The Essence of Sisterhood By, Nona C. Jones, Founder

Sisterhood: the solidarity of women based on shared conditions, experiences, or concerns

Thank you for taking a moment to learn about SistersSpace.com and our 2010 Sisterhood Conference. In reading When and Where I Enter by SisterAuthor Paula Giddings, I realized more than ever why sisterhood among Black women is so important. When notable Women’s Suffrage leaders like Susan B. Anthony were denying Black Women a voice during conventions and meetings, it was the collective actions of women like Ida B. Wells and Mary Church Terrell that forced white women to stand up and take notice of the unique needs of Black Women. Today, Black women continue to shape the direction of our nation, most clearly demonstrated through the work of our First Lady Michelle Obama. Despite these contributions, Sisters continue to be type cast in demeaning and demoralizing ways in the mass media. I created SistersSpace.com to be the place where Black women would find themselves depicted as they truly are; graceful, beautiful, professional, accomplished, and caring. On July 9-11, 2010, we will host our 2010 Sisterhood Conference themed, “\Blak Wu-mənhud\: reDefined.” Over the course of two and a half days, Black women from all over the country will meet in Atlanta, Georgia for a time of celebration, reflection, and education. As you will learn from our itinerary, we are looking forward to a wonderful time. This is where we ask for your partnership. As a company with a strong reputation for valuing diversity, I ask that you consider supporting our 2010 Sisterhood Conference. Sponsor benefits are detailed in the following pages. Due to the unique, web-based nature of our organization, we are able and ready to promote your support on five continents. Our almost 3,000 members strongly believe in supporting those individuals and businesses that support our efforts. We ask that you let us know your decision by August 1, 2009 as we will begin promoting the conference nationwide and will want to acknowledge your investment. We hope you will join us!

Nona

Yours in Sisterhood,

Who We Are

SistersSpace is an international organization of Black women who recognize the power and strength found in our historic Sisterhood. We are a spectrum of women that includes doctors, lawyers, educators, politicians, stay at home moms, entrepreneurs, college students, and clergy. We represent a diverse array of socio-economic statuses and geographic locations. As vast as our differences may be, we are drawn together with the collective purpose of showing the world who the Black woman really is. SistersSpace.com was born on September 15, 2008. “I was doing a Google search for images of Black Women, and what came up was appalling,” says 26 year-old SistersSpace.com Founder, Nona C. Jones. “The women were wearing g-strings or standing in provocative poses. I said to myself, ‘There is so much more to the Black Woman than these images suggest.’ SistersSpace was born after that moment.” SistersSpace is more than just a social network. As a matter of fact, our online network is just the means we use to accomplish our ultimate mission. SistersSpace.com hosts more than 50 SisterGroups for likeminded Sisters with similar interests and life statuses, including SisterWives, SingleSisters, Sisters in Healthcare, SisterAttorneys, and many more. We also host several programs, including SistersRead! Book Club©, FitSisters, and SisterJobs Support Group. The SistersKeeper Foundation will be launched in 2009 to provide college scholarships for economically disadvantaged young ladies who are college bound. The Foundation will also work to build schools in underserved areas of Africa. Mission:

SistersSpace exists to foster a spirit of Sisterhood among Black Women from around the world while celebrating and nourishing every aspect of our lives.

Vision:

SistersSpace will be the online community of choice for Black Women, with a global membership of more than 1,000,000 ladies by the Summer of 2010 . We will offer the latest news and information available to enhance the quality of life for Black Women. We will have a thriving portfolio of services, products, and programs to meet the needs of members and visitors. We will help every Black woman achieve her dreams by being the hub for tools and re sources that support homeownership, entrepreneurship, higher education, employment, and other forms of financial and personal investment. We will be the leading online resource for Black women on Breast Cancer and HIV; two diseases that are disproportionately claiming the lives of Sisters.

Values:

Faith, Family, Sisterhood, Confidence, Achievement, Health & Wellness, Community Service

Nona, I thank you for the vision and insight to share such powerful information with us. I think one of the most pertinent pieces of data shared in this episode was the use of self-discipline and restraint. -SisterMember Anntwanique I truly enjoyed this interview. Mrs. Nona, job well done!!! I found myself taking down so many notes on my notepad while Lynnette passed on her valuable information. Nona, you asked specific, detailed, and precise questions that I could benefit from. -SisterMember Lynn
