2020-2021
ANNUAL REPORT ON GIVING
Dear Alumni and Friends, Thanks to you, our donors, we exceeded our annual goal for fundraising and even surpassed our pre-COVID-19 fundraising goal! This was especially heartening to the University Advancement team as we sought new ways to connect with you via phone, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and sometimes, (luckily) in person! It means more now than ever to have generous donors, individuals, foundations and corporations who believe SIUE has a positive impact on students, alumni and the Metro East community. Our advancement team did a remarkable job this year raising $5.6 million, which is robust considering the challenges we continue to face with COVID-19. I would also like to thank the Foundation Board of Directors and the Alumni Association for their support and creativity during this past year. And, to all of the volunteers who help us create engaging events, thank you! Fundraising Results • Our fiscal year 2021 total net contributions were $5.6 million, exceeding the fiscal year budgeted goal of $3.54 million by 58.5%. • Fiscal year 2021 net contributions of $5.6 million surpassed our fiscal year 2020 net contributions of $4.9 million by $689,000 or 14%. • Donors created 10 new scholarships and 16 new endowment funds. • Our endowment fund as of June 30, 2021, was $35.7 million. The endowment fund returned 28.5% net of fees in fiscal year 2021. Over the last 10 years, the endowment fund has returned 7.2%, annualized. • $1.4 million was distributed from accumulated earnings on donor endowment funds at June 30, 2021, to fund student scholarships and SIUE programs and departments. The spendable distribution exceeded the prior year by approximately $259,000. • Our non-endowment fund as of June 30, 2021, was $18.4 million. The non-endowment fund provided a 17% return for fiscal year 2021. This year, we will be planning a capital campaign. Plans will be released in fiscal year 2023 after we welcome our new chancellor and discover their new vision for SIUE. I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank retiring Chancellor Randy Pembrook for his support and active engagement in advancement. As we look toward the future, we need all of our more than 117,000 alumni and friends to donate. Every gift counts, no matter the size. If you were a student-athlete or supporter, please help SIUE Intercollegiate Athletics as they pursue new and remodeled spaces for our students. We need the entire SIUE community of alumni and friends to be involved. Thanks for your investment in the future of SIUE! Go Cougars! Best,
Rachel C. Stack Vice Chancellor for Advancement CEO of the SIUE Foundation

Alumnus Vandenberg Establishes an SIUE Legacy Chandler Vandenberg, MBA ’17, has spent his career as a fundraiser in higher education, including several fundraising positions at SIUE from 2012-2018. Now the director of development for major gifts at the University of Texas at Austin, Vandenberg fondly remembers his time as a staff member and graduate student at SIUE. He has chosen to leave a portion of his legacy to the SIUE Meridian Society Endowment and also to establish the Chandler Vandenberg Endowed Study Abroad Award. “The SIUE Meridian Society is a wonderful group of philanthropic women who make a significant impact in the area by directly funding community-based projects,” said Vandenberg. “My study abroad trip to Hong Kong was a pinnacle moment of my MBA at the School of Business. My goal is to ensure that others are able to have that same wonderful experience with less of a concern of how to finance it.” To others interested in establishing a planned gift, Vandenberg advises to first consider the impact you want to make. “Once that has been decided, involving an experienced estate attorney is crucial in planning out what legacy you would like to leave behind,” he added. 3

COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES Scholarship Endowment Supports Students in STEM Alumnus Jim McPike has created the Jim and Julie McPike Scholarship Endowment with an initial gift of $432,000 to support students in STEM. McPike, who earned a master’s in economics at SIUE in 1974 and served as the Majority Leader in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1983-95, donated his remaining political account funds to support the endowment. This scholarship will cover one year of tuition and fees for junior or senior students, with preference given to qualifying women majoring in math, science or engineering within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) or School of Engineering. “CAS faculty and staff have been working hard to increase the number of women in STEM majors, and the McPikes’ support will make it easier for individuals with financial need to pursue degrees in these fields,” said CAS Dean Kevin Leonard, PhD.
Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Rachel Stack and Rep. Jim McPike ‘74
After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., with a bachelor’s in naval science in 1965, McPike went on to earn a bachelor’s in business from Jacksonville University in 1970. He served in the U.S. Navy as a jet pilot for five years before being elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1976, serving a total of 18 years. In 1985, SIUE honored McPike with the SIUE Distinguished Alumni Award.

It is always such a blessing to have some pressure taken off. With this scholarship, many doors can be unlocked, and I am honored and filled with gratitude that I was chosen.”
“I recognize this donation is quite a special gift, and I truly value it as it has provided me with a new motivation and has reaffirmed that I am doing something right. I promise I will work hard to continue to fulfill and exemplify the student this award was designated for in my remaining semesters here at SIUE.”

Fundraising Initiative Enduring Value of Scholarships Scholarships can be a life-changing affirmation for students. They not only reward student achievement but also bridge the gap for students with financial need. During its virtual 2021 Honors Day program, CAS was proud to honor 287 deserving students with 358 scholarships and awards. “This award reignited my determination and ambition to succeed at the end of my college career,” said Dalia Hassan, who earned a bachelor’s in chemistry in 2021 and was awarded the Dr. Emil Jason Memorial Award in Chemistry. “It will also help me achieve future success in my career field to serve others.” Over the next five years, CAS seeks to raise $2.1 million dollars to increase scholarship opportunities across all disciplines to meet the changing needs of our students. Named scholarships can be created with a gift of $500 per year with a five-year commitment, and endowed scholarships start at $25,000, which can be paid over five years. “Our students work with marginalized populations, and many of our students have experienced their own financial challenges or other sources of stress,” said Jill Schreiber, PhD, associate professor and chair of the Department of Social Work. “The scholarships they receive help to meet their needs in order to successfully complete their degrees.”

A 2021 recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from SIUE, Heitz’s academic distinctions also include earning the first MBA awarded by SIUE in 1969. His service to the University is extensive and ongoing. For more than 10 years, Heitz has served as an executive in residence for the School of Business, guest lecturing and mentoring faculty and students. Alumni Couple Exemplifies a Lifetime of Faithful Giving School of Business donors C. Jackson “Jack” Pfeffer Jr., BSBA ‘69, and Maryanne Lange-Pfeffer learned the importance of giving from their parents. As the couple raised their own family and honed their careers, they never forgot the impact that regular giving has upon the recipients and the giver. In 2020, the Pfeffers structured their financial giving to SIUE to establish the C. Jackson & Maryanne Pfeffer Student Excellence Endowment, which supports the School of Business and its students in myriad ways. Additionally, they sent immediate funds for technology curriculum needed when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. “SIUE means a great deal to me,” Pfeffer said. “The School of Business helped me earn my undergraduate degree and really steered my rudder on a course toward a rewarding career. Giving back makes sense.”
Fundraising Initiative Support the Online Impact Campaign The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all facets of life, including higher education. As the School of Business continues to educate students through online and hybrid courses in response to the pandemic, we are working to create a robust offering of digital support tools to prepare our students for success in the job market. We believe these platforms, including peer-to-peer tutoring, presentation skills feedback and virtual career events, are needed to keep the School at the forefront of business education. Our goal is to raise $80,000 to invest in these dynamic programs.

SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE
New Advanced Care Clinic Advances Education and Patient Care The Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (SIU SDM) opened its state-of-the-art Advanced Care Clinic (ACC) in August 2021 to enhance the education of its students and the care it provides to the community. The innovative clinical space features an operating suite with two surgery operating rooms, enabling SIU SDM residents, faculty and staff to offer more comprehensive, predictable and safe treatment, particularly for children and patients with special dental care needs. The ACC also includes 16 patient care stations that are equipped to serve a comprehensive range of dental needs through existing, expanded and new postdoctoral programs at SIU SDM. “This clinic represents a major push in the advancement of our postdoctoral training programs,” said SIU SDM Dean Bruce Rotter, DMD, MS. “The building also provides improved facilities for our students. But the foremost reason for the existence of this facility lies in the operating arena. In past years, it has been difficult, if not impossible, to provide appropriate access to treatment for the many children who had special treatment needs and required general anesthesia for their care. This facility will allow our faculty, staff and graduate students to significantly increase the number of patients who will have access to this necessary healthcare.” The ACC was made possible by the generous financial support of Delta Dental of Illinois and the Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation.

Fundraising Initiative Annual Scholarships Support Deserving Students The SIU SDM continued its annual tradition of honoring exceptional students with scholarships to enhance their learning opportunities. This year, four students received Dean’s Scholarship awards of $7,500 each, while two students were awarded the Dr. Larry Lowe Memorial Scholarship of $2,500 each. “We are extremely pleased to be able to award both the Dean’s Scholarship awards and the Dr. Larry Lowe Memorial Scholarship awards to these deserving students,” said SIU SDM Dean Bruce Rotter, DMD, MS. “In fact, the Dean’s Scholarship awards were increased in value this year thanks to one of our donors. As there are no University funds attached to any of these scholarships, we are continually grateful to our generous donors for making these scholarships possible.” The Dean’s Scholarship was created with the goal of rewarding academic merit, assisting with financial need and increasing student diversity at the SIU SDM. Sherry Baker established the annual Dr. Larry Lowe Memorial Scholarship in memory of her late husband, an SIU SDM Class of 1977 alumnus.

“I have always been passionate about dentistry and teaching. My long-term goal is to work as a faculty member in a dental school where I can utilize my knowledge and skills to help future dentists. This award money will be helpful in lessening my financial burden, as my family recently moved to the U.S., and will allow me to focus on my studies.”

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION, HEALTH AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR
Scholarships Increase in Response to Pandemic
Donor Establishes Technology Endowment
In light of COVID-19 economic fallout, School of Education, Health and Human Behavior (SEHHB) Dean Robin Hughes, PhD, along with the associate and assistant deans, led the charge to increase the number of scholarship awards given to students in the spring of 2021. More than $26,000 in scholarships were given to over 70 students, which translates to the highest dollar amount and most awards in the SEHHB’s recent history.
When an anonymous donor learned SIUE East St. Louis Charter High School students were struggling with internet connectivity issues during at-home learning caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the donor generously established a sizable endowment to support the students’ technology needs. At a kickoff event for the second semester of the 2020-21 school year, parents were brought to tears when their children received new Chromebooks with embedded wireless internet hotspots.

Despite all the challenges, the SIUE Foundation has continued its important work of supporting the University community. I want to thank the Foundation Board members for all they continue to do to support and maintain our University. We could not do this without you! I would also like to congratulate the Advancement team for their remarkable work engaging and helping to facilitate donations to the University. I want to thank you, our donors, for your generous contributions to the University. I encourage you to continue giving back. We all need to work to ensure SIUE remains a place where students receive a world-class education by providing scholarships, fellowships, financial literacy skills and access to the everyday essentials of life. Lastly, I would like to say “farewell” to retiring Chancellor Randy Pembrook. His vision for the campus and his robust work in the community have indeed helped “to shape a changing world.” Very Sincerely Yours, David Hopkins, ’82, ’89 President, SIUE Foundation Board of Directors Proud SIUE Donor
In Memory of Bev George, ’75, ’79 The SIUE community is mourning the loss of Bev George, who passed away July 10. A member of the SIUE Alumni Hall of Fame and former president of both the Alumni Association Board and the Foundation Board, her commitment to SIUE over the years was second to none. We will miss her entrepreneurial spirit, intelligent leadership and passion for life.

Establishing an Endowment An endowment fund is a gift that lasts in perpetuity and provides support continually to the University in the area(s) of interest to the donor. Endowed funds may support student scholarships, faculty, the general needs of SIUE or any School, College, unit or program within the University. Donors may fully fund an endowment with a one-time lump-sum gift, over a five-year period, or through a bequest or other deferred gift. The minimum gift to establish an endowment is $25,000. In addition to cash, endowed funds can be established through any gift vehicle recognized by the SIUE Foundation, including gifts of securities, property, planned gifts, or pooled gifts from a group of friends or family. The SIUE Foundation works with donors to develop guidelines for how their endowed funds are to be used, ensuring donor intent is honored and SIUE policies are followed.
For information on establishing an endowed fund
Contact any College or School development officer or the SIUE Foundation at 618-650-2345.
Ways to Give Outright Gifts Gifts of cash, securities, real property or personal property may be unrestricted or restricted to a specific school, department or program. Gifts can also be given to support new or existing scholarships, grants, student or faculty awards, special projects or endowments.
Planned Gifts Planned gifts come in many forms including bequests, life income gifts and other options such as trusts and life insurance.
Gifts-in-Kind Gifts-in-kind are non-cash donations of materials or other goods that support and serve the mission of the University. Such gifts may include equipment, software, printed materials, professional services and employee expertise. Gifts-in-kind are a valued way of supporting the University and may be tax-deductible according to IRS regulations. Annual Report on Giving | 22
