Teacher Licensure Programs •

Early Childhood – Licensed to teach Birth through grade 2

Elementary – Licensed to teach grades 1-6

Middle Level endorsements

Special Education - Licensed to teach Pre-K to grade 12

Secondary Education – licensed to teach grades 9-12 (some exceptions), changes to grade levels coming from the state

Teacher Licensure Programs •

CIED 100 taken in freshman year. (Not taken by Early Childhood, Secondary Education or Special Education.)

Set up a file in SEHHB’s Student Services office after first semester of college work.

Declare the major after meeting pre-major requirements.

Applications for cohort programs are due in March of the preceding Fall start for Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education and Secondary Education. This application is for the final two years of the program and is separate from declaring your major.

Only courses graded C or higher will count towards licensure requirements (includes major, specified general education courses and professional education coursework).

Completing a teacher education program at SIUE will lead to licensure in the State of Illinois, which is transferrable to other states.

Secondary Education (Grades 9-12)

• Degree earned in major field of study. • Students should contact the College of Arts and Sciences for advising and registration for their major field of study. • Students will work with an Education Advisor before beginning the professional education sequence. Springboard to Success

Take SPPA 101 in your freshman year if it fits. You must take this course before you may be admitted to the major.

Career options available for students with a Bachelor's degree include speech aide, speech assistant, or speech implementer.

Seniors begin practicum experience in SIUE’s Speech-LanguageHearing Center.

Psychologists study the human mind and human behavior and is one of the most popular undergraduate majors at SIUE and across the country.

Three graduate programs of study available: • Clinical Psychology • Clinical Child and School • Industrial/Organizational Psychology

Prepares students for the testing required in order to become Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES)

Graduates may work in a variety of community health careers

Provides an excellent foundation for Master of Public Health or nursing programs

Exercise Science •

Bachelor of Science

Graduates may work in a variety of professional settings: • Community recreational agencies • Health-related clinics and hospitals • Corporate and sport industries

Provides an excellent foundation for graduate school in: • Occupational therapy • Physical therapy • Other fields related to exercise science

Nutrition • Study of foods and nutrients and their effect on the health of individuals • Students can pursue careers in clinical, community and public health, consulting-private practice, food/nutrition business industry, food service, management, research and education, sports and wellness nutrition, and in jobs not requiring Registered Dietitian (RD) certification • Preparation for Master’s Degree to become a Registered Dietician • Employment of nutritionists is expected to increase 20% from 2010 to 2020 - faster than average for all occupations nationally (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
