The Carnegie Commission on Higher Education recently upgraded SIUE to the newly created doctoral/professional universities category. SIUE ranks third in research expenditures in this category, according to the National Science Foundation.

SIUE debuted among the top 30% of doctoral institutions in Washington Monthly’s 2019 National University Rankings. Previously, the University was ranked among the top 100 master’s granting institutions in the nation for nine consecutive years. SIUE is first for research expenditures among all Emerging Research Institutions in the Midwest by the National Science Foundation. For the sixth consecutive year, SIUE has received the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. The Princeton Review lists the SIUE School of Business as one of the top business schools in the U.S.

Career Preparation and Success Students enjoy opportunities to work alongside faculty who are conducting leading-edge research and creative activities. Faculty members from around the world enhance our campus with their diversity in thought, experiences and culture. Many faculty members have been nationally and internationally recognized. SIUE offers numerous resources to help students start their career, including assistance with internship placement and twice-annual career fairs. Nearly 90 percent of international students who graduate from SIUE and apply for the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program secure a temporary employment position with a company in the U.S. The SIUE campus is just 25 minutes from downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Students have access to internships and cooperative training opportunities at many technical, industrial and professional companies located in the metropolitan area. SIUE international students have gone on to jobs with IBM, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Emerson, Dell, Nestlé Purina, Bayer, Intel and Microsoft.

Tuition and fees are based on 2019-2020 rates and an estimated enrollment of 12 credits per semester for undergraduate international students and 9 credits per semester for graduate international students.

Geographic Enhancement Opportunity (GEO) Award: All academically eligible new students will receive a special GEO tuition rate. GEO awardees seeking a bachelor’s degree save a minimum of $9,488 per year and those seeking a master’s degree save a minimum of $7,951 per year.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 79 or higher iBT International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5 or higher

Meridian Undergraduate Scholarship: Highly competitive; full tuition, fees, room and board. Apply by December 1. Competitive Graduate Award: Tuition waiver and monthly stipend. Apply by January 15. Graduate Scholar Award: Tuition waiver. Apply by March 1. Graduate Assistantships: Tuition waiver and monthly stipend. Student works up to 20 hours per week in an academic, service or research unit. Separate application required. On-campus Employment: Students can apply for on-campus jobs and work up to 20 hours per week.
