DIY Pinecone Door Hanger

Story & Photos by Emily Olson

SUPPLIES

• 8-10 pinecones, variety of sizes • Small eye screws • 3/8” velvet ribbon • E6000 (or other craft glue) • Hook • Wire • Drill

This holiday season create a quick and easy alternative to the traditional door wreath. A pinecone door hanger creates a casual, rustic welcome during the holidays and all winter long. Customize ribbon type and color to match your décor or even use thick twine for a more natural look. It can easily go beyond the door, hung from a shelf, mantle or wall hook.

DIRECTIONS

Use the drill to make a hole into the bottom of the pinecones, as close to the center as possible. The drill bit should be a slightly smaller gauge than the screw eye for a tight fit.

Cut the ribbon to the desired length for the drop of the pinecones, with longer ribbon used for the larger pinecones and shorter for the smaller ones. This project used single-faced velvet ribbon doubled with the back sides together, creating the look of double-faced velvet.

Feed the ribbon through the screw eye. If doubling the ribbon to see velvet on both sides, continue feeding the ribbon through until the eye is at the half-way point. If leaving the ribbon single-faced, feed the ribbon through ½ inch. Apply E6000 or other craft glue to adhere the ribbon to itself, holding the eye in place.

Insert the screw eye with ribbon into the hole on the bottom of the pinecone.

Gather the ribbon strands near the top and arrange the pinecones as they hang down. Adjust the drop of the pinecones to create the best shape and use a thin piece of wire to secure all the strands together.

Cut the ends of the ribbon on an angle so that they are similar length above the gather.

Tie a new piece of velvet around the gather to disguise the wire. n

CORNERSTONE FINANCIAL MOVES TO SOUTHERN SIOUX FALLS Meticulously designed building tailored for clients

MyCFSgroup.com info@MyCFSgroup.com Previously located in downtown Sioux Falls on Phillips Avenue, Cornerstone Financial made the move to the South side of the city because it had outgrown its current office space.

At approximately 6,000 square feet, Cornerstone Financial’s new building is approximately three times larger than the previous office space, allowing the organization flexibility for future growth while keeping their focus on their clients’ experience.

“From start to finish, the building was designed with our clients in mind. Each feature and design element reflects Cornerstone’s brand and client-first, family-like culture,” said Cornerstone Partner and RJFS Wealth Advisor, Richelle Hofer.

The building reflects Cornerstone’s values in every last detail. Designed by Nicole Higgins, owner of Regal & Rust Interiors, the brand was carried throughout the building with visual elements such as doors finished in “Cornerstone Navy,” copper accents throughout, and timeless and elegant materials such as tweed. Nicole shares, “One of my main goals was to design a building and interior that evokes the Cornerstone experience, but also has a great function and flow.” Upon entering the

building, you see the lobby and reception area flanking a large multi-purpose room where Cornerstone can hold client education and social events. Hallways leading to client meeting rooms branch from the reception area, and staff offices circle the perimeter of the building. “Cornerstone delivers on their brand promise through their performance and the ‘Cornerstone Experience.’ I communicated that throughout the building by selecting materials that reflect the brand’s personality including warmth, security and dependability.”

“Nicole is absolutely fantastic. She embraced our vision and brand promise, then interpreted it using texture, materials, and color. Our clients can feel confident that we pay attention to every detail of your finances, and we wanted to carry that feeling through into the new offices. She accomplished that beautifully,” smiles Richelle.
