Career Preparation and Success Students enjoy opportunities to work alongside faculty who are conducting leading-edge research and creative activities. Faculty members from around the world enhance our campus with their diversity in thought, experiences and culture. Many faculty members have been nationally and internationally recognized. SIUE offers numerous resources to help students start their career, including assistance with internship placement and twice-annual career fairs. Nearly 90% of international students who graduate from SIUE and apply for the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program secure a temporary employment position with a company in the U.S. The SIUE campus is just 25 minutes from downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Students have access to internships and cooperative training opportunities at many technical, industrial and professional companies located in the metropolitan area. Intensive English Pathway (IEP) Program SIUE’s Intensive English Pathway (IEP) program is a great resource for international students who need to strengthen their English skills. Classes not only teach practical academic language skills, but also combine language with university skills, so that students become acclimated to American academic culture and complete the program ready for success!
How to Enroll To enroll, students must: • Complete an SIUE application and be conditionally approved to an SIUE undergraduate or graduate program • P rovide a TOEFL score of 45, IELTS score of 5.0 (no component below a 4.5), or a Duolingo score of 80 • Submit the required financial documents necessary to receive an I-20

Placement and Benefits Students are placed in one of three levels based on their verified English test score. • IEP students have the opportunity to become fluent in reading, writing, listening and speaking through interactive classes. • Students can earn degree course credits while studying pathway English courses. • S tudents get to participate in fun, cultural explorations and activities with the campus community. • Each level can be completed in one semester. • IEP students have full access to all facilities and services available to SIUE students. • S uccessful completion of the program satisfies SIUE’s English proficiency requirement to enter a full degree program without additional English testing.

Students who do not meet English proficiency requirements for an academic program may receive conditional admission to the university and enroll in the IEP. Successful completion of the IEP program meets SIUE’s English proficiency requirement without further testing.
