Beautiful CAMPUS We’re known for our beautiful campus. Our scenic and modern campus sits on 2,660 acres of forested woodland atop the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River bottom land. We take our reputation seriously and are committed to continually enhancing the learning environment for students. Since 2006, the University has completed more than $300 million in construction and infrastructure improvements, adding new state-of-the-art buildings, and enhancing existing structures. Sustainability and living green are important at SIUE. All new campus construction is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifiable. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has certified four structures on the SIUE campus. SIUE is second in the region only to Washington University in St. Louis among university campuses in the number of LEED certified buildings. Once all eligible SIUE buildings attain LEED certification, the University will tie with the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana for first in the state, each with seven LEED certified buildings. 6
The new addition to the Art and Design Building features a spacious art gallery that is visible from the walkway outside, painting and drawing studios oriented to bring in northern light, and expanded studios and critique spaces.
Our brand-new, nearly $80 million state-of-the-art Science Building Complex is equipped with high-tech equipment that is typically found in the research labs of future employers.
The new addition to and renovation of the Engineering Building offers students additional laboratory and work space that replicates industry standards and provide opportunities to collaborate and assist on innovative research projects.
