Paying for College The Office of Student Financial Aid will work with you to put together a combination of scholarships, grants, student loans, parent loans and student employment to help you fund your education. Newly enrolled freshman or transfer undergraduate students pay a guaranteed tuition rate for four continuous academic years. The textbook rental program results in a significant cost savings.

*Undergraduate, two semesters, 15 semester hours each. Prices reflect academic year 2020-2021 base tuition rate. Undergraduate majors in the School of Engineering and the School of Business will be assessed a 15% differential tuition surcharge based upon the in-state rate. Studio and lab fees are charged in addition to tuition and fees. Undergraduate fees include the cost of renting basic textbooks. This program allows you to rent books instead of buying them. **Based on a shared room in a freshman residence hall, meal plan A, and includes campus housing activity fee. Paying for College checklist for entering students n
As soon as possible beginning October 1, complete the FAFSA online at studentaid.gov and have your processed financial aid information sent to SIUE (FAFSA code: 001759). The FAFSA can be filed using tax information from the “prior-prior” year, which means you will use 2019 income information when applying for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Students must obtain an FSA ID for identification purposes. Visit studentaid.gov and click on “Log In” or “Create Account” then “I am the student.” Parents may be directed to do the same later in the application process. The FSA ID (a user-created username and password) allows students to electronically access personal information on Federal Student Aid websites and electronically sign not only the FAFSA but all electronic financial aid documents.

Scholarships are awarded at the beginning of each fall semester only. To be considered for most SIUE scholarships, submit your completed admission application and all supporting documents postmarked by December 1 (freshmen) and March 1 (transfers).

Entering freshmen only: To be considered for a Meridian Scholarship, submit the Meridian Supplemental Profile postmarked by December 1. The profile can be found at siue.edu/meridian.

Financial Aid We know that paying for college can be stressful. Our financial aid office is ready to help you find options to finance your education and realize your dreams. We will work with you to manage college costs, regardless of your financial circumstances. SIUE offers state and federal grants, a variety of federal loan options, and student employment to assist in providing you a competitive financial aid package. It may not be easy, but consider it an investment in your future. The first step is to complete the FAFSA. You can link from the SIUE financial aid website at siue.edu/financial-aid or directly at studentaid.gov. Complete the FAFSA as soon as possible beginning October 1. To qualify for financial aid at SIUE, you must: l
Be admitted as a degree-seeking student
Enroll at least half-time each term (six hours for undergraduate students, five hours for most graduate students) l Maintain satisfactory academic progress l Not be in default on other student loans or owe a grant refund l
How to apply for financial aid Getting started is easier than you might think.
1. Go to the FAFSA website, studentaid.gov; click on “Log in” or “Create Account.”
2. Create an FSA ID. This will be used as your identifier and
electronic signature. A parent may also need to apply for an FSA ID. 3. Complete your FAFSA online. You will use the taxes you submitted two years ago. For example, to complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA, you will use your 2019 federal tax information. You may also use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to enter your income information directly on the FAFSA.
