Message from our Executive Director

Dear SIRE Riders and Families: Welcome to SIRE’s First Annual ALL-SIRE Horse Show. This is an exciting day that provides you the opportunity to showcase your skills, make new friends, and have fun! Today we have more than 50 riders from our Ft. Bend, Hockley and Spring Sites competing in Equitation, Showmanship, Trail, Ride a Buck, Suitcase Race and the Pole/Ring relay. Whether this is your first time in a horse show, or you are a seasoned competitor, it is a very special opportunity to demonstrate the progress you’ve made, experience competition, and to show off for your family and friends. We are so proud of all that you have accomplished; maybe it’s holding your reins, sitting ups straight, or posting the trot. The true winning isn’t based on the color of ribbon received; instead, it’s based on your effort. Although we wish you the BEST OF LUCK, we know your successes are because of your practice and hard work. All of you are winners! Thank you for being part of the “SIRE Family” Go TEAM SIRE! Lili Kellogg Executive Director

Class Descriptions English Equitation - In this event, riders use an English saddle and tack. They are judged on seat and hand positions and their ability to communicate with the horse such skills as transitions, halts, walk, circles and reverses. Depending on class divisions, riders will be asked to trot or canter their horses. Western Equitation - This event is similar to English Equitation except that riders will be using a Western saddle and tack. They are judged on seat and hand positions and their ability to communicate with the horse such skills as transitions, halts, walk, circles and reverses. Depending on class divisions, riders will be asked to trot or lope their horses. Trail - Trail is an obstacle course for the horse and rider and provides a reasonable, fair test of skill levels. The rider is judged on performing the course in sequence and demonstrating that he is initiating all steering and basic control of the horse. Showmanship at Halter - In this event, the contestant is judged on his ability to present the horse at halter. Points also are given on care and grooming of the horse by the contestant. The conformation of the horse will not be judged. Suitcase Relay- the competitors will ride to a barrel that has a suitcase on top. They will be required to put on one item from the suitcase (a bracelet, a scarf, etc.) and then ride back to let their teammate take a turn. Ride-A-Buck—each rider will have a play $100 bill positioned under each knee. The rider who is last to lose his “money will win the class. Ring-to-Cone Relay -take a ring off a cone, carry it to another cone and place it on. They will then hurry back to their teammate who will repeat the task.
