First Race of the Year Michelle Ng | Historian January 3rd, just two more days until school restarts, Arroyo Key Club attended the 2015 New Year’s Race. Late at night high school students gathered together to volunteer at various water stations throughout the course. The night was freezing, everyone was shivering, but it did not stop us from doing what we love. Unlike other water stations, our coordinators provided us with hand warmers which made the night bearable. Towards the end of this year’s race we challenged our fellow key clubbers from another school to a spirit battle. The winner was never decided, but the runners were pleased by our energy, allowing them to enjoy the rest of the race.

Emerald Necklace Michelle Yee | Historian
On January 10, 17, and 24, Arroyo’s key clubbers gathered together to fix up parks throughout our community. Working with the non-profit organization, Amigos de Los Rios, and help Honda people, we were able to get down and dirty since they provide the supplies and we provide the man power. Each key clubber grabbed rakes, shovels, trash bags, and a useful tool called “hori hori”. Together we removed weeds and any unnecessary plants that took up nutrients from the native plants. We gave trees a trim and actually had a chance to plant more trees as well as a plant known as Lupin. #IPlantThat. Throughout the entire day, the volunteers did a great Durfee Elementar job fixing up each park especially since the sunlight made it extremely hot and difficult to work. Sweat was pouring down our backs but no one stop working. In the end each park looked better then how it was in the beginning and we were proud for that. 6

Conclave 2015 Brenda Chow | President It’s that time of the year again, election day. Soon after the DCM key clubbers from all over region 13 gather together to vote for the next lieutenant governor at the 2015 Conclave. It took approximately five long hours but the sight was unimaginable. Twelve brave candidates took the floor that day, however only five could have been elected. From our division, 35 West, the candidates were Ryan Tan (Arcadia), Austin Ly (Glen A. Wilson), Jason Terrazas (Sierra Vista), and Frances Austria (Arcadia). Each candidate deserve to be recognized for having the courage to go on stage, facing over one hundred key clubbers and presenting their speech. Time was ticking as one by one each candidate entered caucus section. During this time they must answer question given to them by the audience. It was not easy but each seal made it through. After the last caucus section, delegates gather together to cast their votes. It was not an easy decision but the votes were in. The next lieutenant governor for the term 2015-2016 is‌Austin Ly. 9
