Pilobolus Dance Theater, where they performed, taught and choreographed all over the world for the better part of a decade. They left Pilobolus in early 2020 to focus on developing their unique brand of acrobatic partnering and visual storytelling. Shortly after, they debuted their first film “We Were Apart,” and over the next year, released multiple award winning dance films and music videos. Casey and Jake have choreographed and collaborated on a wide array of productions ranging from site specific immersive experiences to Hollywood films. When they’re not working, rock climbing, or juggling, Casey’s probably crafting mini-mythological creatures out of felt and Jake is most likely pretending to be a ninja.

Xfest: A Festival of Alternative Theater & Dance is a collaboration between Arts & Issues and the SIUE Department of Theater and Dance. This year marks the eleventh Xfest the first since 2019. COVID 19 led to a a two year hiatus. We’re excited to be back!
Tonight, we present Leggy Bones Physical Theater Company, which is comprised of two outstanding dancers. Casey B. Howes and Jacob Michael, once members of the Pilobolus Dance Theater, are now presenting their own work. We’re excited to have them as part of our series.
Please join me in expressing gratitude to Chuck Harper, Professor of Acting, Directing and Experimental Performance and Chair of the Department of Theater and Dance, who serves as the Xfest Artistic Director and curates the festival. Xfest is one of the only university festivals of its kind. It makes the SIUE Department of Theatre and Dance distinctive among other liberal arts theatre and dance programs across the Icountry.hopeyou
Since its beginning in 2010, Xfest has brought 32 theater and dance companies from around the country to the SIUE campus. These guest artists have presented 46 productions and performed an estimated 86 workshops. This year, our four Xfest companies performed an additional 15 master classes.
