Together We Are Stronger

T

his yearbook is full of extraordinary evidence of your talent and character, and as you prepare for your next adventures in life, look back on your time at Sotogrande with affection and pride. You have built and developed your character in extraordinary ways at Sotogrande, and these will doubtless lead to deserved success and achievement – but the real impact of this is greater than that. Think of your school experiences, and the summits that you have scaled, as building the roots of your tree of life. In your brilliant futures you will see your leaves and branches flourishing visibly – but it will be the roots that you have built in your time at Sotogrande that will hold you steady in the inevitable storms that life throws at us.

Y

ou have shown us such great resilience, zest and self-belief – now draw down on this character, as a tree does through its roots, to remember that anything is possible; let your character be the safety net as you set yourself the highest challenges.

I am hugely grateful to the brilliant team at Sotogrande for all they have enabled you to achieve – and thank each of you for your hard work and commitment to the ethos and heart of this great school. In a somewhat troubled world, I am deeply optimistic about a future in your hands. I wish you every future success and happiness.

Head of SIS Every year seems to pass so quickly. When I take time to stop and reflect on the activities, accomplishments and points of celebration, it makes me smile. I honestly love this school, the energy that the community provides, the focus and dedication of staff, the open-mindedness and willingness to engage in opportunities of students and the support and trust of the parents. For me, this is what makes this school and our community different. It’s what gets me out of bed each morning and drives our school, and me, to improve year upon year. I would like to thank and congratulate our dedicated staff, who artfully guide and support our students through the IB courses, the exam preparation and the exams themselves. They are a true credit to our school! Firstly, we must commend the IB Diploma exam results of our 2019 graduating class. With an average point score of over 34 and a subject average score of 5.42, our students really stepped up to the challenge and produced exam results to be proud of. For the second year in a row, our highest performing student was a boarding student, which is testament to the support and guidance given by the boarding team. With the help and direction of our university guidance team, 90% of our graduating students went to their first choice of university, which really is an exceptional figure. We started this academic year with a whole school assembly in the sun. The opportunity for students from EC1 to D2 to come together and connect is a real asset of our school. Being an officially recognised Eco-School provided another incentive for us to gather for whole school assemblies. The Eco-Schools driver has helped further embed environmental awareness within our community, monthly ‘travel to school in a green way’ days connected with an environmentally friendly lunch, have provided a platform for conversation and for our students to reflect. This year in the M5 Personal Project and M3 Community Project, we have seen students share the benefits and variety of vegan and vegetarian cooking. In February, an M5 student designed the menu for the whole school using her vegan recipes. It was delicious! Sports has continued to be a focus for us, and under the leadership of Miss Steph and Mr Alvaro, we took part in our first ISAA tournament in London and totally smashed it! The U18 boys team came home champions. This has been further reinforced by outstanding performances in local football tournaments, cross country events, and with individual performances in golf, tennis, horse riding, fencing, dance and beyond. With more students than ever before came the promise of new buildings, something that has been talked about for years and finally, in November, this dream became a reality. In December, the building team moved in and it has been fascinating watching the project come to fruition as the year has progressed. In February, SotoRox and SotoSmash, our first ever 2-day music festival, were terrific events that provided another opportunity for our talented musicians to perform on a big stage. Behind the scenes, D1 students, as part of their CAS projects, formed the event planning team. Leading everything from rehearsals, to catering and safety, this’ real-life’ learning experience provided invaluable knowledge and experience to our students. Our drive to use education as a force for good is central to our hearts and our values. Our monthly send a child to school days, fundraising events like SotoRox and our year group level focus on giving back, means there are plenty of opportunities for students to reflect on their place within society and how they can enhance social connection. Taking action is critical, and in the last 12 months, we ran trips to Uganda, Ecuador and the Himalayas. These trips provide opportunities for our students not only to take action but to create lifelong habits and memories. Then came March! The forced closure of all schools and, almost overnight, virtual school started! Staff, students and parents embraced this change and whilst we all longed for the reopening of school, there have been many amazing achievements and connections over this time of isolation. D2 students have started university-level courses (MOOCs), with a number of them earning credits for their completed work. M5 Personal Project students held the first ‘Virtual Personal Project Fair’. M3 students collaborated remotely to create video presentations of their projects and the P6 students worked virtually to create their P6 Exhibition, themed on COVID-19. We saw science experiments, maths puzzle days, virtual trips around the world and a virtual sports day! As a community, we really gelled through this tough time and I feel so happy to be on the other side of this, with fingers crossed that we will be allowed to open normally in September. Once again, through adversity, we saw pockets of our community using education as a force for good, with 3D visor printing, mask sewing, creating time to chat with people in old people’s homes and recording stories for our friends in Nabugabo. At the heart of Sotogrande International School is the desire to create opportunities for students. Reflecting on the above events, trips and the unexpected challenge of creating a virtual school makes me proud of our teaching and learning team and of our students, who embrace everything we give them. I genuinely believe in the benefits of ‘experiential learning’, our students can explore new and exciting experiences, with the support of passionate people - what an amazing way to be educated, and it even managed to continue through virtual school!

SIS Yearbook • 2019/20

Head of Prim Having been at SIS for 22 years, this is one year that will stand out from others. The challenges that have come with Covid 19 have once again highlighted how we are not just a school, but a dedicated and passionate learning community, that no matter what, does its best to support all. During the first two terms we had the pleasure of enjoying and experiencing normality that we have become accustomed to. At the end of the first term our EC1, EC2, P1 and P2 students worked their magic and collectively performed three different Winter performances. In the second term, many of our Primary students had the amazing opportunity to perform or attend at Sotorox. Throughout both these terms, students had the chance to participate in inter school competitions, public speaking and visual arts events.

This year, however, I would like to recognise, celebrate and make particular reference to our P6 students. The end of P6 is always a milestone which marks the culminating experiences of the students passing through Primary School. This year has definitely been a different way for P6 to finish Primary. Due to having to close school before the end of the second term, P6 have not been able to participate in their final expressive arts performance, could not go on their three day end of year trip, had to complete the PYP Exhibition online and celebrate their P6 Graduation virtually. P6, you should feel extremely proud of yourselves! Your continued commitment, enthusiasm and resilience has been noted by all your teachers. Well done, thank you and good luck in MYP and any future adventures.

My final thank you this year has to go to all our Primary Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Support Staff. Since the middle of March and the move to virtual school, our Primary Team has really gone above and beyond. Through the many different challenges that virtual school brought, our team redesigned curriculum activities, continued to strive for excellence, and adapted the programme in order to respond to the many different social, pastoral and academic needs of our students and families. I know this has been an emotional and professional rollercoaster for all. Thank you! So as we move into the summer and the chance to move across provinces to see family and friends, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful and relaxing summer, and I look forward to seeing you all in September!

The Kindred Project, a unique student driven non-profit organisation set up in 2010 by SIS with the firm goal of enabling and empowering students to use education as a force for good in the world. We strongly believe that proactive, responsible young people are key for overcoming the problems in the world, and thus must be encouraged and supported as drivers of positive change within their local communities and beyond. This has been a year which has invited us to reflect deeply about our role and responsibility towards our world. With the impact that our students have had during this year, we are hopeful for a better and brighter future! “The past two years working with KP has opened my eyes to the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to run some of our school's favorite events such as the Primary Sleepover, Rice Day, Dreaming Dragon’s pop-up shop, and all the other numerous events. I have greatly enjoyed working with KP and am glad to have been able to take on responsibilities such as planning and leading our monthly Send a Child to School Day with my friend Sophie. Doing KP teaches us students important collaborative and responsibility skills that are extremely useful for the future. See you in September! Cordelia T, M5 student

Leading small business concepts and ventures enables students to learn invaluable skills and gain life experience to solve social and environmental problems through sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives, rather than only through fundraising activities. Through Dreaming Dragons (DD), this year our students have been involved in (1) bringing events with a purpose to our SIS community, such as the Primary Sleepovers and the Halloween Party, (2) running the monthly DD pop-up shop offering second-hand uniform, reading books and products from our global partners, like organic honey and saffron, (3) development of the GCP and Sweety Sugar monthly bakes sales, (4) organising the Dreaming Dragons Gift List which provides gifts for your loved ones, (5) design of merchandise and new business opportunities for our global partners, as well as (5) awareness raising through Primary and Secondary Units of Inquiry

“Working collaboratively was essential in this activity as it was a quite complex operation and by working together we could break down the roles into more manageable sections that also worked towards all of our specialities. Cheryl and I helped in planning the event, from designing the gifts tags, drafting the emails that would be sent out, as well as discussing how to make the most efficient system possible. We also had to consider the ethics of our actions and choices as the system has to be anonymous. Tess M, D1 student

Primary KP Club

KP Primary encourages some of our younger students to explore ways in which they can have a positive impact on the world around them. Projects this year have included (1) fundraising through cake and sweetie sales to raise money for various KP projects, including sending Musitafa to school in Nabugabo, (2) Ensuring that all sweets sold and the packaging used is from sustainable sources and promoting the importance of this in three different languages. (3) developing the KP herb garden, (4) promoting UN Day with face painting around the school, (5) raising money for the Movember campaign by selling fake moustaches (6) monthly Dog Food Drop for SOS Perrera in Los Barrios, (7) organised activities for the Hogar Betania Christmas Party, and many more.

“This year a group of us in KP Primary who enjoy baking started setting up the monthly bake sales. We had different themes, and it turned out to be a good way to raise money and people liked our biscuits and cakes.” Elsie C. P6 student

Secondary KP Club

“Personally for me having the chance to be part of KP has been a transformational experience, not only because I was able to be part of a real team, but because it has also been a massive eye-opener towards what a big difference our commitment has made towards the many projects and people we support. If there is something that I am sure everyone that has been involved with the The Kindred Project will take with them forever, is the realisation that a little means a lot even something as simple as sending email reminders for Rice Day. KP allows us to learn more about the world and about ourselves, and that we as students, Primary and Secondary, are already contributing towards a big and positive change in our society.” Lucía G, D2 student

Eco School

Throughout 2019-2020 we’ve continued to promote and increase the number of educational and hands-on eco activities. Although we know we still have a lot to do on the eco front, the activities carried out provide an excellent example to the school community of how we can all be empowered as changemakers capable of overcoming the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss. Notable successes this year included (1) the wonderful transformation and growth of the permaculture garden, (2) provision of home-grown vegetables for the school’s cantina, (3) development of several eco-related Personal Projects, Community Projects and GCP projects, (4) design of SIS’ Eco Code of Conduct, (5) curricular and extra curricular connections through Primary and Secondary Units of Enquiry and clubs, (6) permaculture expert visit from Danyadara team, (7) continuation of Travel to School in a Green Way days and introduction of Sustainable lunch day in the cantina, (8) evaluation process for Eco School Flag Certification, (9) reduction of the number of printed documents at school, (11) significant reduction of single use plastic and packaging… and so much more!

42

SIS Yearbook • 2019/20

“I am currently in GCP doing a project that works with California worms that convert food waste into organic fertilizer. This project is also part of our permaculture garden as the compost will be used in the garden guilds for growing plants that will later be used in the school canteen.” Milo M, M5 student.

Morocco KP & SIS have partnered with the Tiwizi Foundation since 2008, giving way to life-shaping CAS opportunities and our unique Family Trip. During 2019-2020 we have funded and actively participated in the (1) provision of 12 scholarships for Secondary students, (2) employment of an English teacher to give support classes to the local youth, (3) financial support for COVID-19 emergency response, (4) running of SotoRox 5 to raise funds for the construction of 2 new community classrooms, (5) promotion and sales of Tiwizi grown organic saffron and honey through our Dreaming Dragons pop-up shop at SIS, and (5) awareness raising sessions through Units of Inquiry.

“Throughout the Asni trip, I got to participate in activities that I treasure and feel passionate about, such as theatre and music, but I also got to push myself out of my comfort zone. After embarking on this journey, I now know what I love to do. What we as students can do and what The Kindred Project does is beyond unimaginable; as humans we thrive for the better and The Kindred Project is a grand example of this. Zara Bell, D2 student

Nuevo Hogar Betania has been our local partner since 2013! During 2019-2020 we have funded and actively participated in (1) Hogar Betania’s Christmas Party and SIS Choir Tour, (2) employment of a teacher to provide daily school support for Hogar Betania residents and children with learning needs, (3) food drops to support the Soup Kitchen programme, (4) celebration of Rice Days to fund the 3 meals provided at Hogar Betania’s Summer Camp for children in need, (5) financial support towards COVID-19 Emergency Programme, (6) awareness raising sessions through Units of Inquiry.

Spain

“My experience at Hogar Betania was super interesting as I had not been back for 5 years. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to the residents there, listening to their life stories and how Hogar Betania has helped them. I also benefited from speaking in Spanish as it helps me improve and I am able to get more confident with speaking in real-life scenarios. ” - Jim D, M4 student

Ecuador

KP & SIS have partnered with the Yanapuma Foundation since 2008, providing funds and resources for a range of environmental, cultural and entrepreneurial projects. During 2019-2020 we have funded and actively participated in (1) provision of 2 higher education scholarships for Tsachila students, (2) on-line support for acquisition of eco-certification for the cultural group, (3) development of social media presence through Instagram and Facebook accounts, (4) design of a Spanish-English website and, (5) awareness raising sessions through Units of Inquiry.

45

I developed many new skills and I did things that I didn’t know I was capable of. This expedition really helped me to know myself better. I learnt to work alone, to listen and be heard. I learnt to plant and feel love for people I didn’t even know.•I2017 learnt SIS Yearbook to live in a new place, without mobiles, being more aware of others and what really happens around me. I have learnt not to take things for granted and appreciate everything we have. I have learnt to live in the moment and make SIS Yearbook 2017 sure no moment goes to waste. I have also learnt to love. The love that is shared within the community is impossible to put•into words. In some ways, I have learnt to love myself - Mae G, SIS D1 student

On behalf of all of the people that are part of this wonderful worldwide community, we would like to say THANK YOU for making yet another year of inspirational and transformational work possible and for supporting us to create extraordinary opportunities for our students and partners not only to embrace and adapt to change, but also manage and influence it.

Head of Secon As the academic year draws to a close it is always time to reflect on the moments which we feel will help us define yet another year to remember. Of course, 2020 will be difficult to forget, with the cloud of Covid 19 casting a shadow over all we held dear. We were left isolated and worried about loved ones, our friends, colleagues and neighbours. Schools were closed, exams were cancelled, meeting up with our friends, playing our favourite sports and attending musical concerts were all left frozen in time. All of these elements were at the very core of what we know and love about our SIS learning environment. It was during this time of reflection that it dawned on me that we had already attained so much and the year had already been made up of highlights and moments to celebrate. Nations came together as SIS hosted our first Model United Nations, demonstrating our students’ ability to explore and debate topics with insight and intelligence. SIS welcomed students from schools on the coast as well as Fulham School, London and The International School of Monza, Italy. The public speaking skills honed in this event were reinforced by the debating club and Ted Talks which saw our students as outstanding ambassadors for our school. In addition to supporting the linguistic prowess of our students, SIS also opened our doors to become a formal IELTS testing centre. The creative bar was raised exceptionally high once again this year as we welcomed the community to the back to school party with confident and assured performers entertaining us. This evening was a promise of what was to come later in the year; the much anticipated SotoRox V and

54

the inaugural Sotosmash. Coordinated by the D1 CAS team and the Kindred Project, students were provided with the most unique opportunity to perform on a festival sized stage with professional sound and lighting systems to rival the best live events. We were joined by our friends from Fulham House Prep School in the UK who settled in immediately and helped SIS raise the roof as well as raise funds for the Kindred Project initiatives. Through an appreciation of our sensory world, creating authentic learning experiences out of the classroom enabled us to develop multiple perspectives where we can discover our unique interests. Both the M3 Community Project and the M5 Personal Project showcased creative thinking in our students, with the breadth and scope of areas covered being truly inspiring. Students continued to make the most of the opportunities offered to them as they enjoyed experiential learning with numerous field trips and expeditions. Visits to art galleries were enjoyed and helped students make the connections across the arts, including literature. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme enabled exploration of our beautiful local environment as well as forging close bonds through teamwork and collaboration. The annual Ski and SnowBoard Trip to Sierra Nevada saw a number of students experience skiing for the very first time alongside those more experienced in the sport determined to take their skills to the next level. 2019/20 also saw the SIS Varsity Football Squad return as Champions from the ISAA tournament hosted by TASIS in London. The win was a hugely celebrated achievement, having played against other prominent

European schools such as The International School of Geneva, The International School of Basel, Cairo American College and The American School In England. For the graduating class of 2020, this is the perfect year for you to truly understand what it means when we say that it is not only your grades attained in exams that will define you. Denied the opportunity to sit the exams which you had all anticipated for many years, we understand that you felt mixed blessings. However, we know how thoroughly prepared you were. We also know how your future universities and future employers will be looking at all of the other wonderful qualities you will be able to offer. It seems that while we may have left our physical school for the final term of 2019/20 for the safety of staying at home, we have definitely brought our values with us to conclude the year more compassionate, resilient, and grateful for the many opportunities this year has provided. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone in the SIS Community. I wish those of you who are leaving us the very best of luck in your new ventures. Please stay in touch through our Alumni Community. For those who will continue their adventure at SIS, I sincerely look forward to welcoming you all back after the summer.

As the anticipation of summer draws near, I am not yet ready to end our school year together. I feel like we are just beginning to know you as you have ventured boldly ahead into your Middle Years Programme. In between all of the lessons, investigations, assessments and extra-curricular activities, your teachers have also been learning about you - who you are and who you have the potential to become. Even with our physical separation into virtual school, the sudden lockdown has brought us closer together as we have seen the backdrops of our homes, pets and loved ones on our screens. The overwhelming resilience and positivity you have shown in this whirlwind of a year has been nothing short of remarkable, and I am very proud of you. I look forward to spending more time with you all, to watch you grow into the best versions of yourselves. I hope the lessons about life, respect, and, most of all, kindness, stick with you throughout your secondary school journey. One thing we can be sure of, is that no matter the challenges life throws in front of us, we will be united in our support and celebrations of each other. Let us be assured that like a storm, this will pass, and soon again we will stand with each other in the sunlight.

What an unpredictable end! Two years have passed and you are moving onto your next chapter. I am going to miss your energy, enthusiasm and creativity. Nevertheless, I am excited to see how you all, independently, progress over the next few years. Challenges have been met. Starting with our overnight bonding trip, where you raced against the clock to problem solve in escape rooms. Putting up your own tent, which allowed us to sleep under the stars. And of course, devouring those delicious pizzas made from your own hands, cooked on camping stoves in the outdoors.

This year’s Community Project topics wholeheartedly blew me away. It was clear your commitment was driven by genuine passion, and a want to raise awareness of the needs for local and global communities. Our combined responsibility to look after our environment has never been so crucial, and a number of your projects positively addressed these needs. Topics ranged from climate change, microplastics, vegetarianism to permaculture and most importantly disseminating this gained knowledge to our younger students. The current situation has highlighted a definite need to pull together and support each other. Many of you did this through working with the Kindred Project, external charities and animal shelters. Thank you M3, I am proud of you all and what you have achieved this year.

M3 Community project; the experience of learning We would like to congratulate all M3 students for their amazing job and in-depth inquiry leading to service as action in the Community Project. This year they had to prepare the final oral assessment during the first week of lockdown, we could never have imagined this situation before. That was a very high challenge that all students faced with courage and efficiency. We are impressed and proud of both the technical and communication skills they showed during the virtual assessment.

This year has proved to be very challenging for all. We started the year with a highly successful bonding trip with students experiencing a multitude of activities designed to bring them together as a group. There was the trip to Aquamijas Water Park and the trip to Tarifa Beach in which students had the opportunity to get to know each other better. There have been many academic and sporting successes this year and the M4 students are closing in on the final stages of the Middle Years programme having worked hard to improve grades, develop skills and lay the foundations for their move to M5. We have many committed students who contribute greatly to the school community, including sports, theatre, music, MUN, The Kindred Project and many more. We have spent the last few months working through the virtual school and I am very proud, and privileged to have so many dedicated and hard working students. I am very much looking forward to the start of next year and watching the students achievements as they continue their journey through school.

M5, what a year! The last year of MYP is always a busy and slightly stressful time, with so many things to complete (not least the Personal Project). This year we have had our unique challenges and we have spent a whole term communicating with each other through a computer screen! You have risen to the challenge incredibly well and completed your MYP journey beyond expectations. It has not been an easy nor comfortable experience for some of you, but you have learned new skills and developed a strong recognition of the value and importance of our school environment. I know those who are returning to us will be glad to walk through the front gates in September and be part of 'real' school once again. To those leaving us, sincere best wishes on your forward journey, and to all, have a safe, healthy and enjoyable summer break.

The products are only one strand of a very challenging set of assessment criteria, however, they are the physical creation of the M5s’ process. I would like to congratulate all of the M5 students for stepping up to the challenge and thank all of the supervisors for their hard work, time and guidance.'' Bonding Trips Middle Years At the start of each school year, students go on a team-building trip. By holding these trips at the start of the year it helps to build relationships between the students, as well as between the tutors and their students. They help to create a strong sense of group identity and are something we always look back on with fond memories.

languages & literature

Across the different Language and Literature courses in English, Spanish and Russian, we’ve continued to encourage students to find their voice and be comfortable in their expression, be it in reading, writing or verbal communication. Through interactive learning experiences, students are encouraged to be highly literate in their first language as well as understanding the beauty of being bi-lingual and in many cases, literate in 3 or more languages. Through diverse activities and field studies, we continue to encourage students to appreciate the beauty of fiction and non fiction texts. There is no end to the possibilities in this subject due to the wonderful understanding encouraged in our students; that language learning is infinite.

Different and varied activities take place in the Math classroom, no matter if it is at the school campus or in virtual school. Our students are challenged to discover patterns that can be described using Mathematics. Moreover, students apply Mathematics in real-world contexts. We feel proud of our students!

INDIVIDUAL & SOCIETIES D1 geography students attended the “Towards Nature Conference” in Marbella with a focus on the environmental impacts of climate change. The highlight of the evening was a lecture given by Swedish explorer Johan Nilson who presented some stunning and inspiring photography from his expeditions through the Arctic. Shannon Everett won a prize for contributing the best questions to the guest speaker at the end of the session.

DP students participants in Educaixa Challenge BECRITICAL M1’s discussing and preparing their expositions for an “I see, I think, I wonder” activity at the beginning of a new unit.

M2 students investigated different forms of sustainable food production developing their conceptual understanding of systems. They took part in a workshop led by members from the Danyadara permaculture centre that used the school´s own sustainable forest as a learning resource. M4 students in I&S investigated the causes and effects of political empires through a simulation and historical research. From this knowledge foundation students developed their conceptual understanding about the causes, effects and power and then formulated their own generalisations about empires, even applying them to more contemporary business empires. Finally these generalisations were used to design, create and play their own games that evidenced this understanding..

SCIENCE

This year has been full of new and interesting experiences for our students in Science! We have visited local water bodies to test the quality of the water and question human impact. At the ‘Towards Nature’ event in Marbella, our students acted as master of ceremonies, gave their own speeches and interviewed the guest speaker. Our students have continued to develop their scientific knowledge through experimentation, debates and a multitude of other activities. Home experimentation has been a challenge that the science team rose to, I am proud of their creativity in providing engaging activities and practicals which continued to stretch understanding to the highest level.

This academic year: M1 GCP students have studied human rights, apartheid and cultural diffusion. Students explored Martin Luther Kings Junior´s Lettters from Birmingham Jail. We used this reading to teach us how to have conversations across communitites, starting with deep listening, empathy and encouragment to speak truth in service of a more just world. M2 and M3 Students had a sucessful year with their “Pop Shake” fundraising idea, helping to support students in Nabagabu Community Learning Centre in Uganda.

Despite the lockdown, M5 students completed their final submission for the Global Social Leaders Competition 2020. This year the group focussed on educating others about reducing food waste as part of their efforts to address the United Nations Goals for Sustainable Development .

We are so proud of all our ELD students this year! Boris Delev, who graduated from the Diploma Programme with the highest individual IB score of 42 points, was with us in ELD from his arrival in the school in M4 right through to graduation. We will miss him, and wish him every success in his studies at UCL. Primary ELD students have continued to delight us with their energy and enthusiasm and have made excellent progress this year. There have been some exceptional achievements, including Victoria Herrera, Lina Pellinen and Javier Orozco in the P6 Exhibition. Congratulations also to Jiawen, Varvara and Sofia for their achievements in the M3 Community Project, and to Oleg, Maria, Gonzalo, Anastasia and Oceane for their excellent M5 Personal Projects.

We were extremely impressed by the D1 and D2 students who sat the first-ever external IELTS exams hosted at SIS last summer. The final grades are outstanding, and allow students to gain access to the universities and courses of their choice worldwide. We would like to commend the following students in particular for achieving a band 7.5 or above (this is the highest grade demanded by the most prestigious universities): Ricardo Alvarez Osorio Castro, Aniss Halassi, Marta Jimenez Belli, Anastasia Pantina, Sebastien Stirling Valdez, Felipe Escribano Correro and Thomas De Lathauwer

The Duke of Edinburgh award is mainly designed to get students out into the wilderness, out of their comfort zone and to a place where they can test themselves and have a lot of fun doing so. We managed to get out to a few places this year, namely Manilva gorge and La Concha where the students practiced basic mountaineering and navigational skills, with an exciting navigation exercise in the forest near Algeciras where they found themselves scrambling over huge boulders in the base of the river. Unfortunately our main activities were curtailed this year due to the Pandemic but we will make up for that when it is safe to do so.

FILM STUDIES

Students’ studying Film have experienced working through the three production stages (Pre-production, Production and Postproduction). Activities include creating and writing scripts, developing storyboards through their visual representation of the production, filming and using professional industry equipment, editing and adding sound effects. We live in a modern age of mobile phones, laptops and computers, and students’ are at the forefront of filmmaking, creating original and visually stunning films. These fundamental skills are the basis of sound academic work and creative practice. In September 2019, our first ever Diploma Film Cohort went on a trip to London, Uk. Whilst there the students participated in many activities including professional workshops and visits to the IMAX Cinema and the James Bond Exhibition.

Technology

As a community of learners we lead the way in using Apple technology to empower our students. This helps them to be IT literate and thus have more choices about how, when and where they learn, collaborate and communicate best. In short to help them to become more effective learners. Apple ecosystem has allowed us as a community to significantly increase the use of digital solutions for promoting creativity, collaboration, feedback and coconstruction in the learning process. Our students are involved in many collaborative real-world engagement projects where technology plays an important part. In this way, social awareness of helping others is developed throughout the community. We are also developing the ‘language of the future’ Coding, now being articulated and delivered across the entire school enhancing our students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills.

This year has seen many opportunities for students to participate in Public Speaking events, either in Spain, or further afield. Public speaking is an excellent way to raise confidence and develop critical thinking skills, and many of our students have risen to the challenge of taking part in solo and/or team activities. Some highlights of 2019-2020 include: the launch of an ‘Our Future’ speech competition during Virtual School; 3 Diploma students travelling to a sister Inspired school in Waterloo, Belgium to deliver a TedX talk; M5 students debating at schools along the coast; and SIS being declared winners of the Costa Inter Schools Debating Competition. It has been a packed year in U&C guidance, as our older students have had application classes, career profiling preparation and inspiring talks from our ex-students on good preparation techniques for the IB programme and University applications. The first term included a host of different activities; such as the University Convention, individual University visits and a series of pathways meetings for the younger students starting with M3 into D1. In the second term, the older students finalised their applications and as the offers came in reflected and discussed which to select. The younger students participated in further career sessions, using a host of approaches, with support from our alumni and guidance on using digital platforms such as Morrisby, Unifrog and BridgeU. The plan for the start of the summer term was for the Biennial Career Day to be hosted at The Beach, La Reserva, with over 40 companies participating. Unfortunately, this was all put on hold due to the virus, but I hope to run the event in the next academic year! The older students have however been proactive working on either MOOC´s online courses or Pre-University preparation to give them addiitonal leverage on results day. Finally, I would like to wish the graduating cohort the very best of luck in their chosen course, career and country, as it has been a pleasure working with you all, and I look forward to seeing you back at SIS at future Alumni gatherings.

No child left behind Comments from parents and students My daughter has been thriving and enjoying M1. Thank you for supporting her through it. They’re always there and always care without fail The student support service is made up of an absolutely incredible team who really care for their students. I am so grateful they helped me through my IB and boosted my confidence and performance. It’s a place where my son is understood, supported, encouraged Due to lockdown work has been shared by me at home, I have been feeling the safety of being in experts and right-hearted people, which is the most important thing when educating a kid with a ADHD and Asperger I like how I always have a place to come to and be myself. There were various different studying techniques we've explored through in order to see which one suits me better, in terms of its effectiveness... It meant a lot as my child’s confidence has grown a lot and he is working more independently The support I received from the support team during the D2 Mock exams was amazing and helpful Getting into SIS and being welcomed by the Student Support Department was like finally reaching home

What a year, D1! The transition from MYP5 to DP1 was memorable, productive and fun with two days of bonding and experiential learning at the beginning of the year in CaĂąos de Meca. Opportunities were given to gain a deeper understanding into the CAS programme, establish new friendships and maintain existing relationships, through a myriad of activities including beach trekking, bonding games and culminating in preparing and cooking paella. I have been impressed with your commitment and responsibility to mentor younger students and become involved with The Kindred Project and Student Council, discovering and following your passions. Organising a spectacular evening of musical entertainment and culinary delights for SotoRox and SotoSmash showcased confident, professional and truly inspirational students. And then came lockdown! And with lockdown came virtual school and with this new and unfamiliar learning environment came a multitude of opportunities and challenges for both students and teachers. Well done D1, for adapting so well to this new method of teaching and learning! It has been a pleasure to work with you all this year, and we look forward to seeing you ensconced in the new building in September, doing your best to achieve your goals in the coming year, with the support of the D2 team. The Class of 2020 began nearly two years ago for you, by getting to know the whole year group at the start of D1, on the beaches and campsite of Caños de Meca. You then plunged headlong into your version of the IB programme, be this IB Diploma, IB Courses, or American High School Diploma, all of them more rigorous than what you, as students, experienced before. By Christmas, most of you had adjusted well to your new courses, while still making time for lots of activities, CAS or not! After mid-year examinations, a substantial group made the trek to Asni, Morocco, to learn more about life there, and help out in various ways, while others in the group did their part elsewhere, be that in Spain or in home countries. After this, IAs, EEs, and D1 exams came up fast on the horizon. The move into D2, and the culmination of various types of coursework with heavier workloads and more stress, led to some cracks in armour showing. With peer and staff support you carried on, rapidly closing in on those final examinations. And then, things all changed, seemingly from one day to another, and we adapted to a new reality, with terms like “lockdown” and “social distancing” becoming the norm. Now, with all the serious work done, and final grades being awarded in a completely new way, a true summer break is ahead, and (virtual) graduation is happening, followed by a new chapter in your journey! Congratulations, a big hug from a distance, and the best of luck!

Wow what a strange and uncertain time the end of this year has been. I have to say, I am in deep respect of the way you have handled the uncertainty, embraced the changes and got stuck in! You have demonstrated flexibility, open mindedness and resilience. You have not been stressed by the root cause of stress: stressing over the unknown and uncontrollable. In this, I am so proud of you, you have lived the life skills that we have aimed to teach you whilst being at SIS. As a whole group I haven really appreciated you, your contributions, connections and ability to embrace all opportunities with open arms. Thank you to the 7's club. You have demonstrated great trust in me as a teacher as we started our journey almost 1 year ago. I have truly loved teaching you through this time, have really enjoyed seeing your confidence and in cases joy of maths increase. It is likely that you will be my last diploma class, so thank you for the memories and the journey. To the basketballers, thank you for allowing me to join you on court, albeit that my time this year was cut short due to too much basketball. I have really enjoyed our time together, it will be a time I will cherish. I wish you all the very best as you start your journey to the next chapter. Remember that we are a community, so please do come back to say hello, keep connected on the Alumni facebook page and attend our alumni events. Warm wishes Mr Kearney

D2 What a year group this is. Intelligent, sociable, musical, techie, sporty, dramatic, arty, multi-lingual, vocal, independent, hip, cultured, worldly and now with Covid-19, unique and historic! You will always be known as the year group who excelled and succeeded in following your passions. People may say that you ‘escaped’ having to sit through the dreaded DP examinations. But we know that it was far from an escape. We know how well prepared you were. You spent 15 years of your lives preparing to graduate from school to beyond. Mark my words, those 15 years have not been wasted because you were not able to prove your ‘knowledge and understanding’ in a few formal examinations. I am confident that you are now extremely well equipped and more prepared for the next stage of your journey than many 18 year olds on this planet. The pathways in terms of subjects, activities, experiences and passions you have accomplished up to now have been varied. Some of you

Kevin Stone Head of Secondary School

have made mistakes, learnt by them and recovered extremely quickly. All of you have had exhilarating successes and moments to be most proud of. Each of you leave behind fond memories and legacies. Some of you started SIS last year and made a rapid positive impact and others joined at the tender age of 3 years old in 2005. Those of you who have been here for many years have witnessed 5 different head teachers and an incredible evolution of the school, not only physically with new facilities and resources, but also the way lessons are now taught. When you arrived, the broadband ultra fast fibre internet, iPads and Macbooks were only a distant dream! You have enjoyed the fruits of a visionary, Paul Templeton, who founded the school and created something very special, all based around you and created for you. The years of joy and stress that you have given me may have taken their toll; my hair is going grey and I have deeper lines on my face. But those physical changes tell a story and it has been an epic adventure observing, listening, advising, teaching, supporting, crying and laughing with you, through the roller coaster of infancy, tweens, teens and young adults. To look at each of your exciting individual plans for the future fills me with pleasure, pride and admiration. It’s been a fantastic team effort. One of my favourite tunes is entitled; ‘You Should Always Keep In Touch With Your Friends’; not only is it a ‘banging tune’, the sentiments of the words are essential in our lives. Please stay in touch with your Sotogrande friends. You will always receive a warm welcome back at Soto!

This has been a great year group whose legacy will resonate long after all the students leave. They have been one of those years groups where many have been mature beyond their years and it has been a pleasure spending time at SIS learning with and from them. As young as M2, some students took on significant roles in the tear jerking and highly impactful performance of Red Red Shoes. They then made us cry tears of laughter in M5 in their hilarious graduation skit and their rendition of 30 Reasons Not to be in a Play. Lucia pretty much stole the show in her cute red checked dress and hair in a red bow as she rejected her “peas” fed to her by Mummy Jordan in a dress. This year group has shared an Arts strength to the joy of our community. Aniss has been inspirational in his commitment to playing trombone at every fundraising school event. A real role model for the rest of the music students in the school. Ebba has inspired us in a different way by sharing her love of dance to get the school up and dancing to help raise awareness of dyslexia. Then there is Brad. Even though his true passion and talent lies in football he Felipe is another accomplished sportsman and I can only imagine the faces of the UK teams when our SIS dream team, spearheaded by both Brad and Felipe, swept up the championship as an underrated ´outsider´ entry. We will look forward to seeing both of these guys make headway on the professional field. We have missed having Max on site for much of D2 but there we are in no doubt that his guitar and music skill will open many doors to him in the future beyond SIS. In every Theatre lesson Grigory has made us roll around in laughter, but as every person in DP knows how he is absolutely hilarious both on and off stage and should walk the boards as a stand up comedian. Saying that, there is also our uniform-guerilla guru Hugo, whose spanking session on stage with Enola and Jordan (don´t ask) was laugh-out-loud...hmm.. memorable...to say the least. Amongst this group are some strong visual artists and it was lovely to look at the exhibition work of Anastasia and Solana. Whenever I was able to pass by Mrs O´Farrell´s Art room I would find them both engaged in some lovely creative explorations, for example Solana tracing a hypnotic wave of patterns against the art room window. Solana´s creative vision has also been much valued in the work she has done in promoting school events through her films. Anastasia´s creative, warm and thoughtful personality came into its own when working with Primary students at the school. When I noted how this group is mature beyond their years, this is both literally and metaphorically true for Vicente. We have been truly lucky to hang onto him for an extra year and the contributions to KP that he has made throughout his DP commitment have been authentic and highly valued. During his time in Ecuador he forged a family that will sustain its friendship beyond the years defined by formal education. Vicente has approached his final year at Sotogrande with a focussed and good natured determination that makes him a pleasure to know. Alex is another member of our SIS community whose contributions to KP initiatives have been significant and truly impactful. Whilst in Uganda his energetic, proactive and cheerful nature made him a ´win´ with the children in the school whilst also making him an asset to the jobs that the SIS team had gone out to complete. I would also like to commend his commitment to actually working during his summer breaks, building up a strong skill set and sense of the world around him that will ensure that he succeeds in the next steps ahead. Last but not least there is our dark horse Arto (aka Smithy). Bringing breakfast to advisory every morning, Smithy has a kind soul whose self deprecating nature never truly recognises how truly liked he is by the people around him. I would like to wish them ALL well in the choices they make and continuing to strive to be the very best possible versions of themselves.

It has been a pleasure and a real honour to have had such an amazing Advisory group this year. I have seen you work very hard, and although some of you will probably remember my words for a while when you take your phones - “Please use your time” - your continued effort, resilience and commitment during this course have shown me that you are capable of changing the world. I am very proud of you. Now that you have your IB Diploma, you can be sure that you have achieved the so many times heard IB attributes: Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Reflective, Open minded, Balanced, Risk-takers, Inquirers, Caring, and Knowledgeable. Be proud of yourself. Your future is full of opportunities and new adventures, and I sincerely wish you all the best in life. Thank you for being such a fantastic team of students. Thank you Patrick for taking care of all of us every single morning by adjusting the heating of the oven to 30 degrees, high flow. Thank you Ana, Pablo, Sebastian and Jaime for sharing your weekend adventures and future plans for Interrail. I hope you can make that trip soon. Thank you Noah, Jasper, Mengen and Nathan for the extra work on Maths every morning, asking me challenging questions and solving them on the board. Thank you David for teaching me programming and hacking. Remember to use your fantastic knowledge intelligently and for good. Thank you Natacha and Dmitry for being so nice and quiet at 08:50am. Thank you Taha and Denis for reminding me every morning while drinking your coffees that you were improving your IAs. Good work finally. Well done everyone!! Congratulations!!

D2 You have all learned so much on your journey at SIS, and just when you thought you were finished with IB reflections, cycle tests, the syllabus and IA´s you were thrown into the unknown yet again with the cancellation of the IB exams and a whole new set of personal and global challenges. I am so proud to see that so many of you have the strength and resilience to rise to adversity and new challenges, rather than look for the negatives, you search out the positives, the opportunities for new experiences and learning. You have demonstrated adaptive resilience and this will be key to future growth and happiness, perhaps this is one of the most important lessons you have learned throughout your time at SIS. Many of you have used your time to take online courses and better prepare yourself for future education and you have realised that although you are graduating from SIS you will never finish your education - this will be a lifelong journey. There will be future shocks, challenges and obstacles in your pathway but you have learned the importance of perseverance, commitment and being resilient, not just from your academic subjects but also from your experiences through CAS and the many other opportunities you have seized throughout your time at SIS. It is not just about what this community has given you; consider all the things you have given back throughout your time at the school through the performances, mentoring sessions, exhibitions, sports events, etc.. There are many forms of wealth and you have helped this community become a culturally vibrant, social, caring and stimulating environment. Looking through your CAS journals I can see so many examples of risk taking and being courageous, you have put yourself into unknown and new experiences, going to Asni, Uganda, Ecuador, learning in a different language and culture, standing in front of a live audience to give a TEDX talk and so many more examples. You have not been afraid to try these experiences and to be courageous when necessary. The current pandemic is also the unknown but you have learned to adapt to these situations and many of you have shown that you can lead others through these times. I hope you receive the IB grade that you worked for but as a reflective learner I am sure you can see that you have received so much more than a certificate and a grade from your experiences at SIS. Keep learning, take risks, persevere and keep gathering wealth in all its different forms, including time, happiness, friendship, experience and the environment. Here's to your future and may there be many more challenges, obstacles, problem solving, reflecting, action and adventures!

The only thing that you can be sure about in life is that one day you will die and so it is vital that you pack your life with as many wonderful experiences that you can. It has been a joy working with you and as far as I am concerned this rated as one of life's wonderful experiences! Seriously, it’s been a real pleasure and I will miss you now that you are gone. Not only have you given me lots of laughs in the morning but you have also given me the privilege of watching you grow into responsible, sensitive, caring and intelligent young adults. But I will not wish you luck for the future, because if you are not prepared to work for it, luck will be no good. And if you do work, then luck will be of no use anyway. Instead I wish you Success. Here’s to a successful life! Thanks for all those smiles in the morning, all those great vibes, all that energy, those philosophical conversations and for sharing your dreams with me. Thanks for being part of my life as I can safely say you have been worth it. Take care!

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: After 5 years, I have some great memories that have come along in my journey at SIS. From making friendships which will go on for years to come, to all the different school trips, such as going to Italy and Portugal and winning international football tournaments. Attending the cross-country four of the five years, and winning individually and as a school in 2018. All the athletic competitions representing the school, bonding trips, ski trips... They have all been amazing and will always remain as part of my memory at this wonderful school.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I'm not quite sure about my future yet. What I do know is that I will study international business. I have applied to a bunch of universities in the USA, which is my first option, where I want to continue playing football while studying for a career. As a second option, I have applied to three universities in the Netherlands, and finally to the University of Navarra in Spain. Anything could happen in the next few months, but I'm sure that wherever I go, it will be a memorable experience that I will surely enjoy and learn from.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: My best memory was the D1 bonding trip, before which I was very shy and did not speak to anyone. It helped me get friends for the entirety of my IB and I was now finally happy. This school event is amazing and thanks to it, it made my school experience a hundred times better. Besides making friends, I got a good tan, had lots of laughs and overall spent my time with lots of enjoyment. I think this was the push to developing my own personality and since then I became less shy and more engaging with people.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I would like to get into my first choice university in Amsterdam and live there. Besides, I would also like to continue doing what I really like at the moment which is making music. I would like to turn this hobby into a real job and develop in this field. I really enjoy being in Amsterdam and if I could get into the University that I want, I will be very glad and happy about this. Although, I do not know what will happen to me in two years time, I think it will be the most beneficial time of my life.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: It’s impossible to pick out just one memory from my 13 years at SIS. From participating in outstanding school productions like Moulin Rouge and Back to the 80s, and going to Uganda, there have been so many crazy and amazing times. Handing out solar lamps to the local community on my first trip to Uganda and building benches on the second trip even though I had no idea how to use the tools are two of the many stand out memories I have. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunities to experience all that I have throughout my time at SIS, the memories of which will stay with me forever. Finally, some of my favourite times at SIS have been when I was just sitting around and laughing with my friends, having random conversations about air fryers and soup makers. The amazing group of people I surround myself with are one of the main reasons my time at SIS has been so great, and I thank them for that.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

After leaving SIS, I plan to study

Global Sustainable Development at university in the UK, which I hope will nurture my passion for combatting pertinent social and environmental issues. Although I am not sure what career I want after university, as the possibilities are endless, I am extremely excited by the field of sustainable development, where innovative solutions to global issues are constantly being discovered and created. I am curious as to where I will be and what I will be doing in the next few years, but I am certain that SIS has prepared me for whatever career I choose, and for that I am eternally grateful.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Some of the highlights of the past 15 years at SIS include embarrassing myself every chance I had singing in shows such as ‘Maria Poppins’, ‘Back to the 80’s’ and the performance of ‘Ferdinando el Toro’ in P4 which marked the beginning and end of my musical theatre career but were still very fun to do. Skydiving in D1 was an experience I will always take with me, I think there is no better way to face a fear of heights than to jump off an airplane next to your physics class. Translating the lyrics to any song we could think off to a mixture of French, English and Spanish with Mencia as well as rapping about Baroque art in Miss Kini's class. Participating in the Med Cup in Verona stands out as one of my best memories in my time here, 4th place never felt so good. In general, football tournaments were always my favourite days. Likewise, the morning bus rides in the Estepona bus and the M3 French lessons will always have a special place in my heart. And of course, how to forget hiking and having my food stolen by foxes during the DoE Expeditions. All in all, SIS has shaped the person that I am today and I'm extremely grateful for the opportunities it has provided me alongside some incredible people. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: As of right now, I plan on going to university to study Mathematics, whether this is at Warwick, Edinburgh or Madrid, I don't know yet but like any of my school assignments, I'm procrastinating on the decision. I plan on having the best time this summer and making the most out of my time left with the people in Soto. Also, I hope to travel as much as I can in the years to come and hopefully get more than 5 hours of sleep every night. But mainly, I'm looking forward to thinking about other things rather than when my next IA deadline is that I'm not going to meet.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: When I finally got my book published which is called 'Judged', it would follow through a students perspective about mental health issues. This was my personal project in M5 and it started with me writing a poem called, 'WHY'. The poem was inspired by a video talking about society issues, I created a poem from a student perspective asking what you do in different situations such as if you are bullied, if you feel insecure or if someone has suicidal thoughts. My poem got a lot of attention in school, it was posted on the notice board in the entrance hall and students got to post their comments which helped me in my research for my book.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I am taking a gap year after I graduate but during the summer I will be able to help my parents run the bed and breakfast we have now in Sweden. During my gap year, I want to develop my skills and figure out what I want to do next. I will continue to promote awareness of mental health such as anxiety, depression but spread awareness of other things as well. I don't really know what the future holds for me but I do love to sing, dance and act so maybe I will do something within the performing art area where I show and improve on my creative side.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: "London Trip - I just had a tough year, and the London trip with all the theatre students made me so grateful that the right, lovely people turn up at the right time. Asni - Well, there were a bunch of laughing stories. Let's start with a market - me and Mrs Miriam were hiding our faces from the meat that hang everywhere with chicken heads and rabbit heads laying EVERYWHERE! The next day Nidia got kicked by the donkey saying ""I was about to become vegetarian but then the donkey kicked me"". Lili sprained her ankle and got to ride on the donkey (let me tell you she looked like a queen when all the kids went to greet her). When hiking I realised that I want to travel the world and see the beauty in every place and do that for as long as possible. The campfire with all of us singing and dancing, playing games at the girls' boarding house, playing football and sadly losing, taking a swim in the lake, partying like a true Moroccan, being involved in a play and let's not forget how Mr Wix sang sweat good morning songs to the girls and rock 'n' roll songs to the guys. The funny stories come at the end of the trip. In the morning before our departure, Mr Wix was about to enter the girls room and sing a song when Jordon walked out and said ""I can explain! A cat gave birth in my bed"". True story. The trip to a market was interesting as my Maths studies skills were at their worst and I calculated the price wrong for a scarf ending up paying over priced. What can I say, I helped the local community out. When going back to Spain there was a large storm so all we did was play cards games. FAME - so many talented people, so much sing and so much dancing! Loved playing the overdramatic dance teacher! Comedy about a Bank Robbery - The funny show I have ever done with a lot of embarrassing moments especially singing Hugo in the smoke of Taco powder. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: "How am I supposed to sum up my best memories from what has been my second home for the past 13 years in one statement? From the minute I walked into Miss Nina’s classroom in P1, I fell in love with SIS, and even though Diploma has been academically challenging I can say that I have truly enjoyed growing up in the most friendly learning environment since day 1. I am so grateful for the many incredible experiences which the school has enabled me to embark on. From the drama trips to Berlin and London, the Paris trip and the expeditions to Uganda and Asni which lay especially close to my heart, I have developed appreciation of cultural diversity and made fond memories. I remember dancing ‘Macavity The Mystery Cat’ in P5, where Mrs Reynolds instilled my passion for performing and how this grew into the outstanding memories I have made, acting in the maaany theatre productions I have been a part of. From ‘Back to the 80’s’ in M1 to ‘Comedy about a Bank Robbery’ in D1 drama with Mrs Barling has been the highlight of my school life. All the memories with my friends from playing during break, and singing on stage to studying together in the Library have made this journey really special. Friendships which will last a lifetime. I am so thankful for the amazing teachers who have encouraged me to be an enthusiastic learner and supported me all the way. SIS I will miss you. " PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: "Firstly, I cannot wait to have the most amazing summer starting the 20th of May. The future is never set in stone, however, I do have goals which I wish to accomplish. Going on the Uganda expedition was the best decision of my life, as it made me realise that what truly fulfils me is helping others. I am confident that my plan for the next few years is to study Politics and International Relations at University in the United Kingdom with the intention of making a positive difference in the lives of others. I would love to work in the United Nations one day. Of course, I cannot leave my passion for theatre aside, so this will definitely be my main hobby. "

BEST MEMORY OF SIS:

The best trip I ever had with the SIS community has been the Ecuador Trip. I have built a strong relationship with the people that came along and I have enjoyed many new experiences with them. This was an enriching opportunity that has shaped my identity in many ways. The Asni trip, playing with the kids, teaching them and doing workshops where they can develop their creativity. Helping the community by building roads and learning about the culture. Duke of Edinburgh, hiking up mountains and swimming in lakes. The spirit of teamwork and survival. I loved camping with my friends as if we were explorers. Fresh air, pleasant views and terrible foot blisters. Sports day, there hasn't been 1 day where I felt more competitive. Since the beginning, I remember the Romans always having to cheat and I barely got the taste of victory, now I miss those days. I especially enjoyed having to dress up as the colour of your house and participating in the multiple activities our teachers organised. How could I forget all the other fun special days in primary like crazy hair day and pyjama day.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Go to university and follow my passion, hopefully, I made the right career choice and manage to finish my studies. I am most likely going to keep procrastinating, but I will try to change. In the meantime, I would like to travel around the world, visit new places with different people and cultures, that is my main objective. Over time I will expand my experience and try to work on a diversity of sectors. I like change so I might also try different professions. I don't want to plan my future so it seems it is going to be perfect because it never will be, but I will try my best at everything. Step by step, no rush.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Asni was one of the trips that I liked to know another country and learn to value the things that I have and the luck that I have had to have the privilege of going to school, having a house, with water, electricity etc... Cross-country has been a real challenge for me, since M4 I have tried to be first, and in these previous years, I have been fourth, third and second. Kindred Project has been a pleasure to be part of and to be able to help in everything possible also, how well you feel about yourself in helping people who need money. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: I have a lot of warm memories from SIS. I met a lot of friends and interesting people over these 4 years. Various school trips stay forever in my hearts. However, the most important and the most interesting event is Asni trip. During our CAS programme we went to a small Moroccan village called Asni. Students helped local children with learning subjects, playing games and instruments. This trip gives you an unbelievable experience of how different people live outside of civilisation. Such trips remind you that happiness is not money and expensive cloths, but it's the time that you spend with your family and friends while you are alive and healthy.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: My time at SIS was the most sensational journey I have had the pleasure of experiencing. It has allowed me to express myself within a unique learning environment. I am proud to have spent my remaining academic years as part of this school. Furthermore, I am equally honored to have been a student under the guidance of the remarkable teachers who had the misfortune of having me in their class. I cannot thank any of my teachers and peers enough for the kindness they have shared with me throughout my years in this school. Their kindness will forever stay in my heart as I progress throughout my life, and for that, I am eternally grateful. Thank you, SIS, you truly have been amazing. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Without sounding too cheesy, I genuinely have met some of my closest friends and most amazing people who although bully me every day and are constantly injuring me, will always be there for me and never fail to make me laugh. As much as I complain (which is a lot), SIS has made me into the person I am and given me experiences and memories that I'll never forget. Asni and Uganda were probably some of my best memories from a cat giving birth on Jordan's bed to having literal trees dropped on my head (you know who you are) and just making memories I will forever cherish with friends I will never forget.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS:

I am so grateful for the way I was

accepted into the SIS community in M5, and having the chance to meet people from all over the world has been a truly unique experience. I feel extremely fortunate to have had inspiring and motivating teachers that have challenged me to improve both as a person and student. One of my favorite memories is from Asni, where I had the chance to interact with some of the most joyful people that I have ever met. Traveling to London to play and win an international football tournament with great friends and teammates was another experience I will always remember. Additionally, I have always been amazed by the effort that the teachers have put into making each lesson enjoyable. Mr. Barling’s “Ask Jackson” Game Show and Ms. Maes’ daily teasing of me have been especially memorable. There have been so many fun times and good laughs in class.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I am unsure of what the future holds for me. However, I think that a lack of clarity regarding what lies ahead is in some ways a very exciting opportunity, as I feel I have the ability to write my own future. I have become inspired to study Geography, and feel that through Geography I will be able to gain a more complete understanding of the different facets of the globe, which will aid in my ambition to contribute to improving the world we live in. Football has also been a major part of my life, and I aspire to keep pursuing my goals in football alongside my education. I hope to keep in contact with all of the people that have supported me and made my life at SIS so exciting, and I look forward to returning to visit and seeing everyone that made my time at SIS unforgettable.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Having spent the past 12 years of my life at SIS, there are hundreds of great memories I could include, although there are many from primary that I can't really remember, and many others I simply can’t include. Nonetheless, some of the most amazing memories made were on trips such as El Cañuelo, the ski trips and all the bonding trips. I cannot exclude the most educational and eye opening trip of my life, to Uganda last year and I am forever grateful that I was given that opportunity. That being said, the trip had its less pleasant moments like building benches in the rain and mud everywhere, thinking Mia was dead one morning and getting woken up at 6:45am by Mr Wix to go swimming in the lake. The sunrise was worth it though. Overall, my time at SIS had led me to become a singer who peaked 5 years ago in that one version of “If I ain't got you” as well as a student you can rely on to start laughing and crying before an exam. I must also thank all the amazing teachers for all the work they put into getting us through these two hellish years of our lives.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

Being as indecisive as I am, I haven't quite made up my mind yet. Much to my excitement, I'll be getting a job in the summer (you're welcome mum and dad) but I'll also be spending as much time on the beach as I can. In September, I'll either be heading off to do a degree in Geography, or in Musical Theatre. Two very different options I know. Whatever I end up doing, I'll be travelling as much as I can and ending up in the smallest and most amazing corners of the world. I'll probably spend a few years working with organisations like MSF or the UN so that I can travel to less fortunate countries and do whatever I can to help. Either way, I'll be making so much money that I’ll have enough to send to my less successful brothers, and my parents who've spent all their money on our education.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: After hiking to the peak of Sierra Nevada,

we set our tents and prepared to go to sleep at 3º. Before dusk, I saw a foxlike silhouette a few hundred meters from camp. Borja didn't believe me, so we decided to throw sausages outside the tent to see if the fox would come. It didn't turn out too well, as two foxes raided our campsite, made holes in the tents to steal our food supplies and mistook some students as snacks (no serious injuries). Our family at Asni and staying at a hotel in Tangier because the ferry wasn't allowed to leave due to strong winds in the Mediterranean. The football tournament in Verona, Italy. Returning as winners thinking that we were the best team in Europe solely for coming first out of 40 schools. The two MUN conferences in The Netherlands and Denmark. Getting lost with our bicycles in outskirts of Amsterdam with no internet and only one hour left until the departure of our flight Spain. Going clubbing in the centre of Copenhagen when Ms Anne went to sleep. The eventful visits to Christiania. Going surfing with the teachers to Tarifa and the morning session at Torre beach. The drama productions in San Roque. The multiple athletics competitions along the coast. Finally, football at lunch with the boys, the simplest and best memory of all. SIS has significantly shaped who I am. I will always be grateful for the support of every member of the school, helping me improve as a person.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I will attempt to spend some time at

university studying something like maths and economics to become an entrepreneur. I'm impatient to find out which will be the highest position I will reach in the Forbes billionaire ranking. BEST MEMORY OF SIS:

After 10 years in SIS there are endless memories I will take with me for the rest of my life. All the trips; The Himalaya, MUNs, History... Anyone who came will be able to corroborate how crazy they were! I've also taken part in many basketball tournaments all around the coast. I have spent some amazing years here. Legendary moments: First lesson ever in D1 Physics -Dr Woolley: “Incidentally people, Gravity is the only force that cannot interact with other ones” -Nobody: ... -Not even one person: ... -Literally not a single soul in the universe: ... -Javi: “Well, according to string theory, gravity can obey quantum laws and hence interact with the other fundamental forces of the universe in a spacetime model with 9 dimensions. -Woolley: ... BEST MEMORY OF SIS: I have been at Soto for a very long time, I have many great memories from this amazing school but there is this one aspect of this school that stands out: our talent in the arts. I have performed in many school productions at this school, ranging from background character to lead roles. This has taught me in maintaining focus and confidence in front of a large crowd. Our plays have been more professional than your typical school performances. But one part I love most about theatre are the bonds you create backstage with your ensemble. These bonds that we make form some of my best memories from Sotogrande International School. And they will carry on when I pursue a career as an engineer. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I want to become an engineer and work in the space industry. I am planing to study some kind of engineering in the UK but I'm not sure. I plan to take a foundation year at the University of Bath for me to then know what kind of engineering I want to do. I plan to get working as soon as possible and once I have enough experience I would go into the space industry, specifically SpaceX. This change was not easy for me, but fortunately, I've met the best of friends, who stuck by me and made me feel at home since the first day of school. Out of all the best memories, the one that stood out was last year when my friends and I went to Bucintoro the week before my 17th birthday as a surprise. That day we all couldn't stop laughing. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: My plans for the future are to study Global Law in the Netherlands and become a successful corporate lawyer. I want to become a lawyer because I believe that it is a good way of rendering service to society and that this will fully develop my skills, abilities, and attitudes which, I can apply in a lot of aspects of my life. I believe that the law profession plays an integral role in any community as it is generally working on analyzing and solving legal theories and ensuring that justice is enforced. In this regard, I want to be involved in that kind of profession while at the same time providing my professional growth.

At the end of D1, my dream came true, as my school went skydiving. Skydiving is one of the most intriguing sports. To jump with a parachute, you need to be brave enough since not everyone is going to do that. The main adrenaline part comes when the instructor opens the door of the plane and the person is preparing to jump. At an altitude of 4600 meters, you feel completely different. For me, the best part is the seconds before the jump and the jump itself. You do not think about anything, you just enjoy the free fall and the feeling of freedom. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: After graduation, I'm planning to go to university, preferably in Toronto. Before starting to study again, I'm planning to travel to different countries in which I have never been. Since I really like travelling, I believe that this will be a useful experience before university. After graduation, I want to create my own business, surrounded by trusted people. Thanks to Ms. Barling, the stress of IB was reduced and I got to make close friends through creating performances and trying not to kill each other through all of the rehearsals and after school sessions. I also thought that performing was my thing and tried out several roles at Back to the ’80s, Sotorox dancing and playing electric guitar, of course, this was all before I realized that maybe acting wasn't my thing and decided to move backstage. Since then I've helped organise practically all the events that have taken place at SIS being backstage for Fame, organizing Kiss the Kasbah and a whole TEDx event, attempting Formula 1, and until today where I am (to no one’s surprise) part of the grad committee. Finally the trips, such as Asni, Paris (side note, I broke my ankle), and most recently Uganda, simply amazing. 15 years at SIS give me a lot to talk about however I don't have more space, so I'll stop here by saying that the staff, students and the Sotogrande Community are the best things that could've happened to me.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I think one of the best parts of the future is not knowing what will happen. So, for now, I'll say travel Europe with my best friends (Las más chulas del SIS, if you know, you know), and making the most of the time I have left in Soto. Then hopefully going on to study business and maybe even opening my own company some time who knows. But something I'm sure about is that the future involves my best friends, my family, lots of travelling, good food, new people and coming back to Soto very often.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS:

During the four years I've been in this school, also including the boarding house. Spending time with my best friends was the best moment in SIS. There are too many memories I have enjoyed such as the bonding trip cooking our own food and well the long walks were peaceful. As for trips in the boarding house kitesurfing was the most amusing i really enjoyed it a lot, while personally spending time in the tv room we always had the best conversations. But to whoever might be reading this now, prank day has gone successfully and it will be remembered by the school supervisors for how terrible of people we have been that day. Soto Rox was very fun, because my friends and I had performed Lose Yourself. It was one of the best experiences of my life were I had rapped, crowd surfed and danced. Most importantly spend time with your closest friends which are your true friends the one's which will always be there for you whenever you feel sick or if you're feeling down.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

In the future, I'd like to study International Business with Mandarin. I'll be doing this by performing the first four years in the university of my choice and right before the last I will do a transfer and complete a business master degree for a year. During those years 'i'll be studying abroad learning mandarin among the people in China and it's beautiful culture. Additionally, while I'm studying I'd like to see some companies to get more experience and knowledge about my course so I can have a better understanding. But exclusively be with my family as much as possible because those are the ones which will stay with you until you're gone and take care of you sicken you arrived in this planet.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: SIS. First came Primary, our first trip staying the night in Huelva to singing at Mrs Bosson’s wedding with Choir and practising all of our cheerleading choreography during break on the grass. Then came secondary that big step into reality. Writing the best song ever and creating a music video with Mr Wix, Back to the 80’s and classes with Mrs Kini and Mrs Lourdes, Paris trip in M5, and last Ecuador one of the most fulfilling experiences saying goodbye to the kids knowing someday I will be back. Lastly came diploma that time in our lives when things got serious and we “had to study hard” from study periods, to those emails from Dr K waiting for some surprising news in an advisory to Mr Wix always reminding us about the importance of CAS and Mr Mungles´ thousands of emails. Mr Barling’s lessons playing catch the last 15 minutes of class. Nights out with my friends having to think of studying the following day no motivation. SIS has been home for the last 15 years and although I will always remember my time here it is now time to say goodbye and embark on a whole new adventure.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

Having in mind my three week trip around Europe with my friends I am motivated to ace my exams have the best summer ever with all of my friends get to meet new people travel relax and forget about school for a few months before returning back to reality. I would like to attend university in the UK to study sustainable development and do a year abroad in France to finally learn the language I have been taking for 7 years (only to make Mrs Bosson proud). After that, I will see what the future has planned for me. But I will never forget Sotogrande and the friendships that have come along the way.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: I am immensely grateful for all of the extraordinary memories that I made at SIS: writing music for several days in the mountains of Malaga, hosting gigs, playing in an orchestra pit for a theatrical production, jumping from a plane, among so many more. The best memory has to be the expedition to the Indian Himalayas. This experience entirely shifted my perception on the world we live in. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I aspire to study Theatre, Philosophy and English in university and attempt to synthesise the three subjects to create art that will inspire and transform in a similar way that art has enhanced my own life.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS:

After 15 years at SIS I've lived many great moments and it's impossible to gather all of them in one paragraph. From learning all the dances for the school events and plays I've been part of, like "Back to the 80s", "SotoRox" or"Bugsy Malone". As well as the many trips I have enjoyed, especially Poland and the one to Sierra Nevada when we got attacked by a fox. Just the most simple things like spending lunch at the bleachers or study periods in the library with my friends are what have made my journey through SIS an incredible experience. I cannot express enough how much I've enjoyed growing here and how thankful I am for all the teachers, members of staff and friends that I've met along the way, as they have all influenced the person I am today. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

Study Medicine in Navarra or in Madrid and hopefully become a surgeon.

The best memory has been the opportunity to meet and make friends with so many different people, including teachers, while growing up at SIS. Not one memory stands out to me; the lines blur between all the treasured times I've shared with so many different people. I'll always be thankful for the people I got close to here at SIS. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I love storytelling and adventures. Whatever I do in the future I hope I'm expressive, pursue a passion and I have fun. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: I remember fondly the first day I became an SIS student. This institution guided me through the journey of self-discovery. But my best memory at SIS was the music class of M3 got to go a trip to El Cañuelo and had a wonderful time together playing music and enjoying the jaw-dropping view from the hillside in Velez-Malaga. I will also miss the lunch breaks where a bunch of us will hang out on the football pitch kicking a soccer ball and mocking each other. For these wonderful memories, I will like to show my appreciation once again to the teachers and staff on this year's senior prank day. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I'm going to be honest here, unlike most Asians, I'm not really sure what my plans for the future are. Sometimes in life, some of us gotta take a leap of faith and hope for the best. I'm so uncertain about my future that I could be living an adventure of a lifetime somewhere in the Bahamas or working at a McDonald's nearby. Only time will tell. Currently, I'm only thinking about getting the best score possible on my finals. I look forward to studying in Canada either in Toronto or Vancouver and make some new friends there. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: My time here at SIS has been a truly wild journey. That being said, some of my best memories definitely have to be going on the D1 Asni trip and meeting the most amazing people and learning with the children, going to Uganda twice and truly discovering the meaning of happiness and how easily I get sick lmao (thanks to Miss Elisa for being my savior) while having the honor of meeting Mansweat, all the other school trips such as the London History trip where I learned I need to stop overpacking :)) and skiing mishaps with Leonie taking out 6 snowboarders on the way down the mountain, giving a TEDx talk on something so close to my heart while overcoming my fear of public speaking ( kinda, sorta) and making some genuine friends I know I'll have for life and I can always count on. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Although I'm not completely sure what my future holds, I hope to attend university in London come September to study English Language and Literature. Afterward, I plan to move to New York to do my masters and of course, eventually, be the editor-in-chief of Vogue whilst living in the Upper East Side with Terrance (aka Leonie) beside a puppy sanctuary and to be truly living my best life. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Although I've only been in this school for two years, my IB journey has been quite the rollercoaster. I can't say that one particular memory stands out because its a series of moments that have made my time here so incredible. From the countless times we hung out in the Diploma room in D1 at boarding, to singing songs around the bond fire on the Bonding Trip, I was introduced to my new school. Later in the year, we danced the night away with friends at the Back To School Party, Soul Night, and more recently, SotoRox. But most of all, I remember our trip to Asni, Morocco. From the moment we left school, I knew it was going to be incredible. Besides being able to help the local community, ride camels with the children and, of course, experience the booming chants of a traditional party, I was able to make new friends and truly get to know the people in our year. We may have been stranded in ports, train stations and hotels for hours, but as we sat on the floor playing card games, we all came together. On another note, I'd like to thank the teachers, parents and students who helped make our time here truly special. We are all off on new adventures next year, but will always recall the endless hours we spent procrastinating in our frees or as Dr. K has us call them "study periods." Hope to see you all again soon! PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I hope to study medicine and someday join an organization to help less fortunate people around the world. Where will I be next year? In all honesty, I have no idea. As of right now, I am completely undecided. I applied to schools in England, Scotland, Ireland, the U.S. and France. All of which are very different. But although I have no clue as to where I will be starting University in the fall, I hope to spend the summer enjoying life: horse riding, going to the beach, traveling and meeting up with my friends. For now though, I want to live in the present and enjoy the last few days we have left here at SIS.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Shout-out to my mates who went to Ecuador, you guys were great. IB Physics was always a laugh, and Javi you may want to keep your acronym for Fleming’s left-hand rule to yourself. If India taught me anything, it’s that the ceilings are too low (*coughs* New Delhi airport), peanut butter and chapatis soon become tedious and that altitude makes you delusional. India your TV is oddly hilarious, cue the dramatic mobile phone scene. Shout-out to La Ultra marathon, a true inspiration watching and supporting such a race. Asni, Morocco was fun… even though we nearly missed the train (It literally left as we got on). The village had amazing scenery, and it was a surreal experience riding the camel and going on the walk. Most of us can agree that we withstood a bombardment of “Monsieur! Monsieur!” from the kids as we played football, did skipping and arts/crafts. I won’t forget Grigory’s collection of remarks including “Could… I uh… have some of that magic water please?” when referring to hand sanitizer and when Nadia could not keep it together after Grigory said “Hmm… what do you call those things… African dogs?” corrected with “You mean Hyenas Grigory… ”

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: During my time at SIS I have gathered

a lot of memories that I will remember in the future. From the amazing trips such as the bonding trip and especially the trip to Asni where we all lived some amazing experiences that we probably will be unable to live again as well as all the times in which we laughed, walked, played and wanted to fall asleep after lunch. Apart from this, I will take with me those day to day moments that made IB life somewhat more bearable. From advisories with Mr Castro where we all wanted to sleep while he tried to convince us to use that time to study, Ms Pinnock's business classes where we ended up talking about how she didn't have soap in her kitchen sink or that she had a terrible looking green juice for lunch, Mr Berry's physics classes where we tried to teach him some Spanish and by the next day he had forgotten, and last but not least, those incredible economics classes with Ms Lesová where we ended up talking about random things such as illegal ways to make money or arguing which country was better, Czech Republic or Spain (Undoubtedly we concluded it was Spain). Overall I would like to thank all the people who have been a part of my life during this two-year journey and which have made it a part of my life which I will never forget..

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: First of all, I'm expecting this

summer to be the best of my life as it's probably the last summer in which I have nothing to do for the end of the summer. My friends and I are doing the interrail around Europe, we are going to visit many countries such as Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece... Apart from this, I want to enjoy home, family and friends for the rest of the summer as I'm going to miss it when I go to Madrid. years. It’s more like memories: Going back in time to PYP; I would say Golden time & sweets with Mrs Heartland. Storytime with Mrs Claire. Trying to take sex ed seriously! Juliana's lit birthday parties. SPORTS DAY. Dressing up as a reindeer or elf (because why the heck not). Then in MYP (Where you apparently needed to work...); Mr Allen giving Javi a hard time (like any other teacher does honestly). Deciphering Ms Lourdes hieroglyphic-like handwriting. Fixing the hotel door that Javi "accidentally" broke. Feeding fox's fuet at the Sierra Nevada. Diploma (Where you should work) Dr Woolley casually roasting the whole class. Asking Dr Kievit if I could leave school to chase my dogs in the streets (permission was granted). Laughing at how Maria, Riki and I apparently finessed the TOK presentation. Working (not) in free periods. Choosing maths and physics HL, and then complain about how hard IB is; because that is what IB students do! Apart from that: - Ecuador, Asni & Himalayas, "Best trips eeeeeeveeeer!!!" Yeah, “very geekish”, I know, but it is what enjoy! I also hope to travel the world as much as I can because there is so much to see and so little time. And most importantly, I want to keep in contact with the friends I have made here at SIS, as these people are truly special to me (whatever special means…) I will also be coming back home to Sotogrande regularly, coming to SIS to say hello to all the amazing students and staff that are here, because they truly are amazing. BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Although I have only spent 2 years in this school, they have been amazing. I have been in many schools throughout my life and SIS has definitely been one of the best. Not only because of the most motivated teachers that I have ever met, but because of the great students in it. Asni: One of the most memorable trips has to be the trip to Asni. I will never forget those 5 days (well 6) in Marrocco and having to stay one extra day because of the bad weather. Mr Wicks Waking us up. Football in Lunch: Another unforgettable activity is playing football during lunch break. I'll always remember asking Jaime, Ramon or Vicente “Pitch?” everyday after finishing lunch. Then we would go to the pitch and just forget all stresses from the classes while laughing at everything and just having fun. Surfing: Although I haven't been surfing much, I have definitely done it more often than ever during these two years. I will specially remember getting up at 6:30 to go surfing on a Wednesday together with Jaime, Patrick and Dr Woolley just before going to school. Kebabs for Life: Finally, there is a special place in my memory for kebabs every Friday with Vicente. We know that kebabs are bad for our health, but who cares? PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: I am not quite sure what I'm going to do in the future but I am sure that whatever I choose it will be challenging and rewarding. I loved the whole time spent in Sotogrande International School and will definitely miss it. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

My plans for the future is to go to university to study film editing and to work in the field of film editing.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS:

It is virtually impossible to decide which memory from SIS was the best. But if I were to choose one, in particular, my experience during the M5 Bonding Trip remains as one of my best memories from SIS. M5 was my first year in this school; I made new friends and experienced a unique style of living. Moving from Morocco to a boarding school in Spain allowed me to experience a new way of life, learning to be more independent. The Bonding Trip, as the name suggests, allowed me to better bond with my friends and discover who they are outside a school environment. There are many more memories that I have experienced with my friends; however, sometimes it is better to keep it for one-self to avoid the embarrassments of my friends . The truth is, my best memory from SIS is yet to come, and that is the D2 Graduation Ceremony & Party for the Class of 2020! I will forever remember these two events, remembering all the fun times I had during the past three years.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: In the future, I wish to take part in the continuous evolution of technology. Likewise, I developed a website that would allow young individuals to pursue their passion for learning English. While this software is mainly designed to help french-speaking individuals grow their knowledge in English, there are further developments planning to be made. With all being said, I aim to pursue my studies in the United States, applying for a double major: Computer Engineering and Entrepreneurship. It is in my highest hopes that one day, I will leave this Earth knowing that I have contributed as much as I can to help make the world a better place to live in.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: Having been at SIS for 14 years of my life, I

naturally have countless incredible memories. My earliest being the school trip to an orange picking farm in P2 (where I got an award for picking the most oranges haha), our first overnight trip to Huelva in P5, as well in MYP laughing to the point where we were crying in science, selecting design and PE as electives which involved teaching Izzy and Tala how to dance and playing quick cricket with Mr Smith, not to mention competing at EIC each year for swimming (with Izzy swimming into the wall during the medley) and always beating them and Mr Gibson (which he hated). One of my favourite memories was going to Uganda in July 2019. This was an indescribable once in a lifetime opportunity that I learnt countless life lessons from and will forever remember. Alongside the left handed hammers, the upside-down rolling pins, almost dying on our first grade 5 white water rapid on the River Nile and Mr Wix pushing us out of the raft into the Nile numerous times... To now ending my time here with IB... which included entertaining and memorable Business classes with Miss Pinnock and choosing HL English Literature even though I hate reading just so Mrs McCann would be my teacher. To say the least, being at this school with the most amazing people and supportive teachers is something I wouldn't have traded for the world. I'm leaving here with the most incredible memories that I will forever cherish. Thank You SIS, it's been an amazing journey.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

My ideal plan (banking on the fact I get my IB points) is hopefully to go and study International Business at either Loughborough or Manchester University... I haven't decided which uni yet. I also hope to study abroad in America for a year during my time at university! Although, if I don't end up at uni, I'll accept my place at Laine Theatre Arts and pursue a career in dance/musical theatre. However, what I do know is that in the future I will definitely end up with a house of dogs (preferably yorkshire terriers, golden retrievers, cavapoo’s, and labradors, but I'll be happy with whatever).

BEST MEMORY OF SIS:

Himalayas - The trip to the Himalayas in the summer of 2019 was one of the most memorable moments at SIS. Spending almost a month in the rural Himalayan mountains completing a variety of activities and undergoing challenges with a close-knit friends group made it all that more enjoyable. I will always remember the times at Goba Guesthouse, Bon appetite, Bonfire and the coffee store around the corner, the only place with decent wifi in Leh. The La Ultra was definitely one of the adventures that made the expedition as a whole so much more fun, exciting and intense. From -10ºC at 5400m to 25ºC at 3200 m it truly was a one of a kind experience. Getting to spend 6 days with the medical team and getting very little to no sleep it gave me a good insight into the upcoming year, D2! We all bonded over many common areas and occurrences during the trip, many of which happened during the acclimatisation trek. The acclimatisation treck took us from 3200-5900m in a couple of days and would bring with it gasps of relief when the bag could come off the back after hours of carrying it and at the magnificent views and surrounding.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

I plan on completing an Arts and Sciences bachelor and then my current aim is to join a medical masters programme. I want to be a doctor with an organisation that allows me to see the world and travel adventurously, maybe joining the Navy. Supporting and helping everyone, local and afar whilst learning the culture and moving. If I don't get into medicine I hope to join one of the global caring industries and organisations where I can support medical development, understanding and support. Where I will be in 10 years time no-one knows, not even I, life is an adventure and I'm just about to embark on the acclimatisation period.

The satisfaction of being able to help a small community, teach math and English to local children, what I felt those three weeks is indescribable. The MUN conference in Copenhagen, go clubbing to the center and the cultural visits to Christiania, the Asni Trip, and football at lunch with the boys.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS: My best memory of Sotogrande International School was making lifelong friends over the course of two and a half years. SIS has a very inclusive and diverse community allowing individuals to connect with one another and share various cultures. I have personally been able to connect with people through extra curricular activities and living in the SIS boarding house. The first extra curricular that comes to mind would be the ISAA London Football Tournament. I was able to travel with members of the football team and bring home the first place title as well as the pride that comes with it. Moreover, living in boarding was a unique opportunity to fulfil a child's dream of living with your closest friends. In the SIS boarding house, I was able to create unforgettable memories with people from different year groups and nationalities.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: In the future I plan to focus on Liberal Arts and Sciences majoring in Business and Economics. I selected this course hoping to receive a broad-based education, thus not focusing my efforts on one particular subject matter. The following will aid me in achieving a future career in Business and Management. Furthermore, I will be able to minor in multiple courses allowing me to integrate into several types of businesses and get a feel for the professional business environment. Finally, I plan to attend university in the Netherlands or Brussels and potentially travel to another international location and undergo an internship through my university course.

BEST MEMORY OF SIS:

SIS Is a place I have always considered home, somewhere which has enabled me to thrive and discover who I am through rewarding experiences and complex challenges. I am very grateful to have been surrounded by such a diverse range of personalities over the years, allowing me to grow into the person I am today. I can not thank my teachers and fellow peers enough for their constant motivation and inspirational attitudes towards life. My best experiences here, range from theatrical and musical opportunities to spending time with my friends and of course, the Asni trip. The myriad of artistic opportunities I have been presented with over the years have been phenomenal and have helped me grow in confidence. My friends are the best bunch of people you could ever meet :) and of course, the Asni trip allowed me to understand how education can be used as a force for good. Soul Night and many other events in which I have rocked out on stage, with my guitar some of the best memories. School productions such as FAME have enabled me to be as bossy as possible, "You can butter me up like a stack of flapjacks but you still have to be in time for class," thanks Mrs Sherman :). I have also embarked in many school trips over the years, how could I forget about jumping out of a plane?! Overall SIS has been a driving force for my positive outlook on life and a place enriched with creativity, imagination and innovation.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: With thanks to Mrs Barling and Mr Wix, I have been able to embrace my creativity over the course of my secondary years. I plan to study Drama, Theatre and Performance at university in the UK. Hopefully, in the years to come, I'll either be pursuing a career on stage or teaching about the power of theatre, Mrs Barling & Miss Maes, you've taught me well :). SIS has prepared me for the future, with my guitar in hand and countless memories as I part, I can only hope that the people I meet along the way are as open-minded and crazy as the students I have had the pleasure of meeting here. As for now, I'm just going to continue being myself and try and find out what could be lurking around the corner. Party hard! Peace, hugs and hippie love :)

Whilst we were unable to host our traditional Alumni Meal or the Doug Stewart football tournament this year, SIS Alumni have continued to play an integral support role for our current students with advice and guidance. The closeknit family that is the SIS Alumni continues to expand with over 612 members since 2009 connected on FB, Instagram and Linkedin. There are many examples of our alumni guiding current students, but here are a few of my highlights from this year. Leah who is currently studying criminology and psychology at Leeds Beckett popped in to visit and offered meaningful words of advice in one of the U&C classes on the benefit of CVs. Also, Loreto from DP2018 currently studying aerospace engineering in the Netherlands at TU Delft has motivated further students in this direction. Or Charlie who graduated in 2012 with 40 points in his IB Diploma and went on to study his undergraduate degree in International Relations at Exeter University. Following that he secured an Internship working in Washington DC before starting work for the B-B Corporation as a Project Manager. He has been a regular Alumni representative giving valuable advice to our students over the years. It was great to have Patrick from DP2018 drop in to tell the students about the Technical University of Munich. Patrick graduated with 45/45 IB Points in 2018. Patrick spoke of his time at SIS in glowing terms, as “The support I received from my teachers was incredible and it allowed me to reach my academic goals. I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering.”

It was great to hear from Poppy as she graduated from SIS in 2009, and is now a Risk and Internal Audit Manager at Cambridge Assessment International Education. “My time at Sotogrande inspired me to work in the international education sector myself and means that I can really relate to our learners and our schools. It motivates me every day to be contributing to their experiences and their futures." Lily studied at SIS and graduated in 2006 with 41 IB Points, and went on to study literature in the UK. She is now a Production Manager at RSA Films in London. They make TV commercials and it is her job to organise the shoots (crew, equipment, locations, cast, run the budget). Lizzie who graduated in 2008 is a Creative at Lucky Generals - an advertising agency in London. She writes the scripts for TV commercials. Last year she wrote the Amazon Super Bowl TVC, with Antony Hopkins and other celebs. These are just a few of the inspirational Alumni who continue to motivate our students. It is always great to hear from SIS Alumni, and once again I look forward to welcoming them back at SIS on June 23rd 2021, when I hope to make it an extra special reunion for the graduating class of 2020.
