Summertime Fun In The Windy City
Nyoki Lewis-Hunt
Iremember when my kids were smaller and I was always looking for free ways to make sure that they had a good time because I was a young single mom struggling to make ends meet. And the fact that I struggled to make the ends meet I felt like it was my job to make sure that my kids did not feel the weight of that! Having that responsibility as a young mother has always kept me informed on How to not only entertain them but I also entertain myself on a budget.

Despite how the media depicts Chicago we live in an amazing city! Wow, some neighborhoods may deal with violence, it is not the overall depiction of the city I was born and raised in. So how do you have fun on a budget in Chicago!?
There are a ton of beautiful parks in downtown Chicago where are you can go and have a picnic you can watch the kids run around and play and you can just sit back and enjoy the scenery of it all.
You can hang out and have a good time at the beach on Michigan Avenue, or you can walk around by the Buckingham fountain and take beautiful pictures from memories that will last a lifetime. Chicago lakefront stretch for miles from the north side to the south side where are you can also get amazing views if you love being by the water.
Are used to love taking them over to Navy pier because there was so much to see and do even if you were working with a tight budget. And then we all know there’s always so much to do when money is not an option! On the 94th floor of the John Hancock building, there is the observation deck, which I honestly have not taken advantage of yet but I plan to do it very soon!
There is plenty of sightseeing that you can do if you enjoy boat rides because there are a ton of them to enjoy. If you enjoy museums there is the Adler Planetarium, The Art of Museum and Science, or The Field Museum of Art and History just to name a few.
And who doesn’t love to shop?! I love the shops along Michigan Avenue because you can tickle your fancy no matter your budget rather it is for you, your kids, your spouse, or someone else you love! The point is the world is opening back up and yes we want to take precautions and make sure that we are continuing to social distance and wear our masks, but there is PLENTY to do in my city and I’m sure there’s plenty to do in your too; but whatever you do make sure you make time to live your life and not just exist in it.
