Siouxland Ethanol, LLC purchases 24 million bushels of local corn per year. This corn, purchased within a 60-mile radius of the Jackson, Nebraska, plant, is processed into ethanol, a renewable, sustainable energy resource that improves America’s energy security by reducing the reliance on imported oil. “The use of ethanol in your vehicle means you will have higher octane, which gives your vehicle more power, and reduces toxic emissions,” says Pam Miller, director of industry and investor relations at Siouxland Ethanol. “Ethanol reduces the amount of aromatics that oil companies

add into their regular gas.” Research has shown that the three aromatic chemicals present: (benzene, toluene and xylene) produce carcinogenic effects and additional harmful health issues, especially in young children. “Our plant has a lower carbon foot print which is good for the environment and creates more value for our product,” says Miller. The company recently received approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for their Efficient Producer Pathway that requires a 20 percent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This reduction is significantly lower than the emission level of oil refineries. The EPA writes and enforces regulations bases on laws passed by Congress to protect human health and the environment. Their fight to reduce greenhouse gases across the country is ongoing. Since the plant opened their doors, methane gas has been purchased from the nearby LP Gill Landfill. Methane gas displaces nearly 13 percent of Siouxland Ethanol’s natural gas needs and boosts the plant’s carbon-intensity score. This gives ethanol from Siouxland Ethanol a premium value in the California market and other markets that are working to lower their carbon footprint. The local corn processed at the plant doesn’t just make ethanol. The company produces over 20 million pounds of corn oil per year and sells the product to bio-diesel refineries. Over 200,000 tons of distiller grains are sold as modified wet to local cattle feeders with some distiller grains dried further and sold to poultry and swine farmers. “Ethanol production is based on a lowest-cost-producer model, and we intend to be the lowest-cost producer of ethanol in the area,” Miller said in a March interview with the Sioux City Journal. “We’re looking to take advantage for our shareholders by increasing production, and it will allow for an increase in the bottom line.” Siouxland Ethanol’s 24/7 facility is managed by Nick Bowdish, president and CEO with a 12-member board of directors and supported by 700 local investors, most living within a 100-mile radius of Jackson. Miller, board of directors chairwoman, was one of the founders of Siouxland Ethanol. An $8.5 million plant expansion will boost capacity by an additional 15 percent and help the plant run more efficiently for their 38 employees. The expansion will be completed by the end of December.

Approaching their one year anniversary, the Sioux City 4 Brothers Grill & Bar is very happy with how everything is going at the restaurant. Open since late November of 2015, the restaurant features many of the brothers, families and landmarks of Sioux City that have had a strong presence in the establishment of the city. “That is what sets us apart from a national chain, the friendly family atmosphere. We want our customers to feel a part of the family, as our saying goes - ‘come as friends, leave as brothers,’” stated Jim Brown, manager of the Sioux City 4 Brothers Grill & Bar. 4 Brothers provides a comfortable atmosphere where friends can meet up for appetizers and drinks or a family can sit down for a nice dinner. Brown said people who visit the Sioux City 4 Brothers restaurant are loving the service and asking for their favorite wait staff, they are remarking on the decor, and they are often becoming repeat customers. 4 Brothers serves comfort food with a twist. Menu favorites include the Prime Rib Dip, the Omaha (Reuben), the Highender (an open-faced beef sandwich), Spicy Shrimp appetizers, New York Strip and Rib eye steaks, and the Chicken Carbonara. For fall, the restaurant plans to add two appetizers, a Soft Pretzel Bite and Lucky Lad’s Nachos made with crispy kettle chips, a chef’s salad entree, chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, and creamy chicken pesto. They will also add a couple of sandwiches, including the Porky Pig and Cheese, which is like a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, only it is made with thin sliced ham, Havarti cheese and a Pretzilla bun. It is finished with a piece of grilled pineapple. “It’s like a ham and cheese sandwich with a higher class bun,” he said. The Sioux City location is excited to open their new patio. It is a great place to enjoy an evening out with friends, to catch the games on one of the outdoor televisions or to sit around the fire pit. “It’s a really nice area,” Brown said. In the future, they plan to have live music out on the patio. The original restaurant, 4 Brothers Grill & Bar in Le Mars, Iowa, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in January. It was started in 2007 by the Kass family, which also owns the popular destination Bob’s Drive Inn in Le Mars. “The food business is what we know. It’s what we are passionate about,” said Clint Kass, co-owner of 4 Brothers Grill & Bar. Since 4 Brothers has opened a second location in Sioux City, Kass has noticed an increase in business. “A lot of people knew us in Sioux City. It has helped us grow as a business,” he said. At first, their biggest concern was getting their brand name out there, but things worked out better than expected and they saw a 5-10 percent increase in business with the second location. “We’re thrilled with the overall growth,” he said. Like the Sioux City location, the Le Mars restaurant is focusing on changing their menu for the fall season. In addition, it is bringing out 18 different draft beers for Oktoberfest. The 4 Brothers in Le Mars is still offering its weekly specials, including Burger Night, which features a half-pound burger and fries for $5.59. “It’s the one day that is kind of neat,” the third-generation restaurateur said. “All of the locals come out and socialize. You get to run into everyone you know.” Kass said 4 Brothers believes in contributing to both communities where their restaurants are located. “We believe in staying active in the community, and helping different organizations is vital. We donate gift cards to different charities, as well as cater the Boys & Girls Club of Siouxland Steak Dinner, he said. For more information about 4 Brothers Grill & Bar, call the Le Mars location at 712-548-4444 or the Sioux City location at 712-225-4444, or visit them online at4brothersgrill.com and 4brothersbarandgrill.com.

A GLOBAL LEADER in pet health nutrition!

(President – Keith Levy, the Governor – Dennis Dugarrd & the NSC Mayor – Randy Frederickson)

Royal Canin is a global leader in pet health nutrition. We tailor precise nutritional formulations to the real needs of cats and dogs of different sizes, ages, breeds and lifestyles, and with specific needs. Our product offerings include a line of therapeutic diets referred by a veterinarian and full line of healthy pet diets available through select retailers. At Royal Canin, we develop our products to meet the specific needs of each cat and dog. Through extensive scientific research and ongoing dialogue with pet professionals, veterinarians and pet owners, we strive to help make a better world for pets. Our mission is to constantly bring, through Health Nutrition and shared knowledge, the most precise nutritional solution for every cat and dog. Mars, Inc. purchased the plant in 2007 and began producing Royal Canin and Mars Petcare brands. The site became a Royal Canin plant in 2010. This particular facility produces the Royal Canin brand wet formulas and employs approximately 185 associates. Our quality and food safety systems are stateof-the-art and we will continue to invest in new technology to ensure they remain that way. The new North Sioux City manufacturing facility will be built to meet leading-edge environmental standards, and will pursue a LEED Gold Certified designation upon completion. Royal Canin’s focus continues to be around improving the lives of cats and dogs through innovations in individualized nutrition.

The North Sioux City Expansion, scheduled to begin production in April of 2019, will help us meet the demands of growth for our products specifically in our wet formulas. We seek to encourage and help develop the humananimal bond through community activities like pet adoption events and supporting pet related events in the community. “Royal Canin could’ve built a new plant anywhere in the country,” said South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard was quoted as saying in July, “but after thoughtful deliberation, the company chose to remain in South Dakota.” Royal Canin’s decision to remain in South Dakota will continue to be a boost for the state, and the surrounding communities in Iowa and Nebraska. We have launched a few new products this year, including a comprehensive line of veterinary-exclusive therapeutic treats to complement our line of veterinary-exclusive therapeutic diets. We also launched our portfolio of MultiFunction formulas product line that provides a nutritional solution for cats and dogs with multiple health condition. We also launched breed specific wet formulas for Chihuahua, Dachsund, Poodle, and Yorkshire Terrier and the Maine Coon cat. Royal Canin continues to invest in the Siouxland community by locating its new state-of-the-art wet production facility. We are investing $100 million into this facility and we are committed to manufacturing in the United States to continue to meet our growth projections. As part of the groundbreaking ceremony earlier this year,

we donated 10,000 pounds of pet food to Siouxland Humane Society and Noah’s Hope to local shelter pets in need. In order to create pet Health Nutrition that makes a difference for cats and dogs, we maintain respect for their fundamental animal nature and unique nutritional needs. At all times and in all ways, pets are at the center of everything we do. Royal Canin is also the presenting sponsor of the AKC National Championship. The event, which has been renamed “The AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin,” is the largest dog show in North America, offering the most prize money in the world of dog sports. This show will take place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, December 17 through 18 of this year.

The Siouxland Gutter Guys know their gutters, and they know what can happen when a homeowner doesn’t have quality gutters installed the proper way.

“Gutters get plugged up or downspouts don’t drain the proper way. Then you have water in the basement and it’s not a cheap fix,” says Lorn Rogge, owner of Siouxland Gutter Guys in South Sioux City. “Even with leaf guards on, if the gutters don’t flow the properly the leaf guards aren’t going to work.” Rogge opened Siouxland Gutter Guys in 1999, and has employees who have been putting gutters on and providing free estimates for more than 20 years. The Gutter Guys install 5- and 6-inch seamless gutters and corresponding downspouts, available in a variety of colors, on residential and commercial buildings, as well as inspection and repairs to existing gutters. Leaf protection on gutters can make a world of difference in the effectiveness for homeowners, Rogge says, as well as eliminating work and maintenance. “Most people believe they can clean their gutters out a few times a year,” Rogge says.

“But if you clean your gutters out today, and it rains hard tonight and the wind blows, your gutters can be plugged again. It’s a constant thing.” The cost of leaf guards can also far outweigh the cost of other mishaps while cleaning gutters, such as falling off the ladder and having a major medical incident, Rogge says. “It’s one of those jobs people really don’t want to have to do,” he says. To eliminate those issues by installing the best in leaf guard protection, look no further than Siouxland Gutter guys. “I truly believe we are the best in Siouxland with leaf guard protection installation because we are so thorough with how we do it and we make sure it works properly,” Rogge says. Siouxland Gutter Guys offers two styles of leaf guards. The LeaFree gutter covers offer a lifetime warranty and the luxury of never having to clean gutters again. The aluminum gutter cover slides under the first row of shingles and extends out over the gutter, anchored by screws in the lip of

the gutter. Water is able to run through while the cover keeps leaves and debris out. The LeaFree gutter covers are available in 15 colors. The second style is the GutterRx – a screen that fits and is installed inside the gutter. It protects the gutters from clogs and pests while providing extra stability to the gutters. It has a 16-year warranty. Rogge and his crew also install aluminum soffit and fascia. Soffit and fascia, while providing an aesthetic look to the building, work with gutters and downspouts to provide protection from water damage to homes and businesses. Bridging The Gap Between

YOU AND TECHNOLOGY Our single focus is your success. CSI-When IT matters! CSI L.L.C. dba Computer Service Innovations

is a professional Information Technology (IT) consulting firm that provides sales and support services to a number of businesses small, medium and large. A pre-eminent Managed Service Provider, CSI has more than 20 years of experience assisting businesses with all of their IT needs: virtual CIO(VCIO), infrastructure design, hardware and software, networking, security and protection, disaster recovery, and cloud solutions, as well as business intelligence and analytics. When businesses sign up for CSI’s Managed Services, they pay one monthly fee for total IT support. Being a Managed Service Provider involves handling all aspects of IT within a business environment, including hardware, software, dealing with vendors, malware and data protection, among others. “We can provide services that are traditionally outsourced. More than that, we can perform risk assessments to your computer systems and offer controlled access to your data. We offer Cloud solutions so you can access applications that are hosted somewhere else via a secured connection, usually an off-site portal,” CSI Vice President Blake Levasseur said. “You can rely on us to help you access what you need to access. We have enough experience to know what data belongs in the cloud and what doesn’t.” CSI’s clients range from A to Z, from the small one person business all the way to the large academic organizations, hospital systems, retail, manufacturing and everything in between. CSI provides a comprehensive solution to manage devices, networks, users, desktops, security and data. No matter what industry you’re in or what services you need, CSI’s team of Dell, Cisco, Lenovo,

Microsoft, Sonic Wall and Cyberscience certified technicians, programmers and trainers will keep your IT systems up and running, so you can serve your customers. “We have all of the necessary resources in place to encapsulate IT whether you’re at home or at the office to your living room. In today’s business environment, there are a lot of remote employees who work outside of the traditional company office and need to reach the office from home. We provide innovative technical solutions to bridge the gap between you and technology,” said Levasseur. “We keep your business up and running with a variety of technology and services. We call it business continuity,” he said. “It’s a full-time job keeping applications up and running, protecting them from threats, and ensuring data is archived so there is the potential to access it at a later date.” The full-service business can design, install and troubleshoot your networks’ infrastructure. CSI works with wireless networks and top-of-the-line cabling and fiber solutions to design and implement businesses’ complete data and voice infrastructure. In addition, they provide Network Operations Center Services to help companies monitor and provide fast response to outages on their networks. CSI’s 24 x 7 operations center processes network alerts following client-stipulated procedures, on a committed and flexible Service Level Agreement (SLA). When businesses face a disaster, such as a fire, flood, power outage, etc. CSI helps with their mission-critical data and systems safe. CSI’s Business Continuity solutions capture changes to data, applications, and critical system objects in real time, and replicate them to alternate backup servers. More importantly, they enable controlled, non-intrusive switching with fast reliable fail over to meet any emergency.

Another service that CSI offers as a Managed Service Provider is business intelligence and analytics. “Business intelligence and analytics gives your organization the ability to access the data needed out of all the information in your network. You have to be able to access data when you need it and have the ability to report on that data. We make sure data is accessed as needed and archived for future retrieval,” he said. “In order for that data to be accessed, it has to be labeled correctly. Businesses look to CSI to take care of those things.” “Businesses need to be able to get information in one place, so they can easily report, analyze and search it. We specialize in understanding all levels of business intelligence and analytics that are conducive to business,” Levasseur said. CSI’s Managed Services can provide everything you need to reduce your business’s service costs, and increase customer satisfaction by delivering high levels of IT availability and performance. The type of windows you have in your home can impact your household budget and environment.

If you have old, drafty windows, chances are a lot of your heat or cooled air is escaping, costing you money on your energy bills and polluting the environment. Replacing your windows with energy efficient products from Window World of Siouxland can save you up to 35 percent on heating and cooling costs and protect the environment. Window World windows are already designed for superior thermal performance, but the SolarZone Insulated Glass Packages offered by Window World take windows to a whole new level. Window World’s SolarZone Insulated Glass Packages feature Low-E glass, argon gas and a Duarlite warm-edge spacer system, so you can reduce your energy use even more, while helping cut consumption of the fossil fuels that pollute our environment. Window World offers many ENERGY STAR qualified glass packages. SolarZone Insulated Glass Packages are so effective because they combine UV-filtering Low-E glass, insulating argon and a warm-edge spacer system to create significant energy efficiency. Together they can cut damaging UV energy, which can lead to fading of carpets, curtains and furniture. These insulated glass packages have proven to be far more effective than ordinary clear glass units. The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy, developed a rating system for window product performance. If you want to take energy saving to a even more extreme level Window World’s 6000 series offers Triple-pane glass with a foam-enhanced mainframe results in superior thermal performance. One of the most critical NFRC tests is for the window’s U-Value, which measures a window’s resistance to heat transfer. The lower the U-Value, the better the window is at resisting heat flow, which results in a window with a greater insulating value. Another critical NFRC test measures the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). This procedure measures how well a window blocks heat caused by sunlight. Again, the lower the number, the less of the sun’s solar heat the

window transmits into the home.

The center of glass U-value of SolarZone Insulating Glass is 50 percent better than standard insulating glass. In summer, up to a 58 percent reduction in solar heat gain helps reduce air conditioning costs. The result: SolarZone Insulated Glass Packages can help you save on energy and cooling costs while keeping your home more comfortable.

World windows. They meet the high standards and criteria set by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building System to encourage and accelerate green building practices across the building industry.

While you’re enjoying the comfort that Window World windows provide, you can also feel good knowing that they conserve natural resources. The materials used to make every Window World window sash and mainframe are 100 percent recyclable, making it easy to go green.

In addition to being energy efficient and green, Window World windows are visually pleasing and easy to operate. The windows’ beautiful lines flow into the rest of the home, improving its aesthetics and adding curb appeal.

Window World’s windows result in less waste and more product because they are made of vinyl, which can be reprocessed and recycled repeatedly. Vinyl windows are recognized as an enviromentally preferable product because the leading component in the production of vinyl is common salt, an inert natural resource. In addition, vinyl window products weigh less than other substrate window products, requiring less energy consumption during transportation. Their windows are also durable, another environmental advantage. The longer a product lasts, the less energy and other resources must be used to make replacement products. Window World windows benefit your home environment as well. The warm-edge spacer systems available in Window World windows are up to 16 degrees warmer at the edge of the insulated glass unit, making them more efficient than standard metal spacers. This in turn helps to reduce condensation, which leads to mold and an unhealthy environment. The reduced maintenance required by Window World windows means no painting, staining or stripping - ever. Many paints, stains and stripping agents release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere, which contribute to atmospheric pollutant levels. If you would like your home to go green, it’s as easy as choosing quality vinyl windows such as Window

Window World is committed to being green and helping you create a home that will provide beauty and security for a lifetime of enjoyment.

When you add curb appeal with new Window World windows, you increase the value of your home. According to Remodeling Magazine’s 2010-2011 Cost vs. Value Report, vinyl windows recoup an average of 71 percent of the initial investment...making this a home improvement project that pays in both comfort and return. Window World’s windows have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal, a symbol of quality that will give you even greater peace of mind. With Window World, you get a superior product at guaranteed low prices.

WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa has added three new amenities to make their resort even more fun and enjoyable for the whole family. The casino resort recently unveiled its new NonSmoking Room. Open for a little more than a month, the Non-Smoking Room features more than 70 slot machines. “We’re the only casino in this part of the state to have a non-smoking room,” said Travis Morgan, marketing director at WinnaVegas. “You walk in there, and it’s a completely different animal.” Another exciting addition is a Golf Simulator Room with a pair of top-flight golf simulators for guests to play. The brand of golf simulator used in their Golf Simulator room is the only one endorsed by the PGA golf tour, and can double as a big-screen television, Morgan said. The Golf Simulators feature 35 professional golf courses. Three mini golf courses and digital skee ball are also available for children. Users who have experienced golf simulators in general consider the golf simulators at WinnaVegas to be the best simulators in the Sioux City market because the club’s distance is really accurate. WinnaVegas will be starting golf leagues this winter. Food and drinks are served in the Golf Simulator room, so people can call to order what they want, he said. Another new amenity recently installed at WinnaVegas is the video game room. It features six different stations - two with Play Station 4, two with XBox One and two with Wii U. Games in the system pop up on the screens.

Children 12 and under play free in the video game room. “We have big-screen TVs with headsets, and it’s FREE!” he said. “We have been adding entertainment for kids. The video game room is great because now you don’t have to be over 21 to be at WinnaVegas,” he said. The recently added amenities allow the resort to offer entertainment for everyone in the family. “We have lived up to being a resort,” he said. “We have lodging, a hotel, and activities that are tailored to our guests so each member of the family can go out and do their own thing.” Don’t miss one of their upcoming attractions in October, King of the Cage, which WinnaVegas hosts every three months. King of the Cage Social Disorder is coming Oct. 8. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and fights begin at 6 p.m. The fight will be aired LIVE on MAVTV. “This event gives local fighters in Sioux City national exposure,” he said. “It’s a great stepping stone for the fighters. Sioux City’s Premier Industrial Electrical Service Mid States Electric, Sioux City’s premier industrial electrical service, is looking for a few good men and women. Now in its 25th year of business, Mid States continues to attract large project clients throughout the Midwest. Known and valued for exceptional workmanship, Mid States Electric aims to keep a strong and skilled workforce for the company’s projects in varied industries. “We are well-versed in many different industries – food processing, biodiesel, wind energy, ethanol industry, crude oil and government projects,” says Brian Henschen, who co-owns the company with his brother Jim Henschen and business partner Justin Hamer While most of Mid States’ work is with Tyson Foods at several different locations, the electrical company is also working on the current CF Industries project at Port Neal south of Sioux City and at the Seaboard Triumph Food plant construction in Sioux City. Other projects have included working for the Army Corps of Engineers on the Gavin’s Point Dam in Yankton, S.D., with crude oil industries in Oklahoma, and Valero Ethanol and Flint Hills Resources ethanol plants. Mid States specializes in heavy industrial electrical needs, as well as fiber optic installation, medium-voltage installations (up to 35,000 watts) and electrical motors up to and more than 1,000 horsepower. Although the projects sound huge, the onthe-job training provided by Mid States fits employees off all skill levels. “We are always looking for good employees – good entry-level people, people who have an eagerness to learn, people who are mechanically inclined and have a good mechanical aptitude, people who can travel,”

Henschen says. “We have a very good crew and a very knowledgeable crew, and we want to continue that.” New hires are first and foremost trained in safety, followed by an orientation with Mid States, then training in the shop to learn basics before entering the field. Once on a project, the new hire is assigned a mentor/ trainer, who will work with them side-byside for two weeks. When able, the new hire is assigned tasks on their own, while still working closely with trained employees. “That’s a great way to get them up to speed and doing the job safely,” Henschen says. “We have a huge focus on safety, and a huge focus on knowledgeable and qualified employees.” While travel may be required, Henschen says employees are typically not out of town for more than two weeks at a time. After a year of employment, Mid States will enroll the employee in a U.S. Department of Labor-approved apprenticeship training program to become an Iowa licensed journeyman. The four-year program, including tuition and books, is paid by Mid-States. “They complete their formal classroom training while doing on-the-job training, making it a great way to earn while you learn,” Henschen says. “Then we do everything we can to help them pass the test to become a licensed journeyman.” With the support of a good employer, onthe-job training with an emphasis on safety, and the opportunity to become licensed in a trade, taking a job at Mid States is quite appealing. “We have excellent programs in place and excellent training,” Henschen says. “But also, what we do is pretty darn cool.”

The program will kick off again on Nov. 1st and we are hoping to help even more children,” Cole said. Ryan Trotter, Woodhouse Sioux City sales manager, said although Woodhouse Sioux City is in its

Whether football, date night, bowling or company party,

RUSH WERKS HAS IT ALL FOR

famly fun!

The go-to place for Siouxland families is Rush Werks, where mom and dad can enjoy Sunday afternoon football games on television and the kids can bowl for strikes. Rush Werks, at 3828 Stadium Drive in Sioux City, is home to Clyde’s Grill and Pub, and Rush Lanes. But it isn’t “just a bar” or “just a bowling alley.” “We’re so much more than that,” says Tracy Erlandson, Rush Werks general manager. “We’re never going to compete with bars with beer games, and we don’t want to. This is completely different than it used to be. This is where families go – we have all kinds of fun stuff.” Rush Werks’ Sunday Fun Day is in full swing during football season. NFL games play all day in Clyde’s on 25 high-definition televisions and one incredible 120-inch screen. Parents can enjoy the variety of menu items, $6 pitchers of domestic beer, and $3 kids’ meals. When done eating, mom and dad can stay to watch the games, and the kids can head over to Rush Lanes to enjoy $10 unlimited cosmic bowling – bowling with black lights, neon and strobe lights. Unlimited bowling runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Family and kids’ movies also play in Rush Lanes during bowling. “It’s a great way to have a ‘date night’ without the need for a babysitter,”

Erlandson says. To continue the football fun for Monday Night Football, bowling games are buy-one-get-one-free on Mondays. Starting at 3 p.m., Clyde’s opens for Mexi-Cali night – great Mexican dishes in addition to the regular menu. Plus, football fans can enjoy 25-cent wings during the game! The second Tuesday of the month has seen the addition of wine tastings, starting at 6:30 p.m. For $25, attendees feast off featured wines paired with foods specially prepared by the chef at Clyde’s. A reservation is required. The next wine tasting is Oct. 11. Rush Werks hosts special events and parties as well. Kids’ birthday parties at Rush Lanes are $9 per child and include 90 minutes of bowling, discounts on food and pizza, and a souvenir bowling pin for guests to autograph for the birthday boy or girl. Rush Werks has the ability to host corporate and private parties for up to 100 people. Businesses have enjoyed renting the bowling alley for family days for employees and holiday parties. Other clients book trainings at Clyde’s to take advantage of the 120-inch viewing screen for PowerPoint presentations and videos. The recent remodel and extension of Clyde’s outdoor patio provides additional room for gatherings and events, such as bachelor and bachelorette parties.
