Paying for College

What SIUE costs might look like for you

The Office of Student Financial Aid will work with you to put together a combination of scholarships, grants, student loans, parent loans and student employment to help you fund your education. Newly enrolled first-year or transfer undergraduate students pay a guaranteed tuition rate for four continuous academic years. The textbook rental program results in a significant cost savings.

*Undergraduate, two semesters, 15 semester hours each. Prices reflect academic year 2021-2022 base tuition rate. Undergraduate majors in the School of Engineering and the School of Business will be assessed a 15% differential tuition surcharge based upon the in-state rate. Studio and lab fees are charged in addition to tuition and fees. Undergraduate fees include the cost of renting basic textbooks. This program allows you to rent books instead of buying them. **Based on a shared room in a first-year residence hall, meal plan A, and includes campus housing activity fee. Visit siue.edu/housing for information regarding upperclass student housing.

There are many factors that will impact your financial aid package, such as savings, number of family members, number of students in college, and student earnings. Here are some examples of what financial aid might look like for you. SIUE offers state and federal grants, a variety of federal loan options, and student employment to assist in providing you a competitive financial aid package. It may not be easy, but consider it an investment in your future. The first step is to complete the FAFSA. n Scholarships are awarded at the beginning of each fall semester only. To be considered for most SIUE scholarships,

Getting started is easier than you might think.

“Log in” or “Create Account.” 2. Create an FSA ID. This will be used as your identifier and electronic signature. A parent may also need to apply for an FSA ID. 3. Complete your FAFSA online. You will use the taxes you submitted two years ago. For example, to complete the 2022-2023 FAFSA, you will use your 2020 federal tax information. You may also use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to enter your income information directly on the FAFSA.

S tudents must obtain an FSA ID for identification purposes. Visit studentaid.gov and click on “Log In” or “Create Account” then “I am the student.” Parents may be directed to do the same later in the application process. The FSA ID (a user-created username and password) allows students to electronically access personal information on Federal Student Aid websites and electronically sign not only the FAFSA but all electronic financial aid documents.
