Florence is located on the central Oregon coast along U.S. Highway 101, a National Scenic Byway along one of America’s most beautiful and dramatic coastlines. Travel along this route is a vacation unto itself. The town is also accessible via Highway 126 from Eugene. This route runs from the Willamette Valley and then along the Siuslaw River, which flows through coastal mountains to Florence, the ocean and the magnificent Pacific Coast Scenic Byway. apleton is just 14 miles east of Florence on Highway 126. With its own post office, branch of the Siuslaw Public Library and school district, it makes a hub for the Upriver community of the Siuslaw region. Mapleton is a safe area and it is a great location for raising children and giving them the freedom that they need to grow and play. With it's quiet streets, graceful high tree canopy and wide sidewalks, this vicinity will bring to mind memories of childhood and a simpler time. Waterways such as the Siuslaw River and Sweet Creek connect the three unincorporated communities of Deadwood, Swisshome and Mapleton. With so much water, there are more than 100 unnamed waterfalls, and locals and tourists alike enjoy exploring and hiking in the area.

• Deadwood is the home of Alpha Farm, an intentional community established in 1971. • The Deadwood Creek Bridge and the Wildcat Creek Bridge near Swisshome are two covered bridges that are on the National Register of Historic Places. • Mapleton was likely named by Julia Ann “Grandma” Bean for the abundance of Bigleaf Maple trees in the area. Pioneers of 1852, the Beans moved to the Mapleton area in 1886 and the town was named shortly thereafter. • Oregon Route 36 is an Oregon state highway that runs between Mapleton in the Oregon Coast Range and Junction City in the Willamette Valley. The entire route of the highway is located within Lane County.

TRAVEL & transportation Within the Florence area, a number of transportation services are available to make travel easy and convenient for residents and visitors alike. From the Florence Municipal Airport to the Rhody Express to local taxis, getting around town is a breeze. Also, only an hour’s drive from Florence is the metro area of Eugene, which offers a major airport, public bus service and train service for residents. FLORENCE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT

Near the center of town, Florence Municipal Airport handles light twin-engine and jet aircraft up to 12,500 pounds and features a 3,000-foot paved and lighted runway as well as self-serve fuel, which is available 24 hours a day. The facility, off Kingwood Street at 2001 Airport Way, includes 23 hangars that can accommodate 34 aircrafts and one helicopter. There is room for additional hangars on the field, and nearby are light industrialzoned lots available for lease. A courtesy car and bicycles are available, and the comfortable pilot lounge offers free Wi-Fi, hot coffee, TV and flight planning aides. The lounge is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, except on holidays. Aero Legends offers unique flight

RHODY EXPRESS

Rhody Express, a community transit service, operates Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and provides transportation around Florence for a small fee. Fares are $1 for

one way or $2 for all day. Up to 16 passengers can ride the bus at any one time. The vehicle is wheelchair accessible and includes space for bicycles. Rhody Express runs along two routes, first the South Loop (from Grocery Outlet to Old Town to Three Rivers Casino Resort) and then the North Loop (from Grocery Outlet to Fred Meyer). Passengers may board the bus at any safe location along each route. The bus operates on most days, except for New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Each weekday, the Friends of Florence van offers a free shuttle service for cancer patients receiving radiation treatments from health centers in the Willamette Valley, driving from Florence to Eugene and Springfield. For more than 30 years, the van has transported nearly 30,000 patients to their radiation treatments at the Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Re-search Center in Eugene and Oregon Urology Institute in Springfield. The volunteer-driven van, which relies on individual contributions and Van Fans fundraisers to cover costs of gas and upkeep, stops for patients in Florence, Mapleton, Walton, Noti and Veneta. A medical assistant will travel to your home and video

conference back to our clinic to discuss health concerns with the provider in office. The mobile visit will be a telemedicine visit â&#x20AC;&#x201C; the goal is to reach patients that may be home bound or in rural settings where a provider can evaluate over video

conference basic health status. The mobile unit can perform lab, injections and vitals, the provider in the office can order mail order medications, immunizations and specialty referrals.
