Personal Statement I am a highly passionate urban design student expected to graduate with a first-class-honour degree from Chulalongkorn University. My next goal as I progress towards my career is to look for inspiring international urban design projects which allow me to gain in experience and learn a different culture of urban design. I am well prepared and motivated to be working on exciting and challenging projects which I can use to further develop my analytical and design skills in a professional environment. I strongly believe that everyone deserves to live in a good place and that the urban design profession plays a vital role in shaping cities to benefit people. With my passion, I know that I can make a difference in the environment around me as an urban design professional.

Sukhumvit URBAN COMMONS
ISSUE Current urban developments failed to provide a place for social activities and optional activities. Informal public life is disappearing from the city. Sukhumvit once was an suburb where people lived as a family. They shared private space and socialize with neighbors. When Bangkok city started to expand, Sukhumvit became outer residential area with townhouses and apartments which provide open spaces for kids. But after the booming of real estate and automobiles, the life on the street disappeared. There’s no places for original residents and new residents to interact and connect. People tend to spend more time outside of their houses which have limited living space because the technology make freedom of workplace and trend of sharing economy possible.

Based on the study of the patterns of social activity areas and the behavior of the user in Sukhumvit, there is a high possibility that commons area in Sukhumvit will not be developed ideally as a totally free private space. But it will focus on the balance between free and charge aspect to benefit most parties. When analyzed in terms of space, it is possible to divide place by activity and user into 3 major zones: District Commons accommodating people from both inside and outside the area such as residents, employees, and visitors. Neighborhood Commons mostly accommodating the residents in the neighborhood. Nightlife Commons where the main users are employees in the neighborhood and visitors. Promote connection from each point in the network by walking on public street and shared private space Urban Commons concept will scatter the economic spots which was concentrated in buildings throughout the district. This allows a simultaneous network development of socio-economic area throughout the district.

Multifunctional device that can transform to accommadate many poses. Inspired by Jacob’s Ladder, a toy made by blocks of wood connected by three ribbons which enable it to flip over step by step. We use cardboard to create 40-centimeter cubes that must be hung from the ceiling in place of tradition blocks of wood as seen in the final form.
