When I do an online search, I am constantly reminded of how vitally important Wikipedia is. Serving as a community run encyclopedia, it is usually one of the first entries on the results page in most search engines. Like most, you have probably wondered how do companies or clients get listed in Wikipedia or if! already listed, how best to optimize. Wikipedia maintains an infamously non-commercial stance, written collaboratively by largely anonymous Internet volunteers who write without pay. Anyone with Internet access can write and make changes to Wikipedia articles (except in cases where editing is restricted to prevent disruption or vandalism). Users can contribute anonymously, under a pseudonym, or with their real identity, if they choose. How do you successfully add a page to Wikipedia about your brand? At the very least, you must make sure that your site is credible. By Wikipedia’s standards, a topic is generally considered credible if it has been featured in an authoritative publication that is independent of the topic source. And most of all, this citation must be referenceable. Not all web sites or publications are considered authoritative, reliable or important to the Wikipedia editors.
