elcome to The Power of the Chamber! A thriving community depends on a strong economic foundation. The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce is all about developing a sustainable and healthy business environment. Creating jobs for our parents, students and individuals to support independence and opportunity. We have a vision — it’s a vision that supports education, skilled trades, careers and entrepreneurship. It’s a vision where our community has abundant resources to not only support ourselves but to have enough to give a helping hand up to those in need.
“The heart of the chamber is to champion a strong and healthy community. We’re truly a membership organization of hard-working volunteers coming together to bring economic development and stability to the Florence area. We’re catalysts for business growth, building connections and leveraging resources; we’re conveners, convening leaders and influencers; and we’re champions for a stronger community.” — Bettina Hannigan, Executive Director of the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce Your chamber wears two hats: Economic Development and Tourism Marketing. It’s been a conundrum the last couple months actually deterring tourists for both our safety and our visitors. As we’re looking to slowly reopen under the Governor’s plan, there is a lot of uncertainty. Our imaginations get busy imagining what or how this will roll out. Some of these imaginations are creative ideas about how to embrace change and adapt to a new and different world. These are the ones to keep! Flexibility is the new stability. This special tabloid is a celebration of our local businesses and stakeholders. Celebrating the brav-
ery and burdens carried by our heroic employers, risk takers, leaders and community organizations. The businesses you’ll find in the following pages have made an exceptional investment in your chamber. The Chamber can’t do chamber business without the support of the membership. Dues, sponsorships and support; it’s what keeps us open for business. I am overwhelmed with heartfelt gratitude for the many testimonials we received. The power of the chamber is real. As your executive director, I’ve been filtering through an onslaught of information to distill out what is relevant and reasonable for our community. Your chamber has been
a voice for the Coast (think bull horn!), leveraging communications with leaders and influencers, sharing our needs and challenges. We’re focusing on resources, relationships, advocacy and information to feed positive imaginations to survive, thrive, adapt, change, embrace, pivot, innovate and keep on keeping on! Your heart has a chamber and your chamber has a heart. The power of the chamber is our pulse on business, our beating supply of support and resources and the thumping of opportunity knocking. From my heart to yours, thank you. — Bettina Hannigan

Our past and current publishers have also had a board seat on the Chamber Board for many years. In current times, as business owners and managers, we have to see value in everything that we do. From my perspective, the Chamber provides substantial value for the investment. mprovements to the historic Kyle Building in downtown Florence are now complete. The work began in June 2019 and wrapped in April 2020. The project was funded in part by a matching Oregon Main Street Revitalization grant from the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office, Oregon Heritage. As an Exploring Downtown member of the Oregon Main Street Network, the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce submitted the application in collaboration with Kyle Building owners Ron Hogeland and Joann and
Stuart Henderson. Completed rehabilitation work included installation of a new roof and gutters, structural and flooring repairs, plumbing updates, and exterior painting of the 119-year-old building. The Kyle Building was accepted into the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. feel that Three Rivers Casino Resort’s partnership with the Chamber brings many opportunities throughout the year to work together to bring tourism to our area which helps every business in Florence. Its truly a win-win-win. We really enjoy working with the awesome Chamber and staff whether its ribbon cutting for opening of a new business in town or sponsoring a Noon Forum or Chamber After Hours. The folks are great and professional. I feel it’s our duty to support the Chamber and help the surrounding area in which we live. The Casino sponsors many Chamber events throughout the year that, quite frankly, make a difference in our community. We
would not have these opportunities if not our Chamber partnership. We receive weekly updates from the Chamber which help us stay connected when we can all not be together. Simply working with the Chamber on events and opportunities connects us with other businesses in town. When we need help, the Chamber is there with answers or direction, from marketing and advertising to motivation. They help us in many ways most don’t know about. — Richard Colton, Three Rivers Casino Resort

hroughout the COVID-19 pandemic and regular news events, Coastal Chambers are conveners of resources for their communities. In Spring 2020, Florence Area Chamber of Commerce gathered U.S. and State Representatives in a Coastal Corral to update and share information to the business communities along the coast. “As we ‘Coasties’ know, coastal communities face different challenges than other rural areas and vastly different challenges than larger metro areas, said Executive Director Bettina Hannigan. “Many coastal communities rely heavily on tourism as their primary industry. feel that Three Rivers Casino Resort’s partnership with the Chamber brings many opportunities throughout the year to work together to bring tourism to our area which helps every business in Florence.
Simply working with the Chamber on events and opportunities connects us with other businesses in town. elcome to The Power of the Chamber!
