Fall in Love with Quilting
An event for all quilters

Quilting has seen an upsurge in recent years. For example, in Sioux Falls, approximately 135 quilting enthusiasts belong to the Sioux Falls Quilters’ Guild. Organized in 1986, the group welcomes all quilters, experienced or novice. It encourages a broader appreciation of quilting by raising and maintaining design standards, individual ideas, and expression, while keeping interest alive by promoting local quilting activities.
This year, the theme of the guild’s annual quilt show is “Fall in Love with Quilting,” and it features over 300 amazing quilts crafted by guild members. Scheduled from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 9, 2021, and 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 10 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, the event also offers a luncheon/trunk show and quilting class presented by Nancy McNally. According to guild member and co-chairman of the quilt show committee Cheryl Nelson, “This is a perfect place to get inspired about doing your first quilt project or finding a new quilting challenge for the seasoned quilter.” Tickets are $7.00 and are available at the Convention Center during the show hours only.
In keeping with the show theme, Nelson explains the purpose of the event by saying, “We want to share the art of quilting with quilters and non-quilters alike and inspire them to expand their knowledge and appreciation of the art of quilting. Many people think of the utility quilts that were made by their grandmothers when they think of quilting.” She continues, “Quilting has expanded into a true art form.”
Vendors at the show include regional quilt shops that will present the newest quilt fabrics, wools, and heirloom stitching supplies. In addition, industry leader Fonder Sewing will display an array of sewing, embroidery, and long-arm machines for

attendees to use and practice learning the latest features. Nelson feels that those who attend the event will be inspired by the vendors sharing their quilting ideas and supplies. She says, “This is much like a quilter’s extravaganza!”
In addition to the vendors and activities planned, a silent auction benefiting the Veterans Appreciation Fund will feature items made and donated by guild members. With the wide variety of workshops, vendors, and beautiful quilts displayed at the show, Nelson says, “There will be something for everyone, traditional and modern sewers, first-time quilters, younger quilters, artists, and crafters.” n
